A good team is able to put their best foot forward each and every night. “Any given night, things could go differently, but a good team is able to respond. So, you move on to the next one.” But Golden State’s penchant for getting back on track quickly did serve as a silver lining following the Game 1 loss. The Warriors know they let an opportunity slip away in Game 1. It was the fifth double-digit comeback by Boston in these playoffs.

Zach Dockar-Clay is also capable of playing in the halves and would provide a calming influence. As well as their cap space, there isn't a lot of quality off-contract in either role for next year. Matt Burton was brilliant at five-eighth against his former club despite the loss, laying on two tries and forcing two dropouts. Flanagan and Dufty may not be the answer to their issues in the spine, but there is enough talent in their squad to find a balance with Burton and Mahoney next year. Shaun Johnson has been a fantastic player in the NRL for over a decade - but the decision from the Warriors to sign him for 2022 and 2023 has proved to be a mistake. The 31-year-old has another year to run on his deal with the Warriors, but their chances of success with him in the No.7 jumper seem limited - especially with Chanel Harris-Tavita moving on at season's end.

LIVE UPDATES: Warriors vs Celtics, Game 2 – NBA Finals 2022 (Rappler)

The Celtics look to steal another win on the road, while the Warriors aim to regroup and equalize the series at 1-1.

The Warriors also need more contributions from the likes of Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins as they only combined for 35 points in their stunning Game 1 loss. Look for Horford and Brown to sustain their fiery form in Game 2, as well as a much-better showing from Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum, who only scored 12 points on 3-of-17 shooting. The Celtics defied the odds in Game 1 and unleashed a late-game comeback, thanks to the red-hot shooting of veteran big man Al Horford and all-around efforts from Jaylen Brown.

NBA Finals: Three keys for Warriors to even series vs. Celtics in ... (USA TODAY)

Boston rallied big to stun Golden State in the series opener, but USA TODAY Sports' Jeff Zillgitt has three keys for the Warriors to bounce back.

"You see the tape and you realize, 'OK, we could do this, we could do that, and you make some adjustments,' " Kerr said. "You go home after the game. Get yourselves back into the series." "I need to make more shots. Since their Finals run began in 2015, they are 21-8 after a loss in the postseason. The Warriors want to use their offensive creativity to help their scorers have better opportunities. "I reminded myself the playoffs are about being uncomfortable until you complete the mission," Klay Thompson said. "It's easy to go back and look at the shots in the fourth quarter and be like, 'Man, they started hitting,' but the reality is some guys got comfortable early in that game, and once you get a guy comfortable, it's hard to break that rhythm. So when he doesn't meet that, he's usually pretty honest and accountable to himself first and foremost, to the team, and then you go out and hoop. "And if I don't, we still can, but if I do, we win. "I think there were times in the game when they didn't feel us. Golden State needs to do a much better job defending the 3-point line.

With all due respect to the Boston Celtics, the Golden State Warriors entered Game 1 of the NBA Finals with a sparkling 9-0 record and +14.4 net rating at home in this year’s postseason. Does this make the Warriors a lock in Game 2? Lest we forget that these two teams ranked No. 1 and 2 in defensive efficiency in the regular season. These are A) excellent defensive teams, and B) teams that don’t exactly push in transition all that often. 3 Adjustments Warriors and Celtics Each Must Make for 2022 NBA ... (Bleacher Report)

Game 1 of the 2022 NBA Finals was extremely entertaining. How about the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors give us another hit another...

But it would also allow the C's to get him moving away from the action and vary his usage. Felt like the Celtics found a matchup for Williams with Iguodala. Able to stay in place on the screen thanks to White, recovers to Iguodala, helps vs. And if shortening the rotation is (inexplicably) out of the question, it might be time to unbox Nemanja Bjelica or test Gary Payton II's recovery from a fractured left elbow (assuming he's available). Boston was outscored by 10 points and unable to keep the Warriors off the offensive glass in the 16 minutes Horford and Williams played together in Game 1. It helped get them here and is part of their DNA. It also wasn't the problem in Game 1. Downsize to the "Poole Party" lineup that was outscored by nine points in three minutes and gives the Boston offense more weak points to poke and prod? Maximizing the Robert Williams III minutes goes beyond downsizing for the Celtics. You can argue that playing him independent of Al Horford and Grant Williams hurts him. The Poole Party combination struggled in Game 1 and hasn't been what you'd call an extended staple of the postseason. More are on the horizon, and we've got a few for Boston and Golden State to consider. RW3 spent five minutes on the court with Brown and Tatum and without Horford, Daniel Theis or Grant Williams, most of which came in the fourth quarter. Clinging to who made the threes in Game 1 is fine—to an extent. Al Horford should not attempt 57 threes in Game 2, even if the Golden State defense continues to ignore his existence.

