At the beginning of the NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers were locks for the playoffs. Injuries had taken their toll the year before but this time around, ...
“The biggest thing for me when you watch this team, they really don’t look like they’re having a lot of fun. Those teams at the top of the West are just significantly better in every facet. “The Lakers—including James, who lobbied for the team to trade for Westbrook—overreacted to their underwhelming season. “Why continue to play him to get into the play-in tournament to actually lose in the first round. If he can physically take the court, he takes the court. Not if he is fit to go out and play.
Zach Harper of The Athletic provided his perspective on why the Lakers are an irrelevant team after their latest loss.
LA built a 23-point half time lead in New Orleans on Sunday only to let the game slip away in the fourth quarter to secure another loss. The Lakers are a mediocre team that's 12 games under .500 with their postseason hopes on life support. The Lakers 116-108 loss in New Orleans is just another piece of the ugly mosaic LA has been hard at work constructing this year.
Anthony Davis has been upgraded to doubtful for the Lakers road game in Dallas. LeBron is was given the same designation after injuring his ankle on Sunday.
LA has an exceedingly difficult remaining schedule and will absolutely need LeBron, if not Davis too, on the court to wrap up a postseason spot. The news on LeBron James was not as encouraging. Anthony Davis is one step closer to returning to the court for the Lakers. According to multiple reports, Davis went through a full practice on Monday and has been upgraded from "Out" to "Doubtful" for the Lakers Tuesday game in Dallas. ESPN's Dave McMenamin previously reported that Davis is likely to return the first week of April.
Anthony Davis is readying for a return, going through a full live practice Monday for the first time since suffering a mid-foot sprain last month, ...
And we're going to fight like hell tomorrow night," Vogel said. "It's been that type of year," Vogel said. "We fought like hell in that game.
LOS ANGELES LAKERS (31-43) at MAVERICKS (46-29). Time: 6:30 p.m., Tuesday. Place: American Airlines Center, Dallas. TV: TNT. Radio: The Eagle 97.1 FM; ...
They need only go 4-3 in the last 12 days of the season to reach 50 wins . . . After tonight, there are only two home games remaining in the regular season – April 8 against Portland and April 10 against San Antonio. They have a four-game road trip starting Wednesday in Cleveland, which will represent the last back-to-back situation of the season . . . These teams meet only three times this season. But the Mavericks do own the tiebreaker on Golden State, so there is hope . . . They haven’t had a 50-win season since 2014-15 (50-32) and before that you have to go back to the championship season of 2010-11 (57-25), which was the last of 11 50-win seasons in a row. The Lakers came to Dallas on Dec. 15 and took a 107-104 victory in overtime at AAC. Luka Dončić did not play in that game . . . On March 1, the Mavericks won at LA 109-104 . . . Spencer Dinwiddie is working on a streak of 15 consecutive games played with double-figure scoring. He’s been out since late February, but went through the Lakers’ practice on Monday in Dallas and has been upgraded to doubtful . . . Whether Davis or James play, the Lakers still have three other likely future hall of famers that the Mavericks will have to deal with: Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and Russell Westbrook. Westbrook is averaging 18.2 points per game, his lowest number since 2010-11, his second season in the league. He also was inactive one game and figures to be inactive Wednesday in Cleveland (or against the Lakers) since he hasn’t played both ends of a back-to-back set yet this season after knee surgery last year. About the Mavericks: They are sole owners of the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference after beating Utah on Sunday, but with seven games left, moving up to catch No. 3 Golden State is going to be difficult as the Mavericks are two games behind. They were a game up on 11th-place San Antonio before the Spurs’ Monday night game in Houston. The Lakers have virtually no chance of moving any higher than ninth in the West, meaning they will have to win twice in the play-in tournament to make the eight-team playoff field in the West . . . They are coming off a disastrous 116-108 loss at New Orleans in which they were up by 20 points at halftime and were outscored 67-39 in the second half. LeBron James had 39 points, but said after the game he had “no idea how I finished the game, to be honest.” James has been listed as doubtful for Tuesday’s game . . . The good news for the Lakers is that they could be getting 6-10 Anthony Davis back soon from a mid-foot injury. Westbrook is playing for his fourth team in the last four seasons (Oklahoma City, Houston, Washington were the others) . . . Malik Monk was drafted 11th in 2017, the year the Mavericks took Dennis Smith Jr. It’s worth noting that Monk’s scoring average has risen every year in the league to 13.2 points this season (on 38.7 percent 3-point shooting). About the Lakers: They are in a world of trouble just trying to make the play-in tournament. He’s averaged 18.9 points and 4.2 assists in that run. With eight games remaining, they are in 10th place in the Western Conference, the final seed that gets into the tournament.
The Los Angeles Lakers continue to hobble toward the finish line. Nursing a "horrible" ankle injury, superstar LeBron James is listed as doubtful for ...
the Lakers this season, with all seven of his points coming in the encounter on March 1. "We did what we had to do (Sunday), and that was protect home. "Our next opponent is the Lakers, and that's all we're focused on. That limited him to playing on the perimeter. "But I didn't want to come out of the game because I understood (the importance). I mean, I just wanted to win the game. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com
The New Orleans Pelicans overcame a 20-point halftime deficit to stun the Los Angeles Lakers and move ahead of them in the standings.
The Pelicans have been building their identity around their defense this season, and it was the reason they were able to come back last night. Herbert Jones led the way with six steals and it was his 4th-quarter defense on LeBron that was the difference in the game, as he made it tough for LBJ to even catch the ball. There were far too many Lakers’ jerseys in the first few rows and it was a thing of beauty to watch them stand there stunned at the end of the game.
The Lakers led New Orleans by 20 points at halftime but lost the game and fell to 10th place in the Western Conference standings, one game ahead of the ...
“We weren’t able to get it done.” The Lakers treated Sunday’s game like it was a big one, and for most of the first half, they dominated. “They weren’t doing anything special defensively,” Westbrook said. “It’s pretty nasty.” And that’s a basketball team, despite having four of the NBA’s best 75 players ever, that’s barely clinging to the 10th-best record in its conference. That “feels like s—.”
For the Lakers (31-43), it was a tale of two halves Sunday night in New Orleans. The team looked on the verge of picking up a key victory for their playoff ...
The good news: LeBron James capped off his energetic start with 39 points on the night to go along with nine rebounds and five assists. Poor shooting and a complete breakdown in their gameplay proved to be the deciding factor for the Lakers who finished the final quarter with 14 points scored on 6-of-21 from the field. On his sixth field goal of the night, James became the second player in NBA history to score 37,000 career points and is the youngest player to reach every round number milestone in points (now has 37,024 points and counting). Additionally, with his 13th made FG, LeBron passed Karl Malone for second on the NBA’s all-time field goals made list (now has 13,530 FGM and counting).
Bleacher Reports Jake Fischer says the Lakers have absolutely no plans to explore trading Anthony Davis this summer.
I mean the Lakers went all in on pairing Anthony Davis with the Bron for as long as that pairing could stand and I’d be shocked if it came to a close this offseason." That just hasn't been a common occurrence this year. Davis' lack of availability this year, coupled with LA's futility, had previously generated chatter from nationally televised talking heads that the Lakers should think about trading AD this summer.
