The pair of Princes didn't seem to mind the rendition, but viewers at home weren't impressed.

It's no wonder then that this song of togetherness and joy was picked to be performed at the Party at the Palace. This naturally got a huge reaction from the crowd with nearly every member of the 22,000 strong audience at Buckingham Palace joining Rod for every word as they belted out the feel-good anthem. Most famously he appeared at several of England's games at Wembley during Euro 2020 last year, leading fans to hail him as a good luck charm.

Queen's Jubilee: WATCH – Major blunder as BBC Platinum Party at ... (Belfast Newsletter)

The Platinum Party at the Palace was a massive jamboree of dance, song, and spectacle, all tightly choreographed and broadcast from 8pm to 11pm on BBC1.

It also comes amid feelings of unionist disaffection over their place in the UK due to the Protocol, and amid a controversy about Northern Irish athletes being classed as Irish– rendering them unable to compete for the Province in the upcoming Commonwealth Games. It comes just after one of the biggest events in living memory in Northern Ireland took place – the massed parade of bands to mark the Northern Irish centenary. At time of writing the News Letter appears to be the only news organisation aware of the blunder.

Drone teapots, Paddington Bear, Craig David - there could be no more honourable tribute to Her Majesty.

But the best musicians and the best art itself is not “safe”; real rock’n’roll wildness was always too much to hope for for this concert far more intended to please her masses than Her Majesty. It was fun, sweet, silly, vibrant, deferential, deeply earnest, and sometimes – in tributes to Prince Philip, in particular, rally quite moving – but the Queen has not missed the party of a lifetime. The music only occasionally felt stirring – Alicia Keys was a highlight, regal in black at her piano as flames projected onto the palace behind her looking like molten gold. Why not project a short film of her late husband in the butterfly room at ZSL London Zoo onto the side of her house, too?

Platinum Party at the Palace review: One of the most bizarre ... (The Independent)

BBC One's musical extravaganza was an arbitrary mix of jolting cultural juxtapositions, writes Mark Beaumont. How could anyone look away?

A strange end to a head-spinning event that perhaps, unconsciously, acts as an ultra-meta comment on the insanity of the monarchy itself. Things get a little less breathless when the bigger acts are given a little space to run with, but even then they tend to turn in 10-minute megamixes of their most bombastic moments. And that’s just the introduction to a rapid-fire showcase of five different musicals that resembles the Royal Variety Show on meth, leaping between “Circle of Life”, “The Phantom of the Opera”, six s***-kicking R&B wives of Henry VIII and Jason Donovan struggling through “Any Dream Will Do”. No wonder the Queen herself gave the concert the swerve; she likely saw rehearsals from a window and realised her blood pressure wouldn’t take it. It’s all to celebrate 70 years of involuntary servitude to a woman at the head of a family accustomed to using our money to buy themselves out of legal trouble. Each performer is cranked up to 130 per cent and crams all of their most stirring showstoppers into their few precious minutes onstage. But what we, and an increasingly dumbstruck stand full of royals, get is one of the most bizarre and unrelenting barrages of random entertainment ever staged.

The Royal Family turned out in force for the Queen's third day of Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the Party At The Palace concert.

When Peter's divorce was finalized in 2021, a statement said: 'Whilst this is a sad day for Peter and Autumn, they continue to put the wellbeing and upbringing of their wonderful daughters Savannah and Isla first and foremost. Princess Eugenie: Princess Eugenie, 32, stepped out in a patriotic red, white and blue dress by Gabriela Hearst to attend the concert. She's the daughter of an oil tycoon and a mother of two. The couple share two daughters, Savannah, 11, and Isla, 10, who attend royal events with their father. At the concert she looked both stylish and comfortable, matching a black and white dress with a grey coat. Princess Anne took on a starring role in Trooping the Colour, accompanying her brother Prince Charles on horseback as he inspected the troops and took the salute. Beatrice was the most senior member of the York family present after her father tested positive for Covid. Whereas once the Wessexes would have found themselves on the second row of such an occasion, in reflection of Edward's lower placing in the line of succession, he has been bumped up the pecking order after Prince Andrew and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties. His seniority in the Royal Family means he is often invited to royal events not attended by other youngsters like Savannah Phillips, 11, and her sister Isla, 10. Prince George of Cambridge: George, eight, is Kate and William's eldest child and the third in line to the British throne. Among them was the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall, who has certainly been dressing to impress of late. Kate enjoyed the evening and was often seen singing along to het favourite tunes.

Inside 'Party at the Palace': Kate Middleton sings to Diana Ross ... (Fox News)

The Party at the Palace Jubilee celebration was the talk of the town, with royals singing in their seats throughout the electric performances on Saturday.

Finally, this was a testing event for Prince William, addressing the crowd and a huge worldwide audience must have been terrifying. Another legend on camera was Sound of Music star Dame Julie Andrews who famously got her royal break way back in 1948 at the Royal Command show singing for the Queen’s father George, the national anthem, and one that we know Her Majesty really enjoyed after all she was there too sat in the box. It has to be the Queen – plain and simple nothing could top the opening sketch and at 96 she never fails to surprise. "Harry Potter" actor Stephen Fry bombed with his joke aimed against the government and this proved very embarrassing when looking towards the Royal Box who were in chat mode with the Prime Minister Boris Johnson so not really the time to attack him on stage to a worldwide audience. What was interesting is that after a while Charlotte was beginning to get a tad tired and looked across at mom who smiled and whispered something in her ear which pleased the child who perked up no end. Chic star Nile Rogers told me backstage that "in terms of career honestly Neil this is the ultimate really there is nothing bigger than I am doing right now."