They could have used his offense in Game 1, especially in the fourth quarter, when the Celtics outscored the Warriors 40-16. He finished with 21 points off the bench on 6-for-11 shooting and 5-for-8 from three. The Celtics are now 8-2 on the road in the 2022 playoffs. Whether it was "a lot of adrenaline" or "a lot of nerves," as Steph Curry guessed after their Game 1 loss, the Warriors need Poole to settle in and score as he's done to get to this point. Jordan Poole struggled in Game 1, his first NBA Finals game of his three-year career. This also marks the first time the Warriors have trailed in a playoff series this postseason.

SAN FRANCISCO — Klay Thompson offered some advice to Jordan Poole after the young guard had a poor performance in Game 1 of the NBA Finals Thursday night.

NBA Finals Game 2 Betting Preview: Warriors already in must-win ... (Sportsnet.ca)

The Golden State Warriors already find themselves in a must-win situation one game into the NBA Finals.

Curry had five assists in Game 1 despite the Celtics going under on screens against him and almost asking him to shoot. I’m thinking Golden State adjusts and treats Tatum like they treated Nikola Jokic. Stick to the shooters and force the star into a position where he has to score big for his team to win. Grant Williams hasn’t hit a three since Game 5 against Miami, but he has hit at least one in 13 of his 19 playoff games. I think it’s time we all admit to ourselves that Golden State is getting about a two-point bump, not from the books, but from the action. They just got outplayed in the fourth. On paper, even with Boston’s role players popping off, that’s a game the Warriors expect to win. So of course, I’m taking Wiggins OVER 5.5 rebounds. They occur on a continuum, and can affect a person's whole life. Al Horford’s renaissance kicked into sixth gear, with the big man posting 26 points on 75/75/66 splits. I don’t think the adjustments they need to make in Game 2 are onerous, and I think they’ll make them. Jayson Tatum’s shot wasn’t falling, but he made plays for his teammates, finishing with 13 assists. They’ve lost home court advantage.

Curry will probably only sit four minutes to start the second quarter, and if the game is anywhere close, Curry going the whole second half shouldn't be off the table. He's right that it's about the Warriors "understanding how the series develops." "It's the latter," Curry said. There's not a doubt in the world that Curry wants to be on the court more. Over that stretch the Warriors actually increased their lead from four to six, and in theory, if they can merely break even in the non-Curry minutes it's a win. But every non-Curry minute isn't a threat to break the dam.

Celtics vs. Warriors: Three critical things to watch in Game 2 Sunday (NBC Sports)

There are a few keys to Game 2 of the NBA Finals: Can the Warriors get more transition points, and will the Celtics' Jayson Tatum find his form.

There’s going to be lulls and there’s going to be highs, and just stay even-keeled and realize it’s the war of attrition at this point in the year. If he doesn’t things get much harder for the Warriors. That’s just the truth of it, and he knows it.” My doubts about Poole this series began with his vulnerability as a defender, but that wasn’t his biggest issue in Game 1 — he was respectable on that end. The bigger issue was Poole struggled on offense, with nine points on 2-of-7 shooting and four turnovers. He’s already proved how vital he is to our team.” Golden State shot 4-of-9 on its fast break opportunities in Game 1 (using the NBA’s conservative selection of fast break shots). Cleaning the Glass said the Warriors had a 114.3 offensive rating in transition in Game 1, which for context would have been the worst in the league over the course of the regular season. The Warriors’ offense thrives when they get stops or force turnovers, then push the pace and get the opposing team scrambling and in chaos. So I feel like I made the right play more often than not,” Tatum said. “We played about 40 great minutes, which will not get it done at this point in the season,” Klay Thompson said. I know what to do next game. This is a very good team and Golden State got its wake-up call in Game 1.

NBA finals Game 2: Golden State Warriors v Boston Celtics – live! (The Guardian)

Minute-by-minute report: Steph Curry and Co head to the east coast looking to level the series. Join Hunter Felt for the latest news.

A 15-year NBA veteran making his first finals appearance a day before his 36th birthday, Horford top-scored for the Celtics with 26 points, including a career-high six three-pointers. The Celtics did indeed have to play flawless defense, holding the most potent offense in the Western Conference to a mere 16 points, but Tatum didn’t score a single point from there on out. Both the Celtics and Warriors wore orange shirts before the game with “End Gun Violence” messages. The Celtics have, in a way, done their job in guaranteeing a road split, so the pressure’s all on the Warriors. Smart then adds to the Celtics early lead with a jumper. Nope, I have no real basketball argument to back that statement up other than “vibes” (and the fact that the Celtics have had a problem with, uh, not riding momentum after big wins this postseason). This just feels like a long, chaotic series so why not guess on whatever result ruins as many narratives as possible. Tatum then scores his first points of the game. Payton II misses the first free throw and the second free throw. The Warriors, meanwhile, take a timeout to plan what they’ll do with the ball on their next possession. Tatum hits a three-pointer that the Warriors would love to answer: And Draymond does! Curry misses his first free throw, Golden State leaving a lot of points on the board early, but makes the second. Looney strips Tatum but Curry ends up being the one who misses the first three-pointer.

