Liverpool vs Man Utd LIVE: Premier League result, final score and ... (The Independent)

Liverpool 4-0 Manchester United: Follow all the reaction from Anfield as Liverpool thump a dismal United side to go top of the Premier League table.

Anthony Elanga is the man taken off. He sneaks into the area, meets Jota’s through ball and chips it over David De Gea to put the icing on the cake for Liverpool. Liverpool are ending the day on top of the Premier League table as they go ahead of Manchester City who face Brighton tomorrow. 90+3 mins: That’s the final whistle. Even worse, this 4-0, which followed on from October’s 5-0 to make it 9-0, only got so high because Liverpool just decided to get back into the mood. So much for a challenge for a Champions League place.

Manchester United don't even belong on the same pitch as ... (ESPN)

"Liverpool is ready for the title. We are not," Man United's Bruno Fernandes said . That is quite the understatement, writes ESPN's Rob Dawson.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson used his first touch to swivel past Fernandes and calmly pass out to his defence while United goalkeeper David de Gea's first contribution was to punt the ball into the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand under no pressure at all. "That is what needs to happen with us in the next transfer windows. "I don't need to be here saying about the difference of the level. There has to be a rebuild for sure." That's the same number of trophies in one season that United have won in nearly a decade. They smell like success, by the way, something the away fans who travelled from Manchester might not experience for a while.

Liverpool vs. Manchester United score: Reds go top of the Premier ... (CBSSports.com)

Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane scored in a 4-0 win for the league leaders.

That is on Rangnick. But the simple lack of intensity and effort in the first half -- it improved from the lowest of bases in the second -- is on a group of players who appear to have checked out for the season. They were getting the best young midfielder in the world back at their club after learning his trade at Juventus. But his employers seemed not to have noticed that the serial Italian champions had surrounded him with quality of a higher level than Nemanja Matic, another player who is off come the summer. On the rare occasion that they just needed a bit of possession after a spell of United pressure, he would ensure ball security. There was no sign of anything comparable from the visitors at Anfield. If you at least intend to weather a flurry of Liverpool punches you might set yourself up in an organized fashion with a clear idea what you wanted to do off the ball. This was training exercise stuff, the sort of move you can put together when no one is trying to tackle you. None of the 11 players seemed to have any idea what sort of plan they were playing to. That symmetry was spoiled in the 85th minute when substitute Diogo Jota picked the pocket of Hannibal Mejiri, slipping through Salah; with a clipped finish deflected off Aaron Wan-Bissaka, he became the first player to score five goals against United in a season. Do not let him turn and give him time to pick the pass. Instead, the Liverpool manager could simply relish watching his players put to the sword a United side who delivered a first 45 minutes of football that will rank among the worst in their recent history. The second half was not quite as egregiously bad, as the introduction of Jadon Sancho bringing more off-ball pressure and attacking thrust from the visitors, who have conceded nine goals against Liverpool this season without scoring once. It took only five minutes for Luis Diaz to open the scoring, tapping home from a Mohamed Salah cutback after United had been undone by a simple passing triangle on their left flank. You could not help but feel he was pulling a few punches.

When was last time Man United missed Europe? Red Devils battling ... (Sporting News)

With Manchester United battling for survival amidst the top of the Premier League table, it's possible that the club limps across the finish line and puts ...

Finally, there are intangible amounts that Manchester United would miss out on as well. Group stage qualification earns a team $4.11 million, and wins in the group stage net nearly $714,000 per victory. Reaching the knockout round earns $10.89 million, and those prize amounts continue to increase as the knockout stage progresses. First, there's the Premier League merit payments to each team for its final table finish. Wolves, in a very poor run of form, are sitting five points back of the Red Devils and represent the first team out of the European places. Meanwhile, seventh is almost surely a Europa Conference League position given that Liverpool have won the EFL Cup and will most likely qualify for the Champions League via table position. With a three-point deficit back of fourth-placed Tottenham, plus Arsenal level on points and holding two games in hand, United are unlikely to find a way through to the top four. Meanwhile, Tottenham lead the battle with a 64 percent chance to secure a Champions League position, while injury-struck Arsenal sit at 32 percent. Prior to that, the last non-Heysel era miss for Manchester United was in 1981-82. Previous European Competition Previous League Finish This leaves the squad dangerously thin, especially up front, as a brutal stretch of games begins to close out the campaign.

Premier League: Liverpool Blow Away Manchester United To Go ... (NDTVSports.com)

A brace from Mohamed Salah and goals from Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz powered Liverpool to a 4-0 win against Manchester United at Anfield.

