From March 15 to 21, people who were not fully vaccinated accounted for 16 per cent of cases and from March 8 to 21, they accounted for 26.3 per cent of hospitalizations, according to the province. B.C. COVID-19 hospitalizations rise for first time in six weeks (The Record (New Westminster))

COVID19 hospitalizations rose to 258, from 254 yesterday in first increase in more than six weeks. Of those, 49 are in ICUs. One death. No new outbreaks.

Glacier Media's calculation therefore is that more than 90.5 per cent of B.C.'s total population has had at least one dose of vaccine, and more than 86.8 per cent of the province's total population has had two doses. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, however, has told vaccinated people with mild symptoms to not get tested so as to free up tests for those who are more vulnerable. The government did not reveal any demographic information about that person. Nearly 53 per cent have had their third, or booster doses. In each of the 30 data updates since Feb. 7, when B.C. had 987 COVID-19 patients in hospitals, there has been a decline in the number of those serious infections. The number of COVID-19 patients in B.C. hospitals has risen by four, to 258, in what is the first increase in a government data update since Feb. 7.

Below is just a snapshot of local COVID-19 data. As of February 16, our COVID-19 Status Update changed in frequency and is now published Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays except holidays. If you’ve tested positive with an at-home test, there is no need to confirm the result with a PCR test. If you are symptomatic and cannot obtain a test or testing appointment, treat your symptoms as COVID-19 and isolate. This means that the amount of virus in our wastewater (sewage) generally reflects the level of transmission in our community. Visit FindACovidTest.org for online retailers. If you are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19, don’t hesitate and get tested as soon as possible. (open Mondays, 10am to 4pm) (open Fridays, 10am to 4pm) Alternatively, are you a close contact of someone who is COVID positive? This new dashboard shows the average amount of virus (SARs-CoV-2 gene copies per milliliter) in five wastewater collection sites across Marin. At each site, two samples are collected up to three times per week. The presentation reviews health, education, economic and social factors.

About 60% of PCR-positive COVID-19 cases in Alberta are Omicron ... (Globalnews.ca)

Alberta's chief medical officer of health said Wednesday that the Omicron subvariant BA.2 is now the dominant COVID-19 strain in the province.

“We continue to see the impact is less than it has been in the past,” he said. “At this time, there has been no timeline set for expanding fourth doses to the general public,” Hinshaw wrote online. Hinshaw said it’s hard to say how many active COVID-19 cases there are in the province since eligibility for PCR tests was restricted. Now, he said, there are just 11. Hinshaw said Wednesday that the question of fourth vaccine dose eligibility has been brought to the Alberta advisory committee on several occasions and, at this time, it’s aligning with the National Advisory Committee on Immunization and only recommending fourth doses for those with significant immunocompromising conditions. When that change took place Dec. 23, 2021, she estimated it would be about 10 times the number of positive cases identified by the labs. Wednesday’s news conference marked the first weekly COVID-19 update. In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Hinshaw addressed the question of fourth COVID-19 vaccine doses in Alberta. Alberta Health Minister Jason Copping said there are signs of hope, but that COVID-19 is still here and the health system is still under significant strain. “This infection is still a significant threat to many of us, our family and our friends,” Hinshaw said. “We should expect to see transmission trending upwards in the coming weeks.” “As of March 21, approximately 60 per cent of positive cases are BA.2, so it is now the dominant strain of Omicron in the province,” Dr. Deena Hinshaw explained.
