The Springboks v Wales Test series comes down to the decider: Updates and all the news from Cape Town.

"We pointed out from the outset of the series that Wales will be desperate - and they showed that in the last two weeks. It is difficult to compare, apples and pears, but in the same breath it’s all intertwined because they sacrifice a lot for what you do as well.” Now it is a matter of going out there and doing the game justice.” This will be the 40th Test match between the two countries, with South Africa having won 31 of them, amid seven Welsh victories and a draw. It is not just that moment in time, it’s what you have worked for as a kid, with all those sessions you have done that nobody has seen. “It does hurt, I am not going to lie,” said the 34-year-old, who made 18 tackles during last weekend’s victory in Bloemfontein. “That is what I have been picked for over the years, to try and be physical. I have been sore for a few days after that Test last weekend but if we had lost, I would have been a lot more sore. I am probably going to have to go a lot harder again this weekend because they will be seething after that loss. Wales have been forced into a late change with last weekend's match-winner Gareth Anscombe withdrawing from the third Test series decider. We have got ourselves in this opportunity now, so we are just after a big 80 minutes to try and capitalise and finish off on a pretty positive tour. We look back on the first Test and we threw that one away, let’s be honest. There has been another late change to the Wales line-up, with No 8 Taulupe Faletau ruled out.

Wales dream dashed as South Africa rediscover form in Cape Town ... (The Guardian)

Biggar kicked a penalty seven minutes before half-time, but South Africa then struck from a close-range lineout, driving Wales defenders backwards before Mbonambi touched down to mark his 50th cap in style. The Springboks’ head coach, Jacques Nienaber, recalled eight of South Africa’s 2019 World Cup-winning team after Wales levelled the series with a historic first away win over South Africa seven days ago. Wales’ penalty count quickly mounted up, conceding eight in the first 25 minutes, yet South Africa only held a 10-5 lead, which seemed scant reward for their territorial dominance.

A late replacement for Faletau, Navidi was solid at the back of the scrum. The Springbok maul is difficult to stop, but Beard generally did a good job. Didn’t kick quite as brilliantly as the last two weeks, but a good performance. Was rightfully substituted to give the brilliant Lake a full half. It may only be Reffell’s third cap, but it feels like his first try has been a long time coming. Somehow he appears to be getting better with every game, looking comfortable ruffling a few Springbok feathers. Made two huge breaks in the lead-up to Reffell’s try and was rock solid in defence. Gave away a lot of penalties. Made two huge errors in running the ball from his own line and over-folding for Kolisi’s try. Chased kicks well and made a few huge hits. Dropped his first high ball but soon atoned for his error with a few good takes. Excellent in the midfield today.

A win for the south! Springboks hold off Wales for series victory (New Zealand Herald)

South Africa held off Wales 30-14 in the third test to clinch their series 2-1.

The Springboks have back-to-back home tests next month against the All Blacks, who are stinging from their 2-1 series loss to Ireland. "In that last 20-25 minutes they squeezed us and we couldn't get a foothold in the game," Biggar said. "I think it's exactly what we needed to start our season." Kolisi burst over in the 53rd after the Springboks wore the Welsh down by sending their big ball carriers at the opposition off a series of rucks. "Even though we had a couple of chances, against a top team like this you've got to take them. But the world champions relied on their power game to get it done as both teams had to adjust to early injuries.
