PAK vs WI, Live Updates: Imam-ul-Haq hit a fine half-century as he and Babar Azam kept Pakistan steady after Fakhar Zaman fell early.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat against West Indies in the second ODI of their three-match series in Multan on Friday. A century from Babar Azam -- his third in as many matches in the format -- powered Pakistan to a 5-wicket win in the first ODI at the same venue, and the hosts will be looking to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 2nd ODI. West Indies will look for an improved bowling performance, while their skipper Nicholas Pooran will also be hoping to make a bigger impact with the bat. They were powered to a score of 305/8 thanks to Shai Hope's magnificent century, but the bowlers failed to defend the total. PAK vs WI, 2nd ODI Live Updates: Babar Azam reached his half-century -- his sixth consecutive 50-plus score in ODIs -- but Pakistan lost Imam-ul-Haq soon after, as the opener was run out following a mix-up.

Mohammad Nawaz's four-wicket haul leads Pakistan to series win (ESPNcricinfo.com)

Pakistan 275 for 8 (Babar 77, Imam 72, Hosein 3-52) beatWest Indies 155 (Brooks 42, Nawaz 4-19, Wasim 3-34) by 120 runs. Mohammad Nawaz allayed any concerns ...

Each of them brought up half-centuries, the sixth consecutive fifties for each of them, and little appeared to stand in the way of them bringing up personal three-figure scores. The final ten overs saw the West Indian bowling at their best, putting pressure on Pakistan with clumps of dot balls thanks to some glorious execution, both in terms of line and length and changes of pace. But at the top, it was a similar pattern for Pakistan, with a struggling Fakhar falling for an unconvincing 28-ball 17 as Pakistan made a slow start in the face of accurate West Indian bowling. Mayers then smashed Mohammad Wasim for a couple of fours and Shaheen for six straight back over his head as the visitors put on 71 in the powerplay. It was followed by a stuttering of momentum and a collapse of the middle and lower order, once those two fell, leading Pakistan to stumble to 275. Mohammad Nawazallayed any concerns Pakistan might have had about posting a below-par total, producing the best bowling performance of his career to bundle West Indies out for 155.

Familiar comforts of another series win mask Pakistan's unresolved ... (ESPNcricinfo.com)

Babar and Imam continue scoring buckets of runs, and Shaheen continues to take new-ball wickets. But what about the rest?

And Pakistan continue to seal series win after series win; this is their fifth in six series since the 2019 World Cup. Babar and Imam still score buckets of runs, and Shaheen strikes with such regularity you could set your watch by it. The tempting arc to draw from here would be Nawaz becoming an integral part of Pakistan's ODI planning and preparation, but if that were to happen, it would be a fairly dramatic departure from how involved he has been thus far. And on the odd occasion, you might see something that counts as a bonus, like aKhushdil Shahcameo or a Mohammad Nawazmasterclass, as have happened in this series against West Indies. If you're really fortunate you might happen to have a ticket on the two out of ten days when everything is in Fakhar Zaman's strike zone. It is, of course, better for this series to be played than not, even if for the longest time it felt as if no one really wanted to play it if the ODI Super League hadn't forced them to. And if, in 2022, you queue up in the heat - as the Multan crowd has gamely done a couple of times this week - for a Pakistan ODI performance, it's not because of the tantalising hope that maybe, just maybe, this might be the day the middle order comes to life. It's what Pakistan sell, and it's what Pakistan deliver in this format at the moment.
