Jonjo Shelvey and Fabian Schar return to the Newcastle squad, but there's no place in the starting XI for Bruno Guimaraes after a tiring international break. Bentancur has time on his left, edge of the area, it deflects high for a corner. Allan Saint-Maximin involved already, having won a free kick on the left that came to nothing. Saint-Maximin is back in the action and the ball comes to him straight away. It could feel chilly by the time kick off comes around. Another period of Spurs pressure sees a Kane shot hooked wide of the post inside a crowded penalty area. 15th min: It's very much one way traffic, with Spurs seeing the lion's share of possession so far. Schar stands of the ball and powers it through the wall. It's scrappy in the Spurs box as they don't get it away and Willock looks to have wriggled through on goal briefly, but Romero is across to block the midfielder's shot. Kane manages to hold it up and Spurs get going. Two away losses in quick succession are an ominous sign ahead of their trip to London, now sitting nine points above the drop. This time Emerson Royal came inside, and Kulusevski is given space to cross.

FPL Saturday review: Managers move for Maddison (Fantasy)

In-form Leicester star is among most-bought players as he has 10 matches in final seven Gameweeks.

Four of Brentford’s final seven matches score only two in the FDR, giving their budget-friendly players the chance to reward managers over the run-in. Ivan Toney (£6.7m) has been their top performer in that run, his assist on Saturday taking his tally to 36 points in the last four Gameweeks. Five of their final eight matches score only two in the FDR, with De Bruyne shaping up to be a major player for Fantasy managers in the next few Gameweeks. De Bruyne has now claimed four of his top six scores this season in his last eight appearances, highlighting his form ahead of Man City’s kind run-in. Seven of those matches score only two in the Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR), pointing to more success for Maddison. The Leicester City playmaker supplied the assist for Kelechi Iheanacho’s (£7.0m) goal in a 1-1 draw at Manchester United.

Ten minutes into the second half and on came Rashford, off went McTominay, and United had a natural spearhead but, now, United undid themselves. If the Frenchman can often bemuse, there was only clarity regarding Maguire and the support offered the beleaguered defender from the United fans, after he endured boos on England duty. “We knew this morning Cristiano could not play and decided to start Paul Pogba,” said the interim manager. Rangnick wanted the last two and a half weeks since United’s previous action – being dumped out of the Champions League by Atlético Madrid - to be a “reset” for the term’s final nine games. In the end we are not happy with the result but the second half was OK.” The second half was better, we were struggling to find rhythm in the first half, possibly because of the international break.

City and Liverpool are locked in a thrilling shootout at the top of the English top flight, with just eight matches remaining of the season. But it was the visitors who took the lead in the 63rd minute when a United attack broke down and Maddison attacked down the left. Leicester continued to look the more dangerous side and had the ball in the net with 10 minutes to go when Maddison finished at the back post. But the goal was overturned for a foul by Iheanacho on Raphael Varane. United piled on the pressure late on but could not find a winner. Minutes later Leicester had a chance to take the lead but Iheanacho failed to control the ball on the edge of the area and ended up skewing his shot wide. United looked sharper in the early stages of the second half but midfielder Scott McTominay was lucky to stay on the pitch after a nasty-looking challenge on James Maddison.

Super City win at Burnley to return to Premier League summit (Manchester City FC)

Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table after a brief hiatus with a 2-0 victory at Burnley.

23 - Man City are the only side yet to drop a single point from a winning position in the Premier League this season, winning all 23 games in which they’ve led. The home side set up with a 4-5-1 formation in a bid to frustrate us. It's a busy week - first we'll think about Atletico Madrid and then after that we’ll think about Liverpool." "The goal after five minutes was important but we still had to play 85 more. The pitch was difficult because the grass was so high but we adapted. This is why we’ve fought for the last 10, 11 months. Our second was equally as impressive and Sterling was again the architect. The win means City go back to the top of the Premier League table after a brief period in second. City were playing with a swagger, enjoying long periods of keep-ball. In the 2nd half they pushed more, they went 4-4-2 and they were more aggressive. Burnley were struggling to cope. No side has ever gone through an entire Premier League campaign without dropping points when ahead before.

