Through the first quarter, the Boston Celtics lead 33-22 over the Golden State Warriors. The Athletic has you covered with everything you need to know for ...
The Warriors are rattled. •44m ago Boston is 10 of 15 from the field with 12 points in the paint and 9 behind the line. We've seen this from the Warriors a couple of times now. •44m ago He’s in complete command of the game, balancing aggression with excellent early kickout passes to Boston’s shooters when the Warriors collapse. If the Warriors stop over helping on all these rotations before they even need to think about it, they can force Boston into a lot tougher shots. Six offensive rebounds, 13 second chance points for the Celtics already (with two Horford free throws to come). Total rebounds: 21-8 Celtics. The Warriors’ help defenders are being reactive instead of proactive, and that’s a death sentence when you’re also smaller than your opponent. Went to it at the 5:31 mark of this second quarter. They also have six offensive rebounds compared to three for Golden State (and the Celtics haven't had nearly as many chances there). But, as usual, sleep for a second against the Warriors and they're going to go on a run. Despite the Warriors getting completely outplayed, they're showing far more resolve than they did in Memphis and Dallas, when those teams got out to early leads.
The Celtics look to right the ship and embrace the comforts of home on Wednesday when they host Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.
If I can get in those one-on-one matchups and be able to play-make out of that and read the defense well, we can create a lot of good shots. Then when we have good offense and good shots, that helps our defense a lot. And Boston will try to rebound against a Golden State team that has won at least one road game in each of its last 26 playoff series, an NBA record run that began in 2013. The status of Celtics big man Robert Williams III could be something to watch after he was listed as questionable with left knee soreness. Right now, we're here playing a different opponent, a different team, and we've got to look at it as such. Unfortunately for Boston, it was done in by being outscored 35-14 in a disastrous third quarter on Sunday to see a modest halftime deficit balloon to 23 points.
For the Warriors, Andre Iguodala (right knee), Gary Payton II (left elbow), and Otto Porter (left foot) are all listed as questionable. James Wiseman remains ...
It'll especially give a massive morale boost if Golden State can give the Celtics their first back-to-back losses of the playoffs. Game 3 of the NBA Finals is here. The sooner the Warriors can steal home court back after that epic Game 1 collapse, the better.
