Andrew Gombas locked in his UFC 276 best bets for Jared Cannonier vs. Israel Adesanya and the rest of the fight card.

Visit SportsLine now to get detailed top picks on UFC 276, all from the insider who's up more than $10,000 on MMA picks the past two years, and find out. But the only other time the 27-year-old faced a ranked opponent, he was stopped by Marlon Vera, who now sits at No. 5 in the UFC rankings. Cannonier has received performance bonuses in three of his past six fights while exhibiting a combination of speed and power that has made him one of the most feared competitors in the division. Now, with UFC 276: Adesanya vs. Cannonier, 38, is a seven-year UFC veteran who was once 3-4 in the promotion and considered little more than a journeyman. Cannonier odds from Caesars Sportsbook. In the co-main event, featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (-190) takes on popular former titleholder Max Holloway (+170) in a trilogy fight. Adesanya is a -380 favorite (risk $380 to win $100), while Cannonier comes back at +310 in the latest UFC 276: Adesanya vs. Even so, the 32-year-old New Zealander appears to be peerless at middleweight at this point in his career and has vowed to take on all comers. You can only see Gombas' UFC 276 picks at SportsLine. Just three weeks ago at UFC 275, Gombas swept the board with his main-card picks and the five-fight sweep included telling SportsLine members to back Jake Matthews (+125) against Andre Fialho (-145) in a matchup of welterweight prospects. He started the MMA handicapping service MMA Knockout Bets in 2018 and has shown a profit every year since. But he has ignored skeptics and focused on giving a memorable performance against Cannonier, who is known for his athleticism and sinister striking.

The Irishman has gone 1-3 since 2016, including two losses in a row to Dustin Poirier last summer. He has returned to kicking drills and boxing sparring, but is still unable to engage in full MMA sessions at SBG Ireland's HQ yet. He’s full of s***. So, if he had the opportunity to listen to it, he probably would’ve went to McDonald’s. He went to Burger King. So, I get underneath his skin. Ferguson has had a bitter and long-standing feud with the Irishman since they were managed by the same company. He has been in Miami, New York, California, Dublin, Cannes, Rome and a host of other major cities, which would make it hard for a USADA representative to track him down as he continues to move around. And his long-time rival Tony Ferguson believes that it's because he has pulled out of the promotion's rigorous testing system, where fighters must update USADA of their whereabouts on a frequent basis.

His lone pro MMA loss was up in weight, for the UFC light heavyweight title against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 in March 2021. Adesanya kept Cannonier at bay and Cannonier had little to no luck getting inside Adesanya's length for strikes or takedowns. The Nigerian-born New Zealand resident was coming off a unanimous decision win over rival Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 in February. Coming in, ESPN had Adesanya ranked No. 3 in the world on its pound-for-pound list. The crowd grew restless with the lack of thrilling action, especially in the fourth round, which was marked by boos and fans holding up lit-up smartphones. Adesanya's superiority in striking was evident throughout the bout.

Adesanya's special praise for 'excellent' rival as Kiwi champ makes it ... (Fox Sports)

The UFC's middleweight champion Israel Adesanya said earlier in the week that he wanted to get back to finishing fights “in style”.

It was more of the same for Adesanya in the fourth – and why not – it had been working for him all fight and Cannonier had not really found any way to stop the jabs and leg kicks. Low kick and jab, low kick and jab – it was pretty straightforward stuff for the champion, keeping Cannonier at bay and almost forcing him to try something different in the hope it would lead to a mistake. And he did. He did land a flurry of short punches after inside though after getting Adesanya to the cage but again was unable to capitalise or turn it into a momentum-shifting moment in the fight. Adesanya did not necessarily have to do a whole lot to stay in control of the fight, knowing that as long as he kept his distance and used his superior speed, Cannonier would be bound to falter at some point. The fight was stopped for a brief period after Adesanya accidentally poked Cannonier in the eye but unlike the earlier contest between Sean O’Malley and Pedro Munhoz, he was fine to continue.

