Wellington Phoenix fans' double delight: A win at Eden Park and ... (Stuff.co.nz)

Their team's win over Western Sydney was topped off with a red card for former coach Mark Rudan, who left in acrimonious circumstances in 2019.

โ€œIn the heat of the moment, I want to win. Like elite athletes at their peak, our sports journalists are highly trained in the art of news. So we're asking you to support us with more than your attention. I apologise for that,โ€ Rudan said. It was Ball who set up the Phoenixโ€™s goal in the 22nd minute, combining with Reno Piscopo before crossing from the left to put the ball on a plate for Ben Waine, who was starting for the first time in four matches. The three points the Phoenix picked up at Eden Park on Sunday have put them three away from being sure of a place in the top six and the A-League Men finals series.

Phoenix earn big playoff boost with Eden Park victory (New Zealand Herald)

The Wellington Phoenix have taken a giant leap towards the A-League playoffs, with a vital 1-0 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers at Eden Park.

An ambitious Waine shot flashed just wide of the far post, before Ball was foiled by the advancing Daniel Margush, with Waine pleading for a cut back. There was some sympathy for Ugarkovic, with the turf unstable in that area, due to Dan Carter's recent kickathon. Jaushua Sotirio did well across two different positions and the experience of David Ball and Gael Sandoval was vital in a testing encounter.
