Only minutes later the Warriors sliced through the Raiders line, courtesy of a Daejarn Asi short pass for Euan Aitken to score. The Warriors have opened the scoring in the second half to edge closer to the Raiders with a penalty allowing them to equal the score at 20-20. The Warriors and Raiders ran into the NRL's two benchmark teams in round seven and came away with demoralising defeats by 60 and 30 points respectively.

Raiders: Elliott Whitehead's return from a facial laceration will have to wait another week, with the captain ruled out of the side. Addin Fonua-Blake v Josh Papalii: The battle for supremacy in the middle will go a long way to deciding the winner in Redcliffe and these two warriors know exactly what is required to lay the platform.

Johnson field goal snatches win for Warriors over Raiders (NRL.COM)

For the second time this season, Shaun Johnson stepped up to secure an extra time win for the Warriors.

Spotting that Raiders fullback Jordan Rapana was up in the line, Asi kicked behind him and centre Viliami Vailea raced through to score. “That whole second half was undisciplined, lacked any quality execution, it was very disappointing. Publicly, I am lost for comment in regards to the quality of that performance in the second half. - Butler firstly called out Murdoch-Masila and said: "Ben, you are getting the penalty. - Walsh levelled the scores with a 79th minute penalty goal after Corey Horsburgh was placed on report for a high shot on Matt Lodge in front of the posts to send the game to golden point. - The Warriors scored the first try of the second half when Asi put Aitken over in the 64th minute to give the New Zealand-based team hope of a comeback.

NRL live: Johnson the hero as Warriors bounce back (New Zealand Herald)

Canberra (2-6) will be ruing letting another one slip through their fingers with their handling and match management severely lacking. Matt Timoko and Xavier ...

The intensity lifted in the second half, though the quality from both sides was poor, with a remarkable number of errors. The Warriors were barely hanging on, but the Raiders kept opening the door and the excellent Asi sent Aitken across, with a superb face ball after drawing defenders to him to close the gap with 17 minutes to go. Given the circumstances, the first 40 minutes were pretty dire. After allowing the Raiders to score just three minutes later, the Warriors again responded, with Vailea scooping up a clever Asi kick, albeit from a fortuitous bounce. The Warriors had almost no possession or territory, but got a foothold in the game after an ambitious Jordan Rapana pass was fumbled, and Pompey exploited the overlap to finish in the corner. Instead of a rebound, it was more of a sequel.

Warriors have been on slide to mediocrity since glory days of 2011 ... (RNZ)

Comment - There is nothing for the New Zealand Warriors, or their long-suffering fans, to be embarrassed about in their latest loss, Hamish Bidwell writes.

In fact I'd venture that the NRL is becoming as well-followed as Super Rugby Pacific. It's because he can't coach players to be better, only urge them to try harder. Others, such as Cronulla, Parramatta and the Sydney Roosters are generally a cut above the other clubs as well. Far from Monday's 70-10 defeat to the Storm being a disgrace, I'd ask Warriors fans what other outcome did they expect? That shows you have elite talent, depth and pathways. That should have been the springboard to a decade of success, but instead the Warriors went backwards.

Warriors defeat Raiders in heart-breaker (Canberra Raiders)

The Canberra Raiders have fallen in heartbreaking fashion during golden point against the New Zealand Warriors in Redcliffe on Saturday afternoon, ...

An offload from Adam Elliott again opened up the Warriors right edge defence, with Hudson Young finding a hole in the line. Completely against the run of play after an error the Warriors were able to capitalise and score their first of the game through Adam Pompey. Reece Walsh kicked conversion to leave the score at 8-6 in the 25th minute. The centre was easily able to run it over for Canberra’s first try of the game, with Schneider slotting the conversion from the left edge, leaving the Raiders with a 6-0 lead in the 9th minute.

Johnson field goal gives Warriors golden point win over Raiders (1 News)

Shaun Johnson kicked a field goal in extra time as the Warriors bounced back from their record loss to the Storm.

A Euan Aitken try in the 63rd minute again reduced Canberra's lead to two points before the dramatic finale. Another blunder from Rapana, this time a slip in defence, enabled teenage centre Viliama Vailea to bag his maiden NRL try off a probing chip kick from Warriors debutant Daejan Asi, to again cut Canberra's lead to two points. Warriors winger Adam Pompey crossed on the ensuing play, only for the Warriors to concede a soft try to Hudson Young minutes later.

Warriors back up Anzac Day horror with stunning 21-20 golden ... (Stuff.co.nz)

In what was an otherwise horrendous display, Shaun Johnson kicks field goal to somehow get his team home in Redcliffe.

Somehow, Daejarn Asi, having been with the Warriors a matter of just four days, looked the best on park of anyone. Like elite athletes at their peak, our sports journalists are highly trained in the art of news. So we're asking you to support us with more than your attention. Lodge played his part in the gamesmanship and things fell his way. Then it was anyone’s game in golden point. Here, at a ‘home’ venue they hadn’t lost at (now 3-0 this year, 1-0 last year), they never looked any sort of shot of atoning for their Anzac Day shocker.

Nathan Brown proud of the fight Warriors showed in golden point ... (Stuff.co.nz)

The Warriors coach says Shaun Johnson may not be playing well, but he continues to stand up when they need him to deliver.

“But in two of them he got the play right that we couldn’t get right last year. Like elite athletes at their peak, our sports journalists are highly trained in the art of news. But we’re trying to make him earn his money and keep him active. “Daejarn is a young kid that’s got talent. It was a bad period,” Brown said. Down 20-12 at halftime against the Raiders and playing some woeful footy it looked as if the Warriors losing streak would extend to three games.

Warriors dig deep to clinch bounce back NRL win (RNZ)

The Warriors have shown the resilience and effort so dearly lacking just five days earlier to bag a bounce back victory in the NRL.

"But in two of them he got the play right that we couldn't get right last year. It was a bad period. "Ultimately, he got the part right that he had to get right.

The men in green have now suffered five consecutive NRL defeats, with their finals chances looking slimmer every week. Warriors players ...

"It wasn't a great game of footy and you've got to feel for the other mob," he said. "I'm lost for comment in regards to the quality of that football in the second-half. "It has to be psychological, it has to be put down to a lack of belief within the side to get the job done." Speaking to reporters after the one-point defeat, a "really embarrassed" Stuart was lost for words as he lamented the horror second-half capitulation. "That is heartbreak, that is five losses in a row for the Raiders and their season sliding away. "They didn't score a point in that second half, they were quite convincing and dominant in that first half, they had opportunities to go on with the game but couldn't get it done.

Daejarn Asi, a star is born for Warriors after incredible debut for club (Stuff.co.nz)

Shaun Johnson snatches another Warriors win with field goal. It was a baptism of fire for Daejarn Asi for the Warriors against the Raiders on Saturday, but he ...

Even so, he offered more than just throwing passes one out and getting in the way when the Raiders were on attack. So we're asking you to support us with more than your attention. Like elite athletes at their peak, our sports journalists are highly trained in the art of news. It was like he’d been with the team since preseason. It was Asi’s huge hit on Brad Schneider that lifted spirits early in the second half and he went on to throw the bullet pass to Euan Aitken to put him in a hole for the next try and was integral in the comeback. There were so many moments that stood out.