Cerrone beat Miller in their first meeting in 2014, but Cerrone is now 4-10 since 2016 with a seven-fight winless streak. Bryan Barbarena also stopped Robbie Lawler on strikes late in the second round of a brutal fight in which both veterans absorbed tremendous punishment. Before the title fights, Alex Pereira demolished Sean Strickland with strikes midway through the first round of a victory that burnished the Brazilian kickboxing champion's status as an immediate title contender at middleweight. Holloway's answers dwindled as his cuts grew larger, and Volkanovski patiently racked up scoring shots to leave no doubt in the decision. Cannonier, getting his first UFC title shot at 38 years old, struggled to find a consistent striking range, and he didn't show enough desperation to figure it out. Volkanovski executed a sharp boxing game plan against one of the UFC's best punchers, bloodying Holloway's face early on and steadily increasing the punishment into the final minutes.

UFC 276 takeaways -- Volkanovski in a league of his own ... (ESPN)

UFC 276 was another showcase for not only Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski, but a number of rising stars as well.

He used his technique to lock in Riddell and squeeze him into a guillotine to make him tap. In his postfight interview, Pereira asked the crowd here to cheer for Adesanya in the night's main event. I loved how he hurt Riddell early, knew that he had him in trouble and clearly knew what to do next. His defense, while not great, looked improved from his previous fights as Green was able to touch him up, forcing Garry to scramble and reset. Most fighters of his MMA experience level are toiling on the regional scene or jockeying to earn a berth on Dana White's Contender Series. Pereira? He might have just secured a UFC title shot. He beat Andreas Michailidis and Bruno Silva in his first two UFC bouts. I just don't think anyone in the sport is quite at his level at the moment. The Brazilian striker, who trains under former UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira, was one of the best kickboxers in the world for several years, a former two-division Glory champion. There had been no wrong answer to the question: Who is the best fighter on the planet? Two great champions who belong in the top three pound-for-pound rankings, both believing the other has double-champ status in their destiny. In addition to the work he's done with Trevor Wittman to refine his striking, Usman is a wonderful fighter. For the past year or so, to me, the debate between the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world has been between Kamaru Usman, Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski. And of course, it's close, right?

With the victory, Adesanya improved his record to 23-1 and remains unbeaten at middleweight. The initiators – the jabs, the leg kicks – they were working, but I couldn't find my power shots.

But McGregor also has not won a lightweight fight since 2016 and is 1-3 at the weight in his UFC career. A win for either man is massive and another accomplishment in a truly great career. While Pereira is an elite enough talent to warrant being signed on his own, his two kickboxing wins over Adesanya, one by brutal knockout, have been the underlying story every time he has fought in the Octagon. What Pereira needed to be "deserving" of a shot at Adesanya in the Octagon was an elite win. A reputation for safe gameplans and fights that lack in entertainment value has begun to creep into conversations about Adesanya's place in the sport. Subscribe to Morning Kombat with Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell for the best analysis and in-depth news, including instant analysis of UFC 276 at the conclusion of the PPV event. While Alexander Volkanovski put on an incredible show of dominance in retaining his featherweight championship against Max Holloway in their trilogy fight, middleweight champion Israel Adesanya left the fans somewhat disappointed after a safe and uninspired victory over Jared Cannonier.

The challenger was enjoying his best spell to date but a combination of Volkanovski's timing and his own cut eye continued to cause him trouble. The challenger answered back with the same shot but continued to play second fiddle as his cut reopened. The challenger struggled with Volkanovski's speed from the opening round and was unable to stamp his authority on the co-main event.

Adesanya calls for man who beat him twice in kickboxing next (New Zealand Herald)

Just moments removed from his UFC middleweight title defence against Jared Cannonier on Sunday, Israel Adesanya's next challenge was all but set.

"It's nice at the top, so whatever he feels he needs to do to make me fight... I was critical because I couldn't get my power stuff going; I couldn't get my change-ups going, but he's a formidable opponent. I do that, but I'm not going to do it stupidly just for the entertainment of some drunkos." I'm not here to risk my health and risk my brain. The situation at UFC 276 was a win-win looking ahead, as Adesanya said either Pereira or Strickland would be big money fights. "I like the story.

Why Conor McGregor could hold the key to answering big Volkanovski mystery.

