Substitute Andreas Cornelius scored twice as Denmark recovered from conceding to a brilliant Karim Benzema goal to beat France 2-1 on Friday in the UEFA ...

The sides will be in Nations League action again on Monday with France away to Croatia and Denmark in Austria. Benzema, on the same ground where he won the Champions League with Real Madrid last weekend, collected the ball on the right, played a one-two with Nkunku and left the Danish defence for dead before slotting in on the occasion of his 95th cap. This was the first of four matches they will play this month in League A, Group 1 before their players can depart on holiday, and the game did not really come to life in the first half.

Denmark Upsets France in Opening Nations League Match ... (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)

In the third biennial UEFA Nations League, Denmark came from behind to beat France for the first time since 2002.

The Nations League also holds opportunities to qualify for the Euros and the World Cup, the two other major international competitions. The group winners in the lower leagues will gain promotion. Depay doubled the Netherlands’ lead after a poor pass from Dedryck Boyata was intercepted in midfield. After collecting a pass from Frenkie De Jong with his back to the goal, Steven Bergwijn quickly turned and unleashed a 25-meter strike into the net. Christian Eriksen came close in the closing stages but France keeper Hugo Lloris made a decisive reflex save to deny his low strike. Mbappé, who appeared to pick up an injury, was replaced by Christopher Nkunku after the break.

France 1-2 Denmark: Cornelius double downs holders (UEFA.com)

Andreas Cornelius struck twice to earn Denmark a deserved win in UEFA Nations League Group A1 after Karim Benzema had put the hosts ahead.

The four group winners in League A will advance to the knockout finals with, in principle, one appointed as hosts. There are areas of work that we'll have the opportunity to work on in training." We had to change the game system and it's great to see the players able to adapt." We have a strong team with good players all over the pitch. People will celebrate this victory in the streets in Denmark, and we are happy to be able to make the country happy. We wanted to have the upper hand in midfield and not give up space to the French behind us.

Karim Benzema overshadowed by Andreas Cornelius as Denmark ... (Eurosport.co.uk)

Karim Benzema's brilliant finish wasn't enough to lead France to victory as Andreas Cornelius netted twice to hand Denmark a 2-1 win in the Nations League.

It's such a tight angle, but he manages to slot it home when he's one on one with the keeper. Coming on at 60 minutes against this France side and being asked to make a difference must be hard, but Cornelius made it look easy. 51’ - GOAL! FRANCE 1-0 DENMARK: Who else but Benzema? And what a fantastic goal that is. The loss means that France are third in their group, and they'll hope to rectify that when they face off against Croatia, who sit bottom. The second half saw a much more attack-minded France, and it was not long before Benzema scored. He did well to get there, but his shot hit the side netting.

It goes to VAR who instruct the referee to go over to the monitor and he rightly overturns it. Depay is the latest to let fly but his dipping shot bounces safely into Mignolet’s hands. A bit of a funny aftertaste, and none of the feeling you associate with the real thing. Kári Tulinius emails: “I’m not saying I’m having a hard time staying engaged, but I started reading the Wikipedia entry on the Belgian stadium’s namesake, and it’s never a good sign, ethics-wise, when one of the subsections is about another person’s murder. Belgium 0-1 Netherlands: Dumfries gets down the right and crosses into the box. France 0-0 Denmark: Mbappe is on the turf looking relatively dejected while shaking his head. He seemed to hurt himself with no one around him ... Belgium 0-2 Netherlands: Cillesen finally makes a save! Enjoy the match!” Boyata is having a stinker. France 1-1 Denmark: What a save! Looks live he might have knacked his calf.

Croatia 0-3 Austria: Dream debut for Rangnick (UEFA.com)

Ralf Rangnick's first game in charge was one to savour as Austria cruised to victory in Croatia.

The four group winners in League A will advance to the knockout finals with, in principle, one appointed as hosts. It was a strange match: we looked good in the first half and then we conceded from a counterattack. Croatia tried but could not apply the finishing touches in the first half, and Austria capitalised on their chances with some style. In the second half we played really well and scored two wonderful goals. The visitors were seeking a first-ever win in this fixture but nearly fell behind when Mario Pašalić nodded narrowly wide from Josip Brekalo's pinpoint cross. A trio of half-time changes by Rangnick paid dividends nine minutes after the restart, with substitute Michael Gregoritsch guiding Maximilian Wöber's cutback expertly into the far corner.

Belgium 1-4 Netherlands: Depay double as Dutch down neighbours (UEFA.com)

Memphis Depay scored twice as the Netherlands began their UEFA Nations League campaign with a comfortable Group A4 win.

The four group winners in League A will advance to the knockout finals with, in principle, one appointed as hosts. The Netherlands have shown that they are a very strong team that can hurt everyone." The bright spots for Belgium were perhaps debutant Onana, who proved eager until the end, and Batshuayi, who did at least get on the scoresheet. Blind then teed up Depay for his second and the visitors' fourth goal, and although Belgium rallied, with Michy Batshuayi registering in added time, there was no way back for them. Lukaku was forced off injured, and that only enhanced the advantage for the Netherlands, who finally got the breakthrough when Steven Bergwijn blasted in from 25 metres. Belgium made the brighter start and came close to the opener when Romelu Lukaku set up Timothy Castagne, whose shot thumped against the frame of the goal.
