So, I just hope that I get to have scenes with all of them again. Like, I get to work with Juliette Lewis, I get to work with Tawny Cypress, I get to work with Christina Ricci, I get to work with Warren Kole and Sarah Desjardins, I get to work with Peter Gadiot," Lynskey said of what excites her the most about Season 2. And so, that's the main thing I wanna do when we get back to Vancouver is sit down with Sophie after we've read the first script and have a talk and just, you know, do it the way we've been doing it 'cause I felt like it worked." The first-time Emmy nominee talks the long-awaited recognition, a decades-old call with Kate Winslet, and Yellowjackets season two.
She was saying “Yay!” because he was saying “Yay!” [Laughs] He said, “Come and tell mama what I told you to say.” And she said, “Mama got Emmy,” or something. We've all been doing this a long time, and it just feels really nice to be on something that people are watching and responding to. So I just got a bunch of texts and my publicist texted me, and my friend Nick Davis texted me, and then it all just started coming in. We're all so grateful to be on a show that's getting a season two, honestly. I want someone to get a text, and if it doesn’t happen, then I want to be able to sleep in. She was watching Curious George and he was watching the nomination announcements. I was like, “No.” She had been coached on what to say, but she didn't know what she was saying. Honestly, I didn't really breathe until I saw that Christina had been nominated. I’ve always heard of people sleeping through and I was like, “Bullshit! Wake up and watch it happen.” And then I just couldn’t. I was like, I don't really want to see that unfold. “I’ve always heard of people sleeping through and I was like, ‘Bullshit! Wake up and watch it happen,’” she says. I remember years ago, calling Kate Winslet the first time she got nominated for an Oscar [for 1995’s Sense and Sensibility], I was like, “Oh my God.” She was explaining, “I’ve had to do all these interviews!” And it just sounded like such a crazy, exciting day. I’m just like, “Oh gosh, this is one of those days.” I’ve never had this.

I felt empowered to be an interesting person, a sexual person and a messy person and like I could be fully myself. I look at my little daughter as such a free spirit, and I want her to feel the same freedom that I did when she becomes a teenager. And I remember as a teenager in the ’90s, the people I loved, the people I was obsessed with, were, like, PJ Harvey and Courtney Love and Kim Deal. And Naomi Wolf. I read “The Beauty Myth” and I was like, “Yes!!” And I just felt like we were taking the power back, there was this new wave of feminism that I felt very much a part of. All that kind of stuff was so interesting to me, to see how much she longs to have that time back and how much she wishes she got to have an actual youth. Tonight, I made a plan with my friend Maggie Lawson because I needed a plan that I would be glad to be doing if I got nominated for an Emmy or not. So the old ladies have one and then the younger ones have one. But it’s just really nice to read the scripts and everybody’s so complex, everybody’s so interesting and dynamic. And to me, I feel like Sophie kind of created Shauna, and I just ran with it. I decided to just sleep and I thought: Either I’ll get woken up by a lot of texts or I won’t. So, Jason [Ritter, my husband] got up with our daughter and then I got woken up by a lot of texts. I’m trying to get better at that stuff, talking about my feelings and what she just represses and represses. Because I know people are watching and people are paying attention, and it just feels really gratifying. Shifting between 1996 and the present, “Yellowjackets” follows members of New Jersey’s state champion girls’ high school soccer team as they struggle to survive in a remote Canadian wilderness after their plane crashes en route to a championship game in Seattle.

I can’t really be my full self in this relationship.” And then he’s like, “I’ve actually known everything this whole time.” It’s kind of like they’re meeting each other for the first time, and falling in love again, so I’m excited for all that stuff. But I’m just happy to get to be in the room with everybody. Because you want to be specific, and I want to help people write a good article, and I want to give answers. And sometimes I’ll be like “God I’m in a scene with Juliette Lewis,” and she just is magnetic, and she’s electric, and I love working with her too. We’re part of something that people like, and people are talking about, and people want to talk to us about.” And certainly, I’m so thrilled for Christina for the Supporting nomination. Honestly, I feel so lucky to be working with this group of writers who surprise me all the time. The other day, I heard they’re on Episode 7 or something in the writers room, and I was like, “Can I read one? Oh my God, I hope not because I’m terrible with that kind of thing. Like “Togetherness” I just loved so much, and I loved playing that character. Another interesting aspect of the show, and a unique thing about the ensemble for the present day portion, is that you all have been acting most of your lives. Does the show and this nomination maybe bring you all a burst of enthusiasm? And all it took was a traumatic plane crash, an unplanned pregnancy, over a year in the wilderness, and years later, a sprinkle of murder and mystery.