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick said the Red Devils are "six years" behind Liverpool after being blown away in a 4-0 defeat at Anfield on Tuesday. Jurgen Klopp's men won 5-0 at Old Trafford in October and expectations of a similar rout were well-founded as Liverpool exposed the massive gulf between the sides with Mohamed Salah scoring twice and Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane also on target. "We have to accept they are six years ahead of us now. Rangnick's attempt to plug the holes in the United defence was a recall for Phil Jones, making just his second Premier League appearance since January 2020, as part of a back five. In contrast to the fine margins separating Liverpool and City, a 22-point gap now lies between the league leaders and United in sixth with only Tottenham and Arsenal's own failings keeping the Red Devils in the race to qualify for next season's Champions League. When Jurgen Klopp came they changed at the club and lifted not just the team but the club and city to a new level. Liverpool move two points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the table, but still need the English champions to slip up in their remaining seven league games of the season to win the title.

As it happened: Liverpool thrash Manchester United to move top of ... (The Sydney Morning Herald)

It's a potentially season-defining clash for two English heavyweights as Manchester United make the short journey to Liverpool's fortress.

A standing ovation for Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara who has really been the architect of this marvellous display. Mo Salah just loves haunting Manchester United and the Egyptian now has his second. Liverpool have moved top of the EPL table and have taken a giant stride towards a 20th title after thrashing their rivals, 4-0. Mo Salah became the first player in EPL history to score five league goals against Manchester United in a single season. They always try to give us the ball,” Salah said. In other news, Fulham have returned to the EPL after just one season in the Championship. Aleksandar Mitrovic netted a brace in a 3-0 win over Preston North End this morning that sealed their promotion with four games to spare.

Burnley's change of mentality to playing "must-win" football in the last three matches has seen a positive effect on how many goals there will be in their games. This means backing overs is the way to go. Since taking the job, Potter has conceded an average of 3.3 goals per 90 minutes (20 in six games) to Manchester City. There shouldn't be too many problems for City in this one. He is also on track to break his personal tally of goals in a Premier League season now - that goal being his 11th with his record standing at 13. He's the value play to score a header against a side that have conceded 10 goals from corners this season - only Leicester have shipped more. A fully wound up Leicester side with Jonny Evans and the huge figure of Wesley Fofana in their ranks trading at 2/1 with Sky Bet to beat Everton would usually get my punting juices absolutely flowing. But my main play sees me rolling the dice on Dan Burn to score again. Leicester City are set to play a huge part in whether Everton will be a Premier League team next season. Tuchel's side have kept 25 clean sheets in his 49 Premier League games in the hot seat.

Man City 3-0 Brighton: Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo ... (Daily Mail)

Manchester City roar back into form with second-half blitz of Brighton to go back above Liverpool to the top of the Premier League, with Riyad Mahrez, Phil ...

70min: It's a shame but Brighton have lost their way here and City are going in for the kill. Another way of looking at it is that City are half a dozen away from retaining the one that really matters. Graham Potter will like the fact the stadium is getting restless but he will want to see his players take much better care of the ball. Only a win will be enough to put Man City back on top tonight. This was a victory they deserved for the depth of their desire and their willingness to keep playing football their way. 65min: Brighton are the architects of their own downfall. In the opening period they had frustrated City and restricted them to half chances. It was a sign of just what was at stake. Alex MacAllister was careless to lose possession and Ilkay Gundogan was the immediate beneficiary. Manchester City went in to this game trailing Liverpool for the first time in months. When Phil Foden struck from distance for the second not long after, there was another huge diversion off a Brighton toe end. Instead victory has changed the feel once again and not only because City have their noses in front.

"It is one of the happiest days as next season we will be in the Champions League," said Guardiola. "People take it for granted but we have to be in the Champions League. When it happens mathematically it's because we have done really well. City will need everyone -- particularly key players like De Bruyne and Dias -- if they are going to hold off Liverpool and safely negotiate these next six games while also trying to win the Champions League for the first time in their history. If we don't win all the games, Liverpool will be champions. They might need a bit more here on Saturday, particularly if Watford are as organised and resilient as Brighton. This time City get to put the pressure on Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp's side not in action until 24 hours later against Everton at Anfield. "It happened three years ago, we won 14 in a row to be champions. When Bernardo Silva scored the third on 82 minutes, the home supporters finally got up the courage to chant "champions, champions, champions."

Man City beat a resolute Brighton side 3-0 to move back to the top of the Premier League table.

16’ – BIG CHANCE: Sanchez tries to play out from the back and Mahrez intercepts it and has time on the ball in front of goal but he doesn't pass or shoot. The goal he created was crucial in giving his team control of the match and stopping panic setting in. The eyes of the world were on Guardiola's men and Liverpool fans became Brighton supporters for the evening. A big slice of luck. However, once City got one goal the result was never in doubt. City are one point ahead, could that be all it takes to seperate them.
