'Can't be real': NBA's best team crashes out of playoffs after 'embarrassing' 74-year low.

Boston found that in the second half as Antetokounmpo went from shooting 6-for-9 to start the game to 3-for-14 as the Bucks fell behind 87-68. Milwaukee’s game plan in the first half surrounding daring Williams and Derrick White to shoot, with the pair combining to go 3-for-12 from downtown early. Milwaukee though could not just rely on Boston continuing its shooting struggles and it did not take long for the Celtics to take the lead for the first time in the game. It meant the Celtics took a 48-43 lead into the break, with 3-point shooting the difference after Boston shot 40 per cent from deep compared to 15 per cent from Milwaukee. Antetokounmpo (17 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists) was still leading the scoring for Milwaukee at that point, with Lopez (11 points) and Holiday (six) the next closest. The Celtics struggled early in the game, shooting 2-for-9 from the floor as the Bucks took an early 13-6 lead in the first quarter. The Bucks took a 26-20 lead into the second, with Antetokounmpo scoring or assisting on Milwaukee’s first 24 points as Boston shot just 29 per cent from the floor. It was a disappointing ending for Antetokounmpo, who became the first player in NBA history with 200 points, 100 rebounds and 50 assists in a single series. The Suns scored a season-low 17 points in the first quater, with Doncic putting up 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists by that point alone. With it, Doncic and Dinwiddie became the first pair of teammates to score 20 points in a half in a Game 7 since Patrick Ewing and Allan Houston, per ESPN Stats and Info. Doncic made a statement early in Monday’s game, scoring Dallas’ first seven points as the Mavericks went on to a 21-12 lead early. Jae Crowder and Cam Johnson (five points) both led the scoring for the Suns, who as a team shot 24.4 per cent from the floor and 21.4 per cent from downtown.

NBA playoffs: Doncic and Dinwiddie star as Mavs crush No1 seed ... (The Guardian)

Dallas will play Golden State for a place in the NBA finals while Boston beat the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Celtics trailed early but outscored the Bucks 61-38 in the second half to cruise to the victory. Boston will face top-seeded Miami beginning on Tuesday in a rematch of the 2020 East finals. They won the first two games against the Bucks in the NBA Finals last season before losing four straight games. That helped Dallas push to a 27-17 advantage in the first quarter and a whopping 57-27 cushion at the halftime break. He also got some help: Dinwiddie was fantastic in the first half with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4 of 5 from three-point range. Conversely, it was an embarrassing no-show for the Suns who advanced to the NBA finals last season with a very similar roster.

Without their second star, Khris Middleton, it was an accomplishment itself for Giannis and the Bucks to get this far. An even bigger one?

In truth, it was an accomplishment for the Bucks to reach Game 7. "It's one of the toughest things to do, find that balance," Celtics coach Ime Udoka said. In Game 7, it was outrageous; the Bucks made 1 of 23 over the last three quarters, and the Celtics set a franchise record by making 22 total. And Khris Middleton -- Antetokounmpo's All-Star teammate, shot creator and clutch scorer -- missed the entire series because of a knee injury suffered in the first round. "Giannis is the best player in the world. Already with a dazzling postseason résumé, the performance Antetokounmpo put forth in this second-round series was still one for the ages.

Dallas Mavericks knock Phoenix Suns out of NBA playoffs (Stuff.co.nz)

Phoenix Suns left stunned after Luka Doncic goes on scoring blitz to take Mavericks into Western Conference semifinals.

Boston used a whopping 54-point advantage from behind the arc to improve to 25-9 in seventh games. They won the first two games against the Bucks in the NBA Finals last season before losing four straight games. “You could see some of the pressure was on them early,” Kidd said. Meanwhile, Phoenix's All-Star backcourt of Paul and Devin Booker was never a factor. Couldn’t make a shot early, that messed with us a little bit and Dallas played their tails of from start to finish.” The Mavs led this one by 46 points. Conversely, it was an embarrassing no-show for the playoff-tested Suns – who advanced to the NBA Finals last season with a very similar roster. The Boston Celtics have a terrific opportunity to win their first NBA championship since 2008 – and overtake the LA Lakers for the most titles.

The Celtics have been building for this moment for years with this group. Tatum will be the best offensive player on the court in the Miami series and he has shown growth in his game – the ability to take over as he did in Game 6 and the patience not to force offense as he did in Game 7 even with 23 points on just 14 shots. Tatum scored 46 points in Game 6, Horford 30 points in Game 4 and Williams 27 points in Game 7. “This is the group that I feel like is poised enough to get it done," Celtics star Jaylen Brown said. “I feel like everything we’ve overcome – all these battles and challenges and adversity that we’ve been through this season as well as the challenge that we just had overcoming the defending champs – I feel we are prepared.

