The Crucial P5 2TB solid state drive has dropped to a new low of $150 (Windows Central)

There is a newer version of the Crucial P5 out there now, but that new version is crazy expensive compared to this. You can still get crazy fast read/write ...

In addition to speeding up your system, it has a few other features. Watch your OS load in just a few seconds and change how you install things because it will just speed through that process. As with any M.2 SSD, you want to make sure you have a motherboard that supports the M.2 2280 form factor. The read/write times on this SSD go up to 3400 MB/s and 3000 MB/s respectively. In that case, get the Crucial P5 2TB NVMe M.2 solid state drive while it's on sale for $149.99 at Amazon. This is the lowest price we've seen and you can find this price at a few different retailers, including Best Buy. This seems to be an attempt to clear some inventory since there is a newer version of this drive available now, but the 2TB version of the P5 Plus goes for around $240 or more. With the Crucial P5 SSD you can get read and write speeds of up to 3,400 MB/s and 3,000 MB/s respectively.

Cameron Champ was in the final group, one off the lead and had just birdied two straight holes. Then came the par-4 8th at the Mexico Open.

A good amount of mud on the ball, and a cross wind, affected his approach into the green. His drive barely cleared the water on the dog-leg right at Vidanta Vallarta, and after some searching it was found plugged near the bank. And then he hit his drive on the par-4 8th hole at the Mexico Open.

Former TV star can serve drink-drive sentence as no longer 'homeless' (Stuff.co.nz)

A former television star has now found suitable accommodation to serve out his community detention sentence.

His lawyer argued “we live in a small town, and I’m talking about New Zealand”. Harrison said when his client got back to his accommodation after the sentencing on April 4, the place he was staying had “packed all his gear and told him he had to leave”. The man then reappeared in court a week later for a sentence review as his lawyer Rob Harrison said his client had been “basically rendered homeless” and was unable to serve out this community detention.

2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid First Drive Review: Saving Fuel Never ... (CNET)

Kia's funky new Sportage comes with an efficient and powerful hybrid powertrain, and it's a great value, too.

The 2023 Kia Sportage starts at $27,245 including $1,255 for destination, but the cheapest Sportage Hybrid comes in at $28,545. Remote parking assist will even let you pull the Sportage in and out of tight spaces without needing to be inside the vehicle. Kia says this is a problem it's actively working on, but the automaker still doesn't have a timeline for when wireless connectivity will be compatible with the larger display. It's powerful and efficient in its Eco mode, but switch the Sportage Hybrid to Sport and the experience gets noticeably more aggressive. The X-Pro's approach, departure and breakover angles aren't much to write home about (at 18.9, 26.6 and 19.3 degrees, respectively), but this Sportage can still put a wheel in the air and keep moving forward. All told, the Sportage Hybrid has no problem making quick work of a winding hill climb outside of Palm Springs, California. Sure, there's an appropriate amount of body roll, but the Sportage feels confident and composed at speed.

Unless you simply must have one of the “trail-ready” trims that are gas only, we’d go with a hybrid for its improved performance, specifically the EX. It has the larger infotainment screen, great fuel efficiency, and standard all-wheel drive to get you where you need to go even when the weather is a challenge. The X-Pro Prestige sits at the top of the lineup with a price of $38,045. Kia says that will come closer to the on-sale date, which is slated for the end of June. Move up one trim to the EX and that infotainment screen grows to 12.3-inches and becomes part of a curved panoramic housing shared with the instrument cluster. The X-Line is priced at $32,045 with the X-Pro at $36,245. If you want to venture into the dirt, then stick with one of the X-Pro trims. We drove the SX Prestige trim with the gas engine and found it did the job of getting the Sportage up to speed, but not with any great sense of urgency. The Sportage is not a hardcore off-road vehicle. The second upside is how much better the acceleration is with the hybrid than with the gas engine. Transmission shifts are well-timed to deliver that power right when you need it without the occasional hunting for gears experienced with the gas engine. The gas engine in the Sportage is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. They’re not known for having much in the way of personality or for being especially capable or fun to drive.

Test drive review: 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid makes the most sense (Green Car Reports)

The first Sportage hybrid proves to be the best Sportage, and is a better value than compact crossover rivals.