And I think the lightweight guys still feel that. To think I don’t deserve to just move straight up [and compete for the title] would be pretty silly.” And I always wanted to challenge you.” It’s a different division but I’m here, I’m the champ.” “If I’m going to choose, I’m choosing Conor. The UFC hasn’t told me anything yet. So, that’s the difficulty.” Look, I got middleweights and light heavyweights that feel it.” I want to move up and go for double champ and I’ll keep two divisions busy. Who has really looked like that against someone like Max Holloway? “I just proved to you that I want to be in this octagon as much as possible. I want to fight by the end of the year, but if it’s at the end of the year, really, I would prefer to fight in January in Brazil, if that event happens.” I’m a dominant champ taking out guys like Max Holloway three times.

WATCH: UFC fighter walks out to the Undertaker theme (The Indian Express)

32-year old Israel Adesanya used the elaborate entrance in his middleweight title bout at UFC 276.

And with the WWE execs in attendance, there could never have been a more appropriate time to walk out on the ‘dead man’s’ theme. The urn, the champion walked in with, had Cannonier’s name written on it. In UFC 243, as he took on Robert Whittaker, in the Australian’s own backyard, and he danced his way into the arena.

Adesanya's UFC title reign still lacks something special (WOKV)

“I like to put on a show,” Adesanya said of the pageantry. Adesanya wants it all, and he has one of the biggest personalities in the sport. I hope when we fight, he does a better fight than that. I don’t melt.” “I thrive. Adesanya has earned one stoppage victory in his five title defenses while doing nothing that would put him in front of everyone on a social network for days. “The greats all get to this point," Adesanya added. Instead, he grinded out a comfortable win, picking apart Cannonier from a distance in another point-fighting performance. He fought Cannonier with a French tip manicure and sparkly polish on his toenails. That style can win belts, but it rarely wins legions of fans outside of hard-core fight circles. With his gravity-defying athleticism, he is among the few MMA fighters who can create them solely from his own talent. "Anderson Silva, GSP (Georges St. Pierre), I’d see them and say, ‘That was a fantastic fight,’ and people would boo them.

Alexander Volkanovski defeated Max Holloway for the third time Saturday night, defending his featherweight title by unanimous decision with a dominant ...

The 38-year-old Miller's landmark victory broke his tie with Cerrone and Andrei Arlovski for the UFC's career wins mark. Cerrone beat Miller in their first meeting in 2014, but Cerrone is now 4-10 since 2016 with a seven-fight winless streak. Bryan Barberena also stopped Robbie Lawler on strikes late in the second round of a brutal fight in which both veterans absorbed tremendous punishment. Before the title fights, Alex Pereira demolished Sean Strickland with strikes midway through the first round of a victory that burnished the Brazilian kickboxing champion's status as an immediate title contender at middleweight. "He thinks he's got what it takes," Volkanovski said of Cejudo. "People want to challenge me, but they need to be big fights. There was a lot of ups and downs in there, but it was good to finally put an end to it and silence a lot of people. Cannonier, getting his first UFC title shot at 38 years old, struggled to find a consistent striking range, and he didn't show enough desperation to figure it out. "It's a bit of a journey, this rivalry," Volkanovski said. Volkanovski executed a sharp boxing game plan against one of the UFC's best punchers, bloodying Holloway's face early on and steadily increasing the punishment into the final minutes. It makes me improve my discipline." He makes me raise the bar. A lot of people that needed shutting up."

It was so serious he had to be treated in hospital after the fight. He's on the record as saying he wants to headline a UFC card held in Australia, and the ideal way for him to do that would be to get a crack at his ambition of holding belts in two weight divisions at the same time. But that wasn't the only similarity to the Aussie's sketch - Holloway was also left with a smaller cut under his right eye, a bloodied mouth, and a wound on the right side of his forehead, just as predicted. The finished product showed Holloway with a series of stitches above his blackened left eye, a cut under his right eye, fat lips and another cut on the right side of his forehead - and it was very close to the mark. Volkanovski and other stars on the card were asked to sketch their opponents before the event kicked off in a 'putting the art in martial artist' promotion for the UFC - and he hit the nail on the head with his drawing. - Revealed after the fight that he broke his left hand in the second round