NBA Finals Game 2, Warriors vs. Celtics live updates: Golden State ... (USA TODAY)

The Celtics stole Game 1 of the Finals with a shocking fourth-quarter scoring barrage. But the Warriors vow to play a more complete Game 2.

But he has been an important role player for the Celtics — and he was crucial to their fourth-quarter surge that buried the Warriors in Game 1. He’s been dared to shoot by the Heat and then the Celtics and accepted the challenge. Jeff Van Gundy will rejoin the ABC broadcast team Sunday for Game 2 of the NBA Finals after testing positive for COVID and missing Game 1, an ESPN spokesperson said. White has been a key player for the Celtics in their run to the Finals. He’s filled in as a starter for Marcus Smart when Smart missed games in the second and third rounds. Porter also returned from injury in Game 1 after missing the last two games of the Western Conference finals against Dallas. He had 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting in 24 minutes. Jayson Tatum got off to a better start in Game 2, scoring 13 points in the first quarter. White not only contributed on offense with his playmaking and shotmaking abilities, but his defense shined so much so that Boston's Defensive Player the Year, Marcus Smart, didn't have to enter the fourth quarter until the 3:47 mark. “We feel very strongly as a league that it's time for people to take notice and to take part in what should be a nationwide effort to limit the gun violence that's out there,” Kerr said. He scored nine points on 2-for-7 shooting from the field and 1-for-5 from three, down from his 18.4-point average this postseason. Jayson Tatum exploded for 21 first-half points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field and 5-for-7 on 3s. The Warriors head into halftime with a 52-50 lead over the Celtics. Steph Curry leads Golden State with 15 points on 5-for-12 shooting from the field and 2-for-6 from 3-point range. How the Warriors respond could define the rest of the series.

Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics don 'End Gun Violence' shirts ... (ESPN)

Steve Kerr said the idea behind the shirts is to make people aware of how to contribute to gun safety and gun violence prevention groups.

"We play a game that if you win, you're elated and you feel great about it," Udoka said on Sunday. "You lose, you're devastated for the moment but it's not life and death, you still go on. "It continues to happen. And so people got to vote, and if you feel strongly about saving lives and possibly even someone in your own family, get out and vote. "There are things we can do that would not violate people's Second Amendment rights, but would save lives. Warriors coach Steve Kerr and Celtics coach Ime Udoka both wore the shirts to their pregame news conferences on Sunday night. And there are ways to limit it.

It's one thing to make a ton of 3s -- the Celtics hit seven in a row to start the fourth -- and another to start expecting it. By disrupting the cadence of the game, the man whose first name means "patience" did his part to keep the floor from becoming scattered and allowing the Warriors back into it. Still, it's counterintuitive to stop the flow of a massive run -- twice! "He carries that sense of toughness with him and does instill that into the group every day." Udoka's experience -- to a degree -- negates the inexperience of his players. The question was asked, in just about every form possible, and the Celtics players responded by shrugging and repeating some versions of "basketball is basketball."

Boston Celtics (1-0) at Golden State Warriors (0-1) The Finals Game ... (CelticsBlog)

The Celtics look to take a 2-0 lead as they take on the Golden State Warriors in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

They need to continue to focus on playing the right way and not on the distractions of playing on the road. They need to keep the ball moving and they need to move without the ball to get open and they need to play as a team and trust each other. However the game is called, the Celtics must adjust to it and not allow the officiating to take away their focus on playing the game. Kerr is going to make adjustments to try to give the Warriors an advantage in this game and it will be up to Ime to counter those adjustments. The Celtics need to stay with him and keep him from having a big game right from the start in this game. The Celtics will need another big game from White and they need to limit Porter, especially from the perimeter. The Warriors had won 13 consecutive Game 1’s at home before losing on Thursday. The Celtics lost Game 1 to the Bucks at home and again lost Game 1 to the Heat on the road and won both of those series. However, the Warriors had 12 offensive rebounds to just 7 for the Celtics. It takes effort to grab rebounds and the Celtics must make an extra effort to crash the boards and beat the Warriors to rebounds, especially on the offensive end. Winning Game 1 is very important to winning a series as the winner of the opening game in the Finals has ended up winning the series 70.7 percent of the time. After a big win on the road vs Miami in Game 2, they came out flat in Game 3 and lost the game. After a big win in Game 5 on the road they came home and lost Game 6. The Boston Celtics look to take a 2-0 series lead as they battle the Golden State Warriors at the Chase center for Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The Celtics shocked the Warriors with a 120-108 win in Game 1.

