Brumbies blow past Hurricanes to show title credentials (New Zealand Herald)

The Brumbies displayed their full range of qualities today to emphasise their title credentials - and show the work that remains for the Hurricanes.

More relevantly, though, it was their attack that shone in the second spell. But on today's evidence they need to make vast improvements to avoid being blown away in the quarter-finals. It wasn't flawless - they would have been vexed to allow the Hurricanes to hang around for so long - but was certainly enough to send a warning that the Kiwi sides won't have it all their own way come the playoffs.

The Brumbies blew away the Hurricanes late in the game to record a clinical 42-25 victory in Canberra.

Came on in the 72nd minute. Had a number of carries but was not able to break through the Canes rush defence, and took some wrong options in attack. Was lucky to get away with a suspect charge on Julian Savea late in the match. Was outstanding in organising the Brumbies backline and acting as a second playmaker. Supported his fellow outside backs and ran lines that exposed the Canes in the backfield. Was targeted six in the lineout for the Brumbies and won a Hurricanes lineout against the throw in the 32nd minute. One of the better performers for the Hurricanes in what was a lacklustre afternoon as a whole. A couple of missed tackles on his part ended in the Brumbies walking away with points. There were a number of times when he would have been better finding grass than pushing for extra yards near the touch line. A day to forget for the pivot. Landing a goal-line drop out outside the field of play was the final straw before departing for Morgan. Back in the mix after joining Dane Coles and Asafo Aumua on the sidelines for a couple of weeks. Topped the tackle count for visitors and did a decent job in disrupting the Brumbiesโ€™ flow. A so-so game from midfielder. Chanced his arm at an intercept which allowed the Brumbies an easy run to seven points. A careless hit on Nic White gifted the hosts three points and a numerical advantage for 10 minutes. Made to look human for the first time this year. Didnโ€™t control the game as well as he has in recent weeks.