English Premier League weekend best bets (New York Post)

This season, it has scored 34 goals on 39.5 expected and a good chunk of that discrepancy has come at home. The duality with this play exciting me is that United’s attack has played very well at home while Leicester has struggled to defend on the road. Further, it hasn’t held a top-half opponent to fewer than two goals away from home this season. Given it notched 2.3 xG in the reverse fixture against Leeds, expect another strong performance from the Saints. Goals should come quite easily for the Peacocks, especially considering how bad Southampton’s defense has played away from home. As a result, I’m expecting goals in this fixture.

Only Manchester City have managed to produce that many in one game this season and they won that match 7-0 against Leeds. The problem is so obvious. Neal Maupay has shown in spurts what he can do but this performance was another reminder of where Brighton need to invest in the summer. One thing is for certain, and this has been said before, they need to find a striker that can be relied upon throughout the season. Liverpool's win over Watford was a case of job done and move on, as Jurgen Klopp's side laboured to a 2-0 victory over the relegation strugglers. Tuchel and Chelsea supporters hope that this loss to Brentford will ultimately act as a jolt to sharpen the side up for the big challenges ahead. That is a question you'd have answered with a resounding no a few months ago as Graham Potter's side looked certain for a top-10 finish. On Wednesday Real Madrid are in town for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final. That is followed by home league matches against Manchester United on April 19 and Everton on April 24 - both live on Sky Sports. First there is the manager, whose surprise switch to a back three caught out the world and European champions. Before kick-off, it seemed Brentford's Premier League survival was more likely to rest on a clash with Watford in a couple of weeks' time. No Premier League club needs the top flight quite like Everton (Football365.com)

Everton have published their company accounts for the 2020/21 season and they show why staying in the Premier League is so important to them.

The loss of Usmanov as a main sponsor shouldn’t affect the club too seriously in the short term. This would fall to a parachute payment of around £40m in the Championship, and while the club should have had relegation clauses written into their contracts, it has been reported that this may well not be the case. But all of this does press home the fact that Everton need to survive in the Premier League. Relegation would see the club’s TV (and prize money) income fall significantly. With that gone, the task for the rest of the campaign is simple: stay in the Premier League. But even as international matches were taking place, Everton found their way into the headlines with the publication of their company accounts for the 2020/21 season. For weeks, the FA Cup had been a glimmer of light in a dismal season.

Christian Eriksen could be missing link in Tottenham's revived attack (The Guardian)

While Harry Kane and Son Heung-min impressed against Newcastle, they could do with Eriksen's guile in midfield.

One searing half-volley from Kane was destined for the top corner until it struck the unfortunate Emerson clean in the face. Harry Kane has also been forced to adapt his game since Eriksen’s departure and it was his combination with Kulusevski which provided the spark for Son’s game-changing goal. “To come back here would be a good opportunity for him, for me, for the club, but now he’s signed for Brentford, only six months, and we’ll see what happens,” he said. When Son dragged an effort wide of the target seconds after Emerson Royal had made it 4-1 to the hosts with more than 25 minutes to play, it was hard to believe that this was the same team that had struggled to create meaningful chances before falling behind so meekly. At that stage it seemed obvious that, despite the promptings of the elegant Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, Tottenham were in desperate need of a player who is capable of opening up organised defences.

10 things we learned in the Premier League – Matchweek 30 (NBC Sports)

What did we learn during Matchweek 30 of the 2021-22 Premier League season (which still has a Monday meeting of Crystal Palace and Arsenal on its docket)?

