In this month’s Budget, Broadcasting Minister Kris Faafoi – a former TVNZ journalist – announced $327m of taxpayer funding over three years for a new “quality public media” entity formed from merging TVNZ and RNZ. “Kamahl has been on leave the last week, while he dealt with a personal matter which required his full attention and he has now advised that he wishes to take an extended break with his family. The state-owned broadcaster has described Santamaria’s situation, in which he was off-air for more than a week before quitting, as being down to a “family emergency”.
