Celtics vs. Heat: Jimmy Butler delivered a masterpiece right when ... (CBSSports.com)

Butler's 47 points on Friday go down as the second-highest postseason scoring output in Heat history.

Butler is the best player, of course, and that doesn't go for just the Heat. When he's being aggressive to score, he's the best player left in the playoffs. The Heat were bound to get hot from 3, where they entered the game shooting a collective 29 percent for the series. The attention Butler drew definitely opened things up and the Heat rotated the ball well, but they also had a few prayers answered. Throw in his four steals, and Butler joins Michael Jordan (1988) as the only two players in history to post two 40-point, four-steal games in the same playoff series (Butler had 41 and four in Miami's Game 1 victory). I probably should've been a Butler believer before this postseason based on what he did in the Bubble, but I just wasn't. I knew he was really good. The Heat made it a priority to play through Butler, who got the matchups he wanted and attacked. No way were the Heat going to lay down in Game 6. He did his jump stop, pivot and fade away in the paint. We just watched the Celtics come back from a 3-2 deficit to beat the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round. I'm not saying his knee isn't bothering him, but he just wasn't aggressive enough in Games 4 and 5, over which he scored a total of 19 points. That wasn't a problem with the season on the line. Said he couldn't get to the basket the same way.

Miami has two players who have scored at least 30 points in a Game 7. “We’ve just got to come out and play, come out and respond,” Brown said. “There’s nothing like a Game 7,” Spoelstra said. We’ve got to come out and find a way to win.” This is their fifth trip to the East finals since, and Friday’s loss made them 0-5 in potential East clinchers over that span. It’s living in the moment, trying to just do what you can.” “For us, it’s just another opportunity,” Celtics coach Ime Udoka said Saturday. “You put yourself in this position, going up 3-2, to have two games to win one. For Boston, Marcus Smart’s ankle has been balky, Robert Williams III’s knee is an ongoing question and Jaylen Brown banged a knee on a drive in Game 5 though finished the game with no obvious ill effects. Butler has been dealing with knee issues and twisted an ankle late in Game 6 though still came through with arguably the best game of his career. Miami has the home-court advantage for the finale, though home court has meant nothing in this series. “I’m sure they got a bunch of guys, too, just trying to figure it out and give what they can. Gameday Rundown: HEAT vs. Celtics Game 7 (Heat.com)

Boston Celtics vs. Miami HEAT Sunday, May 29 @ 8:30 PM Series Record: 3-3.

A huge portion of the game was decided by the HEAT winning the turnover battle, 23-8, and taking 22 more shots than their opponent, but this was a battle of the mind more than anything. The HEAT ramped up the physicality on defense, found just enough shotmaking – Max Strus and Adebayo each hit a massive jumper after Boston closed to within one – and responded to one momentum-building one after another. Instead what we’re getting is a series where both defenses have indeed been great, but each game has seen one team lead by at least 20 – Boston’s near-comeback in Game 3 was the only real pushback we’ve seen from a big hole – because as soon as one defense gets rolling then the other team starts to struggle even more having to attack in the halfcourt, and the more that team misses the more the other side can try to push the pace. In other words, precisely because the defense is so good and both teams have some inherent struggles in the halfcourt, we’re more likely than usual to see one run get extended as the other side is pushed more and more onto their heels. And in the end, that opening salvo offered a large enough lead to put Miami up 2-1 in the series. In winning the opening period, 39-18, the HEAT had just about as immaculate a start to a postseason game as you can possibly have. Both teams are going to come out of this one with plenty to like – Boston wound up winning three of the four quarters – and if you came into this game expecting a long series there wasn’t much on hand to dissuade you of that notion. With Kyle Lowry back, his effect on the pace of the offense, both in the open floor and in the halfcourt, was immediately evident as he pushed into a trail three for Max Strus and followed that up a few possessions later with his traditional hit-ahead pass to Jimmy Butler. But apart from Lowry and some hot three-point shooting, the real boost to the offense was Bam Adebayo scoring about as well as he has ever scored. And as usual – after Boston made a run with Butler off the court – he was there to bring it home down the stretch as he hunted the Payton Pritchard matchup relentlessly, holding the Celtics off with free-throws and jumpers. Boston was up by as much as they were up – 34 at the largest lead, but consistently over after their major runs – because they were hitting just about everything. Just as quick as Game 1 turned after the break when the HEAT rediscovered their own identity playing physical and precise defense and letting that effort power their offense, this time Boston was the team finding itself. He wasn’t alone in doing so, but there’s a level of pressure that Butler can apply to your offense that makes every pass carry just a little more inherent risk to it – an effect that played a major role as the HEAT’s defense fed their offense over and over and over again in the third quarter.

