Heavy rain warning: Drivers in Marlborough advised to stay off the ... (Stuff.co.nz)

East Coast settlements such as Ward, Seddon, Rarangi and Port Underwood were likely to receive significant rainfall. We will keep you updated,” Interislander said on its website. Seddon resident Kate Shadbolt was in the queue. The council's daily rain report, at 8.30am on Tuesday, showed there had been more than 57mm of rain at Kenepuru head, 49mm in Onamalutu and more than 40mm in Rarangi. The co-location of Marlborough Boys' and Girls' colleges will be the biggest capital expenditure project ever for the Ministry of Education, and the Picton terminal needs to be redeveloped for new ferries by 2025. Marlborough Emergency Management was keeping a close eye on the forecast and key agencies including the council, Waka Kotahi, Marlborough Roads, Police and Fire and Emergency were making plans in case roads had to be closed due to flooding or slips. Streams and rivers were expected to rise rapidly, particularly on the east coast. The Marlborough District Council had advised motorists to stay off the roads on Tuesday if possible, and to not drive through floodwater. Wilson said when she got through earlier a “little car” was stuck in flood water on SH1, near the Awatere junction, and had to be towed out. “I was on my way across Redwood Pass Rd and came across that flood [at Toe Toe Creek]. So that's as far as I was able to go, I've had to turn around and go up the highway to Seddon, and I'll come in from the other end.” Ward resident Kiri McDermott was in the car with Shadbolt. They went to the same Awatere pony club, and were worried about their horses at home. A rural postie in Marlborough was determined to make her deliveries on Tuesday morning, but that was before flooding closed the main highway south.

The ramp bridge that connects Union Park Avenue to westbound Interstate 215 will closed for two weeks, state transportation officials said on Monday.

Anyone who planned on using driving through on Monday or Tuesday nights will have to use other routes, such as state Routes 14, 20 and 59, or U.S. 89, park officials said. That's not the only new roadwork set to begin or underway in the state. The team will also lay down a thin layer of pavement across the bridge's driving surface so moisture won't seep into the concrete in the future, agency officials said.

Wild weather: Power outages, road closures and heavy snowfall (RNZ)

A front of wild weather hit the country on Tuesday, causing power outages, closing some roads and preventing some from flushing their toilet.

Police said one tramper was on land and the other two were on a rock in the middle of the river. In Dunedin, the Lindsay Creek channel in North East Valley and Water of Leith channel were expected to remain contained. The council's drainage networks in West and East Taieri and Tokomairiro were expected to flow quite full, she said. Three people, two teenagers and an adult, were near the base of the Tuahu track in the Manawaru area. The regional council said the Selwyn River was rising to high flood levels and was expected to peak after dark. Some trampers were rescued after two got stuck on a rock in a fast-moving river in the Waikato Region this morning, amid heavy rain and wild weather. Canterbury was drenched by heavy rain, with flooding closing a number of roads across the region and in Christchurch city. In Seddon, a small stream burst its banks and broke a sewer pipe, causing the sewer network to fill up with flood water. Rooney said sewer overflows had occurred at in the gully traps at a number of residential properties and also at controlled points along the network. Heavy rainfall in Blenheim and a burst sewer pipe in Seddon put pressure on the sewerage network in Marlborough. Heavy rain and strong wind warnings were in place for much of the country today. Flights were cancelled, hundreds of homes lost power, and roads were closed due to slips, fallen trees and flooding across the country on Tuesday.

Storm brings flooding, power outages and slips across NZ (Stuff.co.nz)

The wet, wild weather that's brought flooding, felled trees, road closures, and flight cancellations around the country should ease up on Wednesday.

The Lindis Pass closure was expected to remain in place overnight with an update on Wednesday morning. Full road closures were also in place for Palatine Tce and Alport Place. Christchurch City Council said it was expected that high tide would cause flooding on roads around the Heathcote river area until the tide went out. Parts of SH2 north of Masterton were also closed due to flooding. State Highway 1 was also closed between Orewa and Warkworth due to fallen trees. And those articles are free. Flooding also closed road closures to SH25 between Hikuai and Tairua and between Wharekaho and Kuaotunu in Coromandel.