Kia expects the Hybrid to account for 20% of Sportage sales. Dollar for dollar, the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid is not just the best Sportage, it might be the best value for all compact crossover hybrids. The rear seats are among the roomiest in the class with 41.3 inches of legroom, and the 60/40-split seats can recline for more comfort. With a starting price of $28,545, including destination, and a 5-year/60,000-mile new car warranty, the pot only gets sweeter. Hybrid models except for the base LX get a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (it still requires a cord for connectivity, despite available wireless smartphone charging) and a dynamic climate control panel below it. A center locking differential splits the torque 50/50 to lock the front and rear axles, but otherwise the AWD system apportions torque based on the inputs. The regenerative braking system lacks paddle shifters or an EV-only mode, keeping it easy for drivers switching over to a hybrid for the first time. The Sportage Hybrid can jump from a stop, thanks to the torque supplemented off the line by the electric motor. Inside, the main difference is a gear shifter dial on the hybrid console instead of a mechanical shifter on the non-hybrid. With this system at work, the Sportage Hybrid plowed when pushed, but on twisty mountain roads it remained planted despite some sway from side to side. The fifth-generation Sportage is larger, roomier, and sleeker, though it lacks a sporting edge regardless of powertrain or trim level. All-wheel-drive versions employ a propshaft to the rear wheels—a strategy shared with the Honda CR-V Hybrid—rather than an additional motor on the rear axle that might take up more space.

2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid First Drive: Style and substance | Digital ... (Digital Trends)

The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid makes a bold design statement, but backs it up with a great hybrid powertrain.

The Sportage Hybrid is also a good crossover SUV, offering similar interior space to other vehicles in its segment. But the Sportage Hybrid ticks all of the boxes that really matter, showing Kia’s often overlooked strength in hybrid vehicles. While Kia’s decisions were understandable, we wish the Sportage Hybrid was a little more entertaining to drive. That’s because the Sportage Hybrid is a new model that only went on sale recently. The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid delivers exactly what it needed. The all-wheel drive Ford Escape Hybrid and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid are rated at 40 mpg combined, while the Honda CR-V Hybrid matches the Kia at 38 mpg combined. If tech is the priority, the top SX-Prestige model is the obvious choice. We also found the touchscreen to be pretty responsive, and liked the graphics, including a digital clock-style typeface for the speedometer. The new Sportage is about an inch taller and half an inch wider than the previous-generation model, but 7.1 inches longer. The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid launches in LX, EX, and SX-Prestige trim levels. The previous-generation Sportage was a solid contender, but with some many vehicles to choose from in this crowded market segment, Kia needed to do more to stand out. The way the lights blend into the grille gives the Sportage a somewhat alien appearance.

2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid First Drive: Ignore the "Green-ness" and ... (Motor Trend)

The ruggedly styled Sportage X-Pro may grab eyeballs, but the best version of Kia's new compact SUV isn't the one with outdoorsy appeal.

Sportage to Sportage, the hybrid is the better pick, and it's about so much more than the money you'll save at the pump. So we'll refocus on the general 2023 Kia Sportage buyer. Considered just on its performance, the Sportage Hybrid is a match for the segment overall, but its real value comes with the way the performance is coupled with features you might not expect. If a power liftgate and AWD are the two most important features for you and the 2023 Sportage otherwise looks good, we strongly encourage you to consider the hybrid. A 2023 Sportage X-Line with a package that includes a power liftgate is just $200 less than a 2023 Sportage Hybrid EX with the same package. The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid's biggest wow factor isn't the aggressively different styling but its interior. The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid is the middle child in a three-model family that will eventually include a more expensive plug-in model. The other is the way the powertrain quiets the engine. Without question, the 2023 Sportage at the top of our list is the new hybrid model. We don't expect the Sportage Hybrid to post segment-leading acceleration despite its segment-leading horsepower, but it feels noticeably quicker than the standard Sportage. If you scoff at the value of 0-60 times on a sensible compact SUV, consider its value the next time you want a quick burst of speed to pass a big truck on the highway. With the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid, the hybrid four-cylinder powertrain improves on the standard Sportage's formula, one that led to a genial but lukewarm first impression. Although the 187-hp standard 2023 Kia Sportage tried its best on the winding, hilly roads above Palm Springs, California, the hybrid's 40 extra horsepower are welcome.

2023 Kia Sportage First Drive Review: Heading Straight for the RAV4 (Motor Trend)

Kia's 2023 Sportage is out to steal the Toyota's lunch money, and the new compact SUV makes some bold moves.