Luka Doncic's legend grows as Chris Paul gets exposed (New York Post)

Time gets us all. And in the Mavericks' dismantling of the top-seeded Suns, Luka Doncic showed his time is now and Chris Paul's is past.

He was constantly exposed by Dallas, and averaged just 9.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.6 turnovers in the last five games, with Phoenix dropping four of them. And while Ayton’s future is unclear, the Suns could have a Paul problem. And his 39.0 point average in elimination games is the best in NBA history, albeit a small sample size. The Suns clearly have issues. “He’s Luka. He loves the stage,” Kidd said. Not to say that Doncic played harder than CP3 (he did), but at 37, Paul’s legacy can only change so much.

NBA playoffs 2022 - What to watch in the Miami Heat-Boston Celtics ... (ESPN)

Heat vs. Celtics. Warriors vs. Mavericks. Here's what you need to know about the NBA's star-studded conference finals.

But as is the case with any great player, the Warriors will always have multiple sets of eyes on Doncic wherever he goes. The Warriors knew early on Luka Doncic was going to be a problem. That is the company Doncic now keeps. "You can tell he's just experienced in terms of playing high-level basketball. We saw just how important 3-point shooting was in Miami's conference semifinal win over Philadelphia, when home-road swings from deep were jarring on both sides. The Boston Celtics overcame an otherworldly series performance by Giannis Antetokounmpo to reach the Eastern Conference finals. It's fun to watch." Boston will be hoping to snap a streak of four straight losses in the conference finals, including two at the hands of the Heat (2011-12 and 2019-20). Most surprisingly, Butler has knocked down 36.4% of his 3s on over four attempts per game. Jayson Tatum. Stephen Curry vs. Jimmy Butler vs. For top-seeded Miami, it will be a chance to make the NBA Finals for a sixth time in the past 12 years and for the first time since beating Boston in 2020 inside the NBA's Orlando, Florida, bubble.

From Celtics to Warriors, who are X-Factors in Eastern, Western ... (USA TODAY)

We know what to expect from stars Steph Curry, Jayson Tatum, Luka Doncic and Jimmy Butler in the next round. But which role players are key factors?

Kleber didn’t have a great series against Phoenix, but the threat of his shooting at 6-10 allows Dallas to stretch opposing bigs away from the paint and out to the 3-point line. He is a physical defender, rebounder and overall irritant who likes to get under the skin of opponents. After being cast out in Washington, Dinwiddie settled into his role of lead scorer off the Dallas bench. Now, Strus is in the starting lineup, playing nearly 30 minutes per game, averaging double figures in points (12.5) and shooting 35.1% on 3-pointers. Horford rejuvenated his savvy old-man game with the Celtics this season and the playoffs in particular. Williams scored a game-high 27 points and made 7-for-18 3-pointers in the Celtics’ series-clinching victory.

6 most likely candidates to earn Conference Finals MVPs (NBA.com)

Boston and Golden State boast dynamic superstar duos, but Jimmy Butler and Luka Doncic could step up to take home hardware.

The five-time All-Star averaged 18.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals in the conference semis, and closed out the series with his 15th career postseason outing with 30 points or more. An eight-time All-Star, Curry closed out the conference semis with his 31st career 20-plus point postseason outing, routinely hitting all the big shots we’ve come to expect from the future Hall of Famer. Curry has drilled at least one 3-pointer in each of Golden State’s 10 postseason contests, which extends his NBA playoff record 3-point streak to 122 consecutive games, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Golden State has emerged victorious in 20 of its last 22 postseason series, and Curry is one of the main reasons. The six-time All-Star also boosted his shooting percentages from 43% on field goals in the regular season to 52.5% in the postseason and his 3-point accuracy from 23.3% to 36.4%. Butler has increased his scoring average by 7.3 points, rebounds by 1.7, and his steals from 1.6 per game in the regular season to 2.1 in the playoffs. The Warriors head back to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2019, and Thompson appears to be rounding back into form as one of the league’s deadliest shooters. You can expect Miami to pour every resource into stopping Tatum, which might prove fruitless based off the 46-point performance the young star produced in Game 6 against the Milwaukee Bucks in the conference semifinals. Tatum scored 17 of his 23 points in Game 7 against the Bucks in the opening half and started off the game shooting 5-for-5 from deep. Miami can’t just key in on Jayson Tatum in the Eastern Conference finals because the small forward has enough chemistry with Brown to routinely find the shooting guard for highlight-reel connections. Instead of ranking the players the way we do in the Kia Race to the MVP Ladder, we’ll list these potential Conference Finals MVP candidates alphabetically from each conference. Back on Jan. 1, the 2021 All-Star posted a career-high 50 points against the Orlando Magic, which included 24 points in the fourth quarter and overtime in becoming the seventh player in Celtics’ history to reach the 50-point mark. Interestingly, the Heat have finished with five different scoring leaders in their 11 postseason outings, but what you need to understand is the fact that playoff-mode Butler is a different beast.
