Sotirio, who had looked dangerous, smashed home from the edge of the area, via a deflection. Steve Lustica provided a route back for Western United with a smart finish, after neat work on the edge of the area, but Sotirio stamped out any hopes of a comeback with a sharp turn and finish eight minutes later, after Piscopo's perfect cut back. The result takes the Phoenix into fifth place, with games in hand on four of the other teams in the top six.

Match Report: Western United 1-4 Wellington Phoenix (Western United FC)

Western United fell to a 4-1 defeat against Wellington Phoenix at Morshead Park on Saturday afternoon after a damaging first half.

The referee gave the Phoenix a penalty and Sandoval converted, tucking it into the bottom left corner. Western United needed a swift response in the second half and Lustica delivered in the 54th minute, capping off a lovely move to score his fifth goal of the season. United looked to get back into the early in the second half through Steven Lustica, but Sotirio added a second soon after to allow Wellington to see out the game and earn a big win.

United signs off on Ballarat stay with 4-1 loss (Ballarat Courier)

John Aloisi's side quickly found themselves on the back foot, trailing 3-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Scott Wootton, Jausha Sotirio and Gael Sandoval.

"Because we've had a good season so far and we'll keep fighting right to the end. United controlled possession and territory for the majority of the first half, but fell behind in the 29th minute after Wootton found himself free at the back post to bundle home a corner. "Western United are a very good team, they defend well and we wanted them to come out so we could expose them in transition, and I think we did that very well today."