The new 2023 Kia Sportage represents a meaningful upgrade compared to the outgoing model. Despite that caveat, the 2023 Kia Sportage is otherwise a good step forward. Not every box is checked here, but the Sportage is hugely improved. As of this writing, the 2023 Kia Sportage hasn't been safety tested. Considering the improvements in tech and spaciousness, this may not be a deal breaker for most, but it's worth noting. For the non-hybrid Sportage, EPA-rated fuel economy comes to 25/32 mpg city/highway with FWD and 23/28 with AWD. Combined city/highway driving range is only around 358 miles with AWD and just better than 400 with FWD, meaning you'll visit the gas station more often than you might with competitors that combine slightly better fuel economy with a decent-sized gas tank. Bottom line: The 2023 Kia Sportage can execute passing maneuvers no problem, but you'll simply have to plan ahead a bit more than in the segment leaders and listen to the engine a little bit longer. Like all 2023 Sportages with AWD, the X-Pro has 8.3 inches of ground clearance, which is less than the Subaru Forester (8.7 or 9.2 inches depending on model) and the RAV4 (8.4 to 8.6 inches). So it won't win bragging rights with the off-roader crossover crowd, but our first experience off the beaten path suggests it should do just fine for those who'll venture off-road. The cupholders are also notable enough to mention because of their ability to handle cups as well as larger objects without requiring the removal of a separate trim piece that'll get in the way later—press a button and the spring-loaded cupholder edges disappear. Finally, the Kia Sportage stands out for the right reasons. The 2023 Sportage may boast 6 extra horsepower than before from its 2.5-liter turbo-free I-4, but the eight-speed automatic and 187-hp engine are no match for the much more capacious SUV's slight weight gains and bumps in fuel economy. Offering a full-size digital instrument cluster on every trim is a huge differentiator—it may not be in 10 years, but it is now even if the one on lower trims isn't as customizable as the one on higher trims.

2023 Lexus RZ450e Prototype Drive: Does Lexus' First Electric ... (Motor Trend)

The Lexus RZ450e electric SUV is a radical improvement on the Toyota bZX4 on which it is based—but it also shares its cheaper sibling's faults.

We do know the RZs are scheduled to arrive in American Lexus dealerships toward the end of November, and by that time we should have had an opportunity to drive the U.S.-spec production version. The steering wheel is also similar to that of the NX, but there's a camera pod atop the column. As for the steering, we drove an RZ equipped with a conventional steering system and a conventional steering wheel, and it was on par with other Lexus SUVs': nicely weighted but a little lacking in both feedback and on-center feel. Our short test drive meant we avoided the issues of charging and range, but that's going to be a sticking point for Lexus, as it is for Toyota. The RZ450e shares its 71.4-kWh lithium-ion battery with the single-motor version of the bZ4X, and Lexus anticipates an EPA-rated range of just 225 miles with 18-inch wheels and 200 miles with 20-inch wheels. However, unlike most other EVs (not to mention Toyota and Lexus hybrids), the brake pedal does not blend regen and friction braking—the RZ has a completely conventional hydraulic-only braking system. It's an intuitive system, and seeing it in the RZ was as pleasant as running into an old friend. Many EVs have strong enough regen that one rarely need to use the friction brakes.) The RZ will have four levels of regenerative braking controlled by paddles on the steering column, a setup we've used in EVs from Hyundai and Kia and have come to like. Although the RZ's yoke isn't as comfortable to hold as a conventional steering wheel, the variable-ratio steering system is surprisingly intuitive and provides outstanding tracking, good feel and feedback, and sensible responses to panic maneuvers. (Those numbers might sound familiar, as the RZ's front motor comes from the front-wheel-drive bZ4X and the rear motor is slightly more efficient but otherwise identical to that of the all-wheel-drive bZ4X.) The RZ is noticeably quicker than the Toyobaru versions, but it's not a face-flattener like the dual-motor Tesla Model Y. As we cranked up our speed through the turns, it was the front end that let go first—try to contain your surprise—but the all-wheel-drive system acted as advertised: Punching the accelerator directed power to the outside rear wheel, providing enough thrust to tighten the RZ's line but not so much that it overwhelmed the tires. Driving on a glass-smooth track surface gave us little information about how bumpy roads will affect the RZ450e's ride and handling, but we did appreciate how well the RZ's acoustic glass and sound insulation blocked out wind noise. For those unfamiliar, the RZ450e is Lexus' version of parent company Toyota's bZ4X and Subaru's version, the Solterra. Not that you'd know it by looking: Where the bZ4X and Solterra are nearly identical, the RZ gets its own unique look inside and out.

