Steph Curry, Jonathan Kuminga graded in Warriors vs. Mavs Game 4 (Golden State of Mind)

Grading Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Jonathan Kuminga, and the rest of the Golden State Warriors after the team's 119-109 loss to the Dallas Mavericks in ...

His defense just got taken advantage of a bit. No selfishness. So it was really nice to see him have a bounce back game and play some decent basketball. Kuminga, on the other hand, very well might get a good chunk of minutes on Thursday, especially if Otto Porter Jr. remains sidelined. Bjelica is a very talented player, but this series doesn’t particularly suit him. His efficiency was fine, but he wasn’t able to get all that many shots off. After two games of being a star, Looney was something of a non-factor in Game 4. Wiggins has been exceptional in this series, but this game was rather pedestrian. Props to the back of the bench for turning a blowout loss into something slightly dramatic. Grade: B- And for the second time this postseason, they had a chance to sweep a playoff series, and failed. Not really sure what to make of Green’s performance.

Luka Doncic Believes Mavericks Still Have A Chance Against Warriors (Sports Illustrated)

After winning Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday night, the Dallas Mavericks now find themselves down 3-1 to the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors are a championship-level team, but they have had flaws of their own in past postseasons. Should they be able to win Game 5 against the Warriors, this series will suddenly be 3-2 in favor of Golden State with Game 6 to be played in Dallas, a prime opportunity for the Mavs to potentially even up this series and force a deceive Game 7. We have to go game by game. We're going to believe until the end.” And 3-1 has been done.” “Well, somebody’s got to do it.

Golden State Warriors Coach Steve Kerr's Statement on the Uvalde ... (Inc.com)

For a leader, deciding to speak up can be one of the most important decisions you make.

He has a right to share his opinions. He has a right to his opinions. They take stands they could be criticized for taking: not because they hope to stand out, but because they want to do the right thing. We are being held hostage by 50 senators in Washington who refuse to even put it to a vote, despite what we the American people want. Even if he isn't asked, neglecting to offer the customary "thoughts and prayers" could cause some to assume he's insensitive or uncaring. We're going to start the same way tonight. For one thing, as a public figure he's often asked to comment on issues and events unrelated to basketball. Fifty senators in Washington are going to hold us hostage. We're going to play the game tonight. We can't get numb to this. There's a reason they won't vote on it: to hold onto power. I'm not going to talk about basketball.

'Believe Until the End': Confident Doncic, Mavs Eying History vs ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Dallas Mavericks will try to force a Game 6 on Thursday night as they take on the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center in Game 5.

The next part is to find a way to win on the road. We just have to continue to take care of the ball, make shots." We did our part tonight," said coach Jason Kidd. "We found a way to win. We going to believe until the end." Could the Mavs possibly become the first team in history to come back from a 3-0 series deficit? "We got to believe," said Doncic. "I think our defense was way better today.

Coach Steve Kerr also commented on the shooting at pregame press conference.

Earlier in the day a gunman entered an elementary school in Uvalde and opened fire, killing 19 children and two adults. We need bipartisan action,” Hogg tweeted shortly after news of the shooting broke Tuesday. We know what we disagree on; we need to focus on what we can and do it, even if small. “We need to do something. Because that’s what it looks like,” Kerr said, addressing the senators. Kerr said he did not want to discuss basketball in light of the day’s events.

Game 5 Injury Report: Warriors vs. Mavericks (Sports Illustrated)

The Golden State Warriors are on the verge of another trip to the NBA Finals, and they have a chance to close out the Western Conference Finals at home.

Porter is being listed as questionable with a left foot injury, as the veteran forward attempts to manage both his current injury and also his potential availability for the NBA Finals if the Warriors should indeed advance. For Game 5, the Dallas Mavericks will once again have just the single absence of Tim Hardaway Jr., as the rest of their injury report remains clean. The Dallas Mavericks will not go away, but the Warriors have been simply dominant on their home floor all postseason long.