Warriors level NBA finals as Poole's halfcourt buzzer-beater tops win ... (The Guardian)

Jordan Poole connected from just inside midcourt to cap a huge third-quarter run and the Golden State Warriors beat the Boston Celtics 107-88 on Sunday.

Boston entered the night 4-0 in the Warriors’ three-year-old home, the only team to have won there first four games in the arena. Those Bulls and Rockets went on to win the championship, and 31 of the previous 36 teams to open with 2-0 leads ended up celebrating a title. Poole finished with 17 points for the Warriors, who outscored Boston 35-14 in the third quarter to turn a two-point halftime lead into a 23-point edge.

The two-time MVP made five three-pointers, helping to overcome a poor shooting night from Thompson, who finished 4 for 19 from the field (and 1 for 8 from three-point range). Curry’s consistent probing and Poole’s long-range three helped Golden State outscore Boston 35-14 in the pivotal third quarter. The Celtics shot 9 for 34 on two-pointers in the first three quarters, finding it difficult to finish in traffic and draw whistles. Kerr made several tweaks to his rotation in response to the Game 1 defeat, reinserting backup guard Gary Payton II to help fill the gaps for forward Andre Iguodala, who sat out with a swollen knee. For Boston, the blowout was a continuation of its tendency to let up after victories and a reminder that it takes more than three-point shooting to win a title. It was obviously ramped up tonight, and it needed to be given what Boston did in Game 1. The shot swished through as the buzzer sounded, landing like a shock to Golden State’s troubled system and drawing a bear hug from Curry. The Warriors didn’t need to sweat another blown lead when a 45-footer was splashing in.

Steph Curry Reacts to Blowout Game 2 Victory (Sports Illustrated)

The Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics to even the NBA Finals at 1-1.

Going down 2-0 with both losses coming at home would have certainly been a gut punch, so the Warriors rightfully approached this game with the appropriate sense of urgency. While each win just counts as one, a dominant effort like this will certainly give the Warriors some additional confidence as they head into what projects to be a hostile environment in Boston. It was mostly Steph Curry for the first half of this game, with both Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole struggling; however, a flurry from Poole to end the third quarter helped give Golden State a comfortable lead entering the final frame.

NBA Finals 2022 - Golden State Warriors use patented second-half ... (ESPN)

Content to launch from distance and midrange, the Celtics attempted only six shots directly at the basket, and drew three fouls there. Green, who suggested the Celtics' Game 1 exploits would be impossible to sustain, proved correct. His handle and step-back off the dribble were well-tuned, and he initiated an unusual number of the conventional pick-and-rolls the Warriors generally forgo. Game 2 will not be placed in the Warriors' time capsule beneath one of the 32 private wine cellars at Chase Center. Their patented elegant offense appeared at times ordinary. Unlike their prolific spurt in Game 1, Golden State didn't squander it on Sunday. Coming off a 34-point outing in Game 1, Curry once again showcased his devastating combination of long-range marksmanship and constant motion, tallying 29 points on 9-for-21 shooting from the field, 6-for-7 from the foul stripe and 5-for-12 from behind the 3-point line.

Warriors Use Familiar Formula to Get Even With Celtics (Sports Illustrated)

Steph Curry & Co. won Game 2 behind another third-quarter run. The Finals now shift to Boston tied 1-1.

“It’s something we have to fix,” admitted Horford. They will need a better defense against the Warriors’ three-point shooters, including Jordan Poole (17 points) and Andrew Wiggins (11) who contributed to Golden State’s 40% shooting from beyond the arc. Just being aggressive and playing the Warriors basketball we know how to play.” “Gave away a lot of opportunities,” Udoka said. “Steph was breathtaking in that quarter,” Steve Kerr said. The Boston defense that blanketed him over the final three quarters of Game 1 had no answer for him in Game 2. In Game 1, Curry played his best in the first quarter. The 39–17 drubbing Miami clubbed Boston with in Game 1 of the conference finals. In Game 2, it was the third. Curry scored 14 points in the quarter. In Game 1 of the Finals, Golden State hit the Celtics with a 38–24 third quarter. This time, though, Boston couldn’t rally, allowing Golden State to even the series with a 107–88 win. There was the 34–17 blitz Milwaukee put on them in Game 3 of the conference semifinals.
