Maori All Blacks team named for Wednesday's clash with Ireland (Independent.ie)

Experienced Kiwi scrum-half TJ Perenara must make do with a place on the Maori All Blacks bench for Wednesday's opening game of the summer tour against ...

“Having Weber and Perenara as co-captains ensures there is always strong leadership on the field, especially against the unrelenting Ireland side. There is a first for brothers Zarn and Bailyn Sullivan to be named in the same team, with Zarn starting at fullback, and Bailyn providing back-line cover on the bench. Perenara was a surprise omission from the All Blacks Test squad, and although he would have seen the Maori game as a chance to prove a point to head coach Ian Foster, he will now have to do so off the bench.

Selecting the back three had also been difficult. But, me and TJ are playing this game infinitely. This is the biggest team I've had to play against for the Māori, so I'm excited, especially playing at [home ground] Hamilton too," he said.

Aki captains Ireland against Māori as Frawley starts at out-half (The42)

BUNDEE AKI HAS been named captain for Ireland's game against the Māori All Blacks on Wednesday [KO 8.05am Irish time, Sky Sports].

Jack Conan covers the back row, while Ulster’s Mike Lowry is in the number 23 shirt. Loughman, Dave Heffernan, and Tom O’Toole form the front row, McCarthy combines with Kieran Treadwell in the second row, and Prendergast teams up with Nick Timoney and Gavin Coombes in the back row. O’Brien makes up the back three with Jordan Larmour and Earls. The involvement of both Earls and Larmour is something of a surprise given that one of them was expected to start the first Test against the All Blacks after Mack Hansen’s positive Covid-19 test result. James Hume and Aki will pair up in an impactful Irish midfield for Wednesday’s game, while Frawley partners Craig Casey in the halfbacks. Frawley is one of five uncapped players who feature in the Ireland team, with fullback Jimmy O’Brien, back row Cian Prendergast, loosehead prop Jeremy Loughman, and second row Joe McCarthy also starting. Keith Earls also features on the left wing against the Māori, with Jordan Larmour on the right.

Maori All Blacks vs Ireland: Uncapped Irish players to be put to the test (The Irish Times)

Although Bundee Aki is set to captain what is effectively an Irish A side on his old Waikato Chiefs' stomping ground, both the Maori All Blacks and Ireland will ...

Touted as an All Black of the future, he could be in line to play with his 23-year-old brother Bailyn for the first time given the latter has been named among a potent-looking bench which also features the latter’s 21-year-old Hurricanes teammate Ruben Love. The Maoris also appear more match hardened than an Irish team featuring players who have had varying game time of late in what were disappointing ends to their provincial seasons. For that group, there’s not going to be any bigger game this year really, is there?” “I mean, let’s put it in context like. Not dissimilarly, Maori All Blacks head coach Clayton McMillan has named ten debutants in his side, albeit this still looks like a dynamic blend of experience and rising young talent, drawn entirely from in-form players with their five franchises in their Super Rugby Pacific competition. “It’s not a capped Test match but it’s damn near it, isn’t it?

Debutant and Kāpene Paheko (Co-Captain) TJ Perenara (Ngāti Rangitihi) will provide impact from the bench. “Chemist Warehouse is proud to partner with New Zealand Rugby as the naming rights partner for Māori All Blacks v Ireland series. “Having Weber and Perenara as co-captains ensures there is always strong leadership on the field, especially against the unrelenting Ireland side. All of Ireland's uncapped players start on Wednesday morning; Will Jordan added to list of All Blacks' Covid absentees.

I am sure that Joe is just fitting into the system. “This is the way of the world, isn’t it? The motto of the tour is definitely being adaptable. “So, the Test match boys are not training with the subs etc. We have one case and we could have a few more cases by the end of the week, we don’t know. It’s everything to these players who are taking to the field tomorrow.