Glass dismissed: wine goes green with paper bottle drive (The Guardian)

Eco bottle from sustainable brand When in Rome goes on sale through Ocado this week.

“In some instances it is two to three times the price but it depends on who you are, and the type of bottle. The consumer probably won’t notice the difference but the other one is not available.” The bottle, made by the sustainable packaging firm Frugalpac, is 94% recycled paper and has a carbon footprint that is about a sixth of a single-use glass bottle. “The production of glass involves huge amounts of energy, so the cost of glass bottles is going sky-high,” said Malcolm Waugh, Frugalpac’s chief executive. “Whether you’re drinking from a glass bottle or a paper bottle, the quality of the wine is not impacted.” However, he cautions, don’t put the paper bottle in an ice bucket. Even if the bottle does become damp, all is not lost, says Rob Malin, the company’s founder, because the wine is safe in a recyclable plastic pouch inside.

And in a win for the ALU, an NLRB administrative law judge found that Amazon had violated labor law in its firing of a JFK8 employee named Gerald Bryson, who is an ALU organizer. The move comes as Amazon faces shareholder pressure to undergo a racial equity audit in a proposal slated to come up to vote at the company's annual meeting later this month. Amazon said it was "disappointed" with the JFK8 results and laid out a number of objections Justine Medina, a JFK8 warehouse worker and ALU organizer, told CNN Business last week that due to the smaller size of LDJ5, Amazon's efforts may have been more effective. "This is just the beginning." After the JFK8 result, the ALU's attention turned to LDJ5. The only thing this greedy, abusive company won today is a guarantee that Amazon workers everywhere will not give up until they have a union," said O'Brien in a statement. The NLRB expects to hold a hearing on the matter but it has not yet been scheduled.) In a statement, Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said the company is "glad that our team at LDJ5 were able to have their voices heard. "The fight at Amazon continues. The ALU's unlikely success in its first election at Amazon's JFK8 warehouse, which employs more than 8,000 workers and is also located on Staten Island, is viewed as a milestone event with potential broader implications for Amazon's sprawling network of facilities.

New York Amazon workers deal setback to union drive (Bangkok Post)

NEW YORK: Workers at an Amazon facility in New York have roundly voted against unionization -- dealing a setback to a burgeoning organized labor movement ...

It has to be a multifaceted organizing effort of the corporation, it cannot just be one by one." The fight has just begun." "The count has finished. "We all know there are going to be wins and losses, we're going to fight another day." "At the end of the day, this is a marathon not a sprint," Smalls told reporters. The election at the LDJ5 warehouse followed on the heels of an upset April 1 win by the Amazon Labor Union (ALU) at the much larger JFK8 Staten Island company site -- which established the first American union at the retail colossus.

Amazon workers at a facility in Staten Island voted not to join an upstart union.

Amazon, which has managed to keep organized labor out of its U.S. operations for more than a quarter-century, is fighting to get the JFK8 vote overturned. “There’s enough ‘oomph’ going on that I don’t think it would be a huge setback.” Moreover, the ALU is trying to organize two more Amazon facilities in New York. The election at the LDJ5 sorting center in Staten Island wasn’t close, with the Amazon Labor Union garnering just 345 yes votes to 550 nos as of 2:23 p.m. local time.

Starbucks workers drive nationwide surge in union organizing ... (Alaska Public Media News)

On August 30, 2021, three Starbucks stores in and around Buffalo, New York, filed union election petitions with the National Labor Relations Board.

Chris Smalls, the president of the Amazon Labor Union and a former warehouse supervisor, is in his early 30s. Still, an examination of who is filing election petitions with the NLRB reveals important shifts that are happening in worker organizing, even as union membership in the U.S. remains low, with just over 6% of private-sector workers unionized. Also, the number of union election petitions filed is not indicative of how many workers overall are seeking representation. Bronfenbrenner has found that a far greater share of private-sector organizing, including among hotel staff and janitorial workers, happens outside union elections. Not all workers seeking to organize do so through the union election process. The NLRB reported that union election petitions were up 57% in the first half of the 2022 fiscal year, compared with the year before.