That’s not going to cut it on the road in Game 5. The Mavericks attacked it pretty well, only the Warriors pushed and went on a run to close the 29 point lead with their bench unit. The Dallas role players and positive regression played a huge part in the Tuesday night win. There’s a pretty strong correlation to Luka Doncic getting double digit rebounds and Dallas winning the game. However, against the Warriors on Tuesday night, they finally won that statistical category and with it, they won the game. Here’s some considerations prior to the game.

Did the Mavericks adjust and get hot, or did the Warriors ... (Golden State of Mind)

In Game 3, Reggie Bullock and Maxi Kleber combined for a 0-of-12 clip from beyond the arc. Some of those looks were shots they'd normally knock in — but for ...

Green was visibly frustrated and angry in the first clip above — there were rotations that weren’t made, and some that weren’t supposed to happen. With Moody lingering too long on his stunt, Dončić swings it to Brunson for the open three. On some possessions, all it took was the simplest of movements to get the Mavericks an open shot. Kleber sets the ball screen, but before doing so, directs Finney-Smith to relocate to the opposite (left) corner. In turn, Finney-Smith cuts through the nail and fills the empty space (right corner) that Bullock vacates. They were finding holes in the Warriors’ zone; Luka Dončić was using the attention he was garnering to create holes and generate advantages. You rarely see Dončić move after giving up the ball, but that’s what he does in the possessions above. Draymond Green also holds up a fist to signal to his teammates that they should get into a zone, but not everyone gets the message. In Game 3, Reggie Bullock and Maxi Kleber combined for a 0-of-12 clip from beyond the arc. He holds up two fists — the team’s hand signal for a zone. The open shots that weren’t falling finally went in, but the shots that were decently contested — the pull-up threes that are generally more inefficient than the open catch-and-shoot variety — also went in. The Mavericks shot a blazing 20-of-43 — 46.5% — from beyond the arc.

NBA playoffs results: Mavericks' shooting finally shows up against ... (The Athletic)

Golden State rallied late, but the Western Conference finals are heading back to San Francisco.

To win Game 5, they have to hope the Warriors don’t explode on offense, and they have to be able to knock down 20 3-pointers once again. What can the Mavericks do to win Game 5? But then Dončić got a dunk, and following a charge by Kuminga that was upheld after a Warriors challenge, Bullock knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:43 left to push it back to 15 and essentially end the game. They have to respect that offense and the firepower it carries. But he hit timely buckets to balloon the lead, and he had a huge dunk to end a Warriors run in the fourth quarter. He got the ball to his teammates, and they knocked down shots like we’re used to seeing.

Mavs Avoid Sweep Against Warriors on Emotional Day in Dallas (Sports Illustrated)

The Mavericks avoided elimination against Golden State, but the focus wasn't just on basketball for both teams.

I’m tired of the moments of silence. While both teams performed professionally, it was hard not for Game 4 to feel especially trivial in light of the horrific event. He took no questions, and pounded the table as he called on Congress to do more to combat gun violence. The Dubs trailed by as much as 29 points in the second half, until a bench unit cut the lead to only eight points in the fourth quarter. Dallas was finally able to take advantage of the Warriors on Tuesday, recording their first win of the series as it heads back to the Bay with the Dubs still up 3–1. The Mavs’ 119–109 win in Game 4 came on the strength of their outside shooting, as their threes finally started to drop like the rain through the leaky roof of Dallas’s arena. Jason Kidd read a prepared statement, and declined to answer a basketball question, saying he was not able to given the circumstances, his voice soft as he tried to gather his thoughts.

Mavericks vs. Warriors score, takeaways: Luka Doncic, Dallas make ... (CBSSports.com)

Dallas held off Golden State to stave off elimination in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.

Arena workers had to climb up onto the catwalks near the roof and set up a tarp system to catch the water. There are few players who can control a game like Doncic, and he was not going to let the Mavericks lose. Aside from the first half of Game 2, they have not in this series, which is why the Mavericks were down 3-0 and facing elimination. In Game 4 they found their stroke, going 20 of 43 from downtown en route to a series-saving win. Then, play was halted due to a leak in the roof of the American Airlines Center. When play finally did resume, the Mavericks picked up right where they left off and built a 29-point lead with some incredible 3-point shooting. The series, which now stands 3-1 in favor of the Warriors will head back to the Bay Area for Game 5 on Thursday night.
