The roots of the zombie claim that Hitler had 'Jewish blood' (The Washington Post)

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov cited an often-debunked claim about Hitler's ancestry. Here's where that story comes from.

His study, arguing that more credence should be given to Frank’s account, was published in the Journal of European Studies. To top it off, the son of Frankenreiter — the alleged grandfather — would only have been 10 when Alois was born. Frank claimed that he discovered that Hitler’s paternal grandmother, Maria Anna Schicklgruber, gave birth in 1937 to Hitler’s father, Alois, while working as a cook for a Jewish family in Graz, a city in Austria. Schicklgruber was 42 at the time. Hitler cited his grandmother as a source of the story — but she had died 40 years before he was born.) During Hitler’s rise to power, the missing information about his grandfather led to speculation about a possible Jewish ancestry. The source of this story stems from a documented fact: Hitler’s father was born out of wedlock and Hitler’s grandfather has never been revealed.

"Even when such statements are made without any ill intent, they become a powerful catalyst for further destructive action. "If contentious historical debates were acceptable until recently, now that perception of facts is too inflamed, they are completely impermissible. In March, Boroda, the strongest leader in the Russian Jewish community, after Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar, was quoted saying that "it's hard to understand why neo-Nazism asserting itself in Ukraine." He said: “It is difficult to understand that in Ukraine, where there is a fairly large and largely prosperous Jewish community, the glorification of criminals responsible for the death of the ancestors of those Jews is going on in parallel.”