Celtics vs. Heat Odds, Game 7 Preview, Prediction: How to Bet ... (The Action Network)

Action analyst Austin Wang previews how to bet Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals between the Celtics and Heat.

The pace has slowed down the last three games (average of 91 in Games 4-6) and I expect these two top defensive teams to bring their best. The total opened up at 198 and has been battered down to 195.5. The nerves are high, these teams are so familiar with one another, and they are fatigued. The Heat are giving him the green light to shoot, and he’s had the third-highest Usage Rate for the Celtics this series. The last eight game 7s have gone under in the first half. After the demoralizing loss at home in Game 5, it appeared most of the NBA media and fans had written this team off. Butler had an epic game and scored at will with 47 points on 16-of-29 from the field and four 3-pointers. In addition, the Celtics are 15-1 straight up and 12-4 ATS as road favorites this season. Similar to their last series, White has been the X-Factor. He has had three consecutive games with a positive Plus/Minus. He had 14 shot attempts in Game 4, eight in Game 5 and another 14 in Game 6. They squandered a great opportunity to close out the series, but now will look to try and win their third game on the road for this series. The tough, gritty, physical Heat embody everything one would expect in a Game 7. It took until Game 6 to finally see a truly competitive game in this series. In each of the six games in this series, there has been at least one key player sitting out.

Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat Game 7 odds, best bet (Yardbarker)

Boston is favored to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in more than a decade while Miami is looking to get back there after losing to the Lakers ...

Fortunately for Ekman-Larsson and the Canucks, the recovery time for this injury is four to six weeks. If the dollars are equal, and I believe Calgary will pony up, then he has a decent shot to remain a Flame. If not, I think Gaudreau will be playing south of the 49th. And in all likelihood, Gaudreau’s next contract would outlive Sutter’s time with the Flames. But I think what it boils down to is this: Gaudreau is coming off the best year of his career on a very competitive team. I’ve written a couple of times already this year on how difficult it will be for the Flames to keep this group together, with RFAs Matthew Tkachuk, Andrew Mangiapane and Oliver Kylington to be signed in addition to Gaudreau. It will be a monumental task to fit all of their weapons in under the cap, but unless Johnny wants to leave or prioritizes money above all else, I think he and the organization find a way to keep him in Flames colors. The Houston Astros look to rebound from Friday's 6-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners tonight in Seattle. Houston is 10 games up on the Mariners in the division, so losing games to them is unexpected and shouldn't happen all that frequently. Back Milwaukee to improve to 13-6 in their last 19 on the road. The New York Mets have had a fantastic start to the 2022 season and they’ve done it without Jacob deGrom in their rotation. I am looking for a back-and-forth game that comes down to who plays best in the 4th quarter. Tatum is averaging a very nice 25 points per game at home in these playoffs but that number jumps to 29 PPG on the road. The oddsmakers are saying this one is likely to be a grinder. In the past two series, every time he has scored less than 10 points he has bounced back with 21, 31 and 18 points. Heat All-Star Jimmy Butler shrugged off a couple of back-to-back bad games and scored 47 points in the win.

4 things to watch for in Game 7 of Heat-Celtics series (NBA.com)

Superstar players, wild swings in momentum and nagging concerns all come under the withering glare of the Game 7 spotlight.

In the third quarter on Sunday, both Butler ( on a drive) and Victor Oladipo ( with a step-back 3) were able to score against Williams in isolation. Both Smart (right ankle) and Robert Williams III (left knee) are listed as questionable for Boston. Both played in Game 6, though Williams didn’t play in the fourth quarter. In their three wins, the Heat are 21-for-49 (43%) in the last six seconds of the shot clock. The Heat have allowed more than 122 points per 100 possessions with him on the floor in this series, and he hasn’t been able to make up for it with his offense, shooting 1-for-14 from 3-point range in the three games he’s played. And the Celtics scored 57 points on 47 possessions (1.21 per) in the second half of Game 6, so it’s not like the Heat’s extra-aggressive defense was super effective. In Game 3 (which they won by six points), the Heat made three tough shots at the shot-clock buzzer… And, instead of staying in front of the ball, White committed a transition foul with the Heat in the bonus. The Celtics erased a nine-point, fourth-quarter deficit in Game 6 on Friday and took a three-point lead. It was about a Heat defense that wasn’t going to allow the great players to make great plays. This will be the 35th Game 7 in franchise history, but only the eighth that Boston has played on the road. Home teams are 108-32 (.771) in Game 7s, a record that doesn’t include the four Game 7s that took place in the 2020 bubble. Of course, Game 7s from 10 or 20 years ago have little to do with the one that will be played Sunday night.
