Labour last won the seat in 1935. National has held it since 2005. The 2022 candidates who also ran in 2020 are Act's Luxton who received the fourth-highest number of votes with 1739 or a little less than 4 per cent, and independent Lamare who received 63 votes. Early voting began on June 4. He previously told the Bay of Plenty Times he wanted to make Tauranga the best city in the country by 2030 and for the city to be New Zealand's technology capital. In the 2020 general election, National's Bridges won the seat with 18,721 or about 42 per cent of the votes. "A Department of Internal Affairs Report published in April this year confirmed that hate speech from white supremacists on social media is the largest form of hate speech in this country," Wilson said, adding that Tauranga was a hotspot. That includes social media posts. 7.51pm: 57.5% of the vote is counted now. 8.01pm: Uffindell now with 8,878 votes as 65% of the vote comes in. The target to release the official results for the Tauranga by-election is Friday 1 July. Has foreign policy commentary really devolved to the point where our diplomatic effort is being measured by how many overseas trips have been taken by our Foreign Minister? Weird, but apparently so. Voter turnout for the 2022 Tauranga by-election is estimated to be 40.6% of the 51,510 enrolled prior to election day.

"Coming into this campaign, that was my aim, to get this vote close to the 2017. And we also know in a by-election it's not an equal half that turns out.
