Emma Raducanu played some of her best tennis since the US Open to defeat Caroline Garcia at Indian Wells, while Andy Murray recorded his 700th ATP tour win.

The victory marks Raducanu’s first WTA 1000 win and she has scuppered a run of five losses in six matches. She immediately made the most of her high billing, breaking Garcia’s serve in the opening game. A reflection of the hype that still surrounds Raducanu came even before she played a single point.

Andy Murray twice fought back from behind against Taro Daniel to earn his 700th career match at the 2022 BNP Paribas Open.

The Briton dug in to start the second, picking up his aggression and moving Daniel from sideline to sideline. Murray improves to 28-13 at Indian Wells, though he has never won the event. Murray nearly edged in front at the start of the match, creating two early break points for 2-1 in a game that began with the Japanese whiffing on an overhead. Another missed overhead would later help Murray break in the final game of the match. In a match that featured long rallies between two steady players, Murray outmaneuvered his opponent down the stretch. Knowing that Daniel beat Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells in 2018, he was expecting a tough match in the desert.

Despite a couple of disappointing results recently, Berrettini will be the firm favorite to win this contest. He ended his losing streak at the Open 13 Provence by defeating Zizou Bergs in the first round but lost to Aslan Karatsev in his next match in the tournament. Berrettini's massive forehand might be too much for Rune to handle. It was also his first win at the Masters 1000 level. By doing so, however, he became the first male player born in the 1990s to reach at least the quarterfinals of all four Majors. At the Indian Wells Masters, he secured his spot in the main draw after winning a couple of qualifying matches.
