Kiwi golf star Lydia Ko has had to produce a miraculous shot from the water to stay in contention during the LPGA Women's World Championship at Singapore.
Ko pulled off an incredible par save during her first round of the HSBC Women's World Championship after getting into some trouble on the fifth hole.
"I think at the end of the day I play my best when I'm enjoying my time out there and being a little bit more relaxed. But when you get in a good rhythm of things, I think sometimes some putts that might have lipped-out, lips-in. 'She's too good': Lydia Ko hits incredible shot from the water
It's going to be difficult but I've just got to focus on my game, former world No.1 says.
“For me when I won Gainbridge, I hit a shot that I think most of the time it would have gone out of bounds, but I got a really lucky kick off the tree and then I was in bounds and I was able to save par from there. But when you get in a good rhythm of things, I think sometimes some putts that might have lipped-out, lips-in,’’ the former world No.1 told LPGA media. “I’ve been putting myself in contention a lot and I think when you start doing that more often, you just get a little bit more confidence,” said Ko, who became the youngest golfer at 17 years, nine months and nine days in either gender to be ranked No.1 in professional golf.

"I think at the end of the day I play my best when I'm enjoying my time out there and being a little bit more relaxed. But when you get in a good rhythm of things, I think sometimes some putts that might have lipped-out, lips-in. The shot set up Ko for an easy par, after narrowly missing out on birdie.
Kiwi champion got her feet wet but it didn't stall her momentum as she carded a three-under 69 to be among the leaders in Singapore.
It left her in a 14-way tie for fifth, two shots off the leader Patty Tavatanakit. She then made the up and down for par to remain even, after a birdie and bogey in her first four holes. For her third shot on the 545m par-five, Ko had to remove her shoes and stand in near knee-deep water, but safely found the fairway.
Patty Tavatanakit fired a bogey-free 67 and holds a one-shot lead over Inbee Park, A Lim Kim and Danielle Kang.
“The course is playing really good for me. But, she would go on to drain a 16-footer for birdie on No. 18 to cap a round of 69. “I haven’t been in this kind of heat in a while.” “I think this golf course really suits me. And unfortunately, I think I just kind of checked out from golf for a little bit because I was more focused on trying to stay cool,” she said. That gives her nine straight rounds of being either first or second on the leaderboard.
Patty Tavatanakit shot a 5-under 67 on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the HSBC Women's World Championship.
