“Do we love you? “I’m so glad I changed my mind and did this because it’s been the best sensation.” “This show means the world to me, I absolutely love it,” he says. “We wanted to bring a little Mardi Gras to the dancefloor,” Courtney says after their routine. “I love the fact that you are such a pro,” Sonia Kruger says after the clumsy ending. Ricki-Lee and Jarryd Byrne are dancing to The Contours’ Do You Love Me (Now That I Can Dance) and it involves a lot of different dance styles. “You guys came out on the floor and you gave it so much, you never stop.” “I wanted to do this again so I could re-learn to dance, so I can dance with my daughters,” he adds. There’s even a cool bit where he runs over to a drum kit and starts bashing out a beat before finishing the routine with a defiant “Yeahhhhh!!!!” “Turns out behind the scenes you’ve been watching me in the morning and bringing it into a performance like that.” The last part sees the duo literally dancing in the rain - well, fake rain - prompting Todd McKenney to say: “Well, that routine’s left me ... clammy under the arms.” David and dance partner Alex Vladimirov are dancing to a combination of Rihanna’s Umbrella and Gene Kelly’s Singin’ In The Rain - a bit classic, a bit hip-hop!

Meet Dancing with the Stars' celebrity contestants for 2022 (The Spinoff)

A broadcaster, a boxer, a reality TV star and a comedian. Who will grapevine straight into our hearts?

Prediction: It’s just a quickstep and a hip-hop from Young New Zealander of the Year to Young New Zealand Dancer of the Year, right? Prediction: I can’t forget Sonia’s terrifying performance as an enraged French hairdresser in Netflix’s The Royal Treatment, and now I’m too scared to rank her any lower. Prediction: Kerre knows how to dance around dodgy talkback opinions, and she’ll attract a shedload of votes from the loyal Newstalk ZB and Women’s Weekly crowd. Today, Three announced the names of the nine courageous celebrities who will compete in the DWTS NZ ballroom of dreams. Sadly, Rhys has worked for DWTS’s bitter enemy Seven Sharp, and in this cutthroat world of sequins and spray tans, this can only lead to disaster. In honour of DWTS NZ’s return, we dedicated several minutes to evaluating the dance potential of these famous people.

As for coping with the judges' criticism, Thornton says her work has exposed her to so much already, she thinks she can handle it. The second funny man, Mathewson, is paired with dancer Phoebe Robb and a week into rehearsals he admits to being unfit but likes how competitive his partner is. Funny man Matthewson says it's about time boys dance with boys on the show, and he can't believe it's never been done before. Friends and past contestants Beatrice Faumuina and Rachel Hunter have told her it will be an amazing, uplifting experience. When Act swapped out their drag act and danced as Shane Jenek with Keefe doing the foxtrot, it lit up imaginations across the Tasman and saw the pairing take home second place.

“And I think that’s a really important lesson to learn, and I kind of wanted to share that with the audience, but also with my daughters.” “It really kind of overwhelms me it was really lovely to not just kind of relive the moment of when I was struggling but also to celebrate how far I’ve come.” “The song, I genuinely listened to it a lot in that period when I was struggling and I found it was wonderfully motivating and uplifting, so the moment we played that song in the dance studio it brought all those emotions back and there were a few tears shed,” he said. “It’s weird, it’s just a dance, but I felt like I did a fair bit of healing with that one.” “The show has taught me how to talk normally – I’ve only talked in gags, so just kind of talking about real things and painful things and hurtful things and things that get you through dark periods, it was a really lovely thing to learn how to do,” he said. The TV presenter says the process of DWTS taught him how to talk “normally” and be his most authentic self after years of feeling like a “pretender”.