If he isn’t, the Foxes may have to make the unpopular decision to cash-in on a man who may not be long for the King Power Stadium regardless (NM). But even a minor upgrade on Maupay or a real center forward for him to run off of likely has the Seagulls in the top seven conversation (NM). 5. VAR saves Man Utd (twice?) — (Man Utd 1-1 Leicester) –  It was 1-1 when Kelechi Iheanacho and Raphael Varane were allowed to let play despite fouls on each other after the Nigerian striker got the ball stuck in his feet late in the game, leading to a James Maddison goal. 9. Inconsistency holding Aston Villa back (Wolves 2-1 Aston Villa) – Player by player, there’s a strong case to be made that Aston Villa have the second-most talented squad (Leicester) in the mid-table battle. Kalvin Phillips came on just after Southampton made it 1-1 and were dominating the game, but he settled things down, dropped into defense to get on the ball and he brought calm to the usual Leeds chaos. That is what they’ve missed so badly this season (plus Patrick Bamford’s goals, of course) and Phillips showed his class as he looks to get back to his best and be fully fit for the last six weeks of the campaign (JPW). When they come out flat, they hardly look like they belong in the Premier League. Three straight wins last month saw them score nine goals while conceding zero. 6. Negative Everton has zero momentum (West Ham 2-1 Everton) –  Frank Lampard was forced into a late change as Donny van de Beek was injured in the warm-up and Mason Holgate replaced him. Tottenham is too good with this manager and the additions of Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Betancur, and Dejan Kulusevski joining a back-to-their-best Heung-min Son and Harry Kane in making this team capable of a Champions League return (NM). 4. Chelsea can’t cope with Brentford press as Tuchel makes rare error (Chelsea 1-4 Brentford) – Thomas Tuchel revealed before the game that he selected Ruben Loftus-Cheek instead of Jorginho because he anticipated a rough and tumble battle with the “physical” Bees. That decision proved a disastrous one for much of the first half, as Chelsea were frequently unable to pass out of their own end after Edouard Mendy took a short goal kick. 7. Brighton’s solid buys request a finisher, please (Brighton 0-0 Norwich) – From Marc Cucurella — who was fantastic at left back — to Leandro Trossard — who was busy doing an Eden Hazard in his prime impression on Saturday, the Seagulls have purchased so many players perfect for Graham Potter’s system (and if they were already there when Potter was hired, credit the Seagulls for selecting that boss). But Brighton’s misses in front of goal have been well-documented and will be further magnified by Neal Maupay’s penalty sent well over the bar. Anytime you’re under pressure and in trouble, just look for Jorginho. He’ll create a pocket of space to receive the ball and, somehow, turn out of the same danger you couldn’t handle, and all is typically well.

Premier League table and fixtures for Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd and ... (iNews)

This weekend's Premier League action has left Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham and Spurs separated by just three points in the race for the Champions ...

The real ace up the Hammers’ sleeve though is the fixture list: their run-in includes games against Brentford, Burnley, Norwich and Brighton, all of which will be viewed as eminently winnable. Spurs, Arsenal and Man United all have games in hand on the Hammers – but it would be unwise to write them off. This clash with United comes three days after a visit to third-placed Chelsea and is a fixture which has, in recent seasons, had little of the competitive significance of these two sides’ mid-2000s glory days. Brighton (A) – Sat 7 May, 3pm Liverpool (A) – Sat 7 May, 3pm The pair are tied on points and their goal difference is in Spurs’ favour by only two, though Arsenal do have two games in hand.

Premier League wrap: Spurs move into top four, Everton stare at risk ... (Scroll.in)

While Tottenham are firmly in the race to qualify for next season's Champions League, West Ham's 2-1 victory pushed Everton deeper into relegation trouble.

I asked my players today to start in the same way we left. I said it was a pity we had to stop. We have to continue to play this way with intensity,” Conte said. I was happy before the international break. “It’s very difficult to be in the race for the Champions League. We want to stay there until the end. Regardless of that result, Tottenham are firmly in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League, despite Conte’s claim that it would be a miracle to finish in the top four.
