Flights would leave Auckland, then cross the Tasman to Sydney, before heading on to Malaysia’s capital. AirAsia X Will Return To Perth, Melbourne & Auckland In November (Simple Flying)

AirAsia X has confirmed it will return to Melbourne Tullamarine, Perth, and Auckland (via Sydney) three times a week from November 1.

Luring AirAsia X back from Melbourne's Avalon Airport is a coup for Tullamarine Airport but no huge surprise. That means you have a breakfast time departure out of Melbourne on Wednesday and Sunday and a passenger-friendly daytime service up to Kuala Lumpur, while the Friday departure leaves just after midnight and arrives into KUL just before breakfast time. From November 1, AirAsia X flight D7288 will push back from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings for a mid-morning arrival in Sydney the following day. From November 1, AirAsia X will send its Airbus A330-300s to Perth (PER), Melbourne (MEL), and Auckland (AKL) three times a week. Down to Perth, departures out of Kuala Lumpur on Fridays and Sundays leave just after midnight while Monday's departure is at a civilized mid-morning time. Those Auckland flights will operate via Sydney, and after defecting to Melbourne's Avalon Airport in 2018, AirAsia X is heading back to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport.

New airline offers Kiwis lie-flat beds for less than $500 (Stuff.co.nz)

Air Asia X has one of the cheapest lie-flat beds in the sky, and it's coming to New Zealand later this year.

AirAsia X first flew to Christchurch in April 2011, months after the city’s devastating earthquake. It is also looking to lease an extra four aircraft, bringing the fleet to 15 by early next year. AirAsia X has 11 A330-300 aircraft, which it hopes will all be back in the air by October 2022. Ismail said the airline isn’t trying to mimic the traditional business class but rather create its own take on luxury. This time, the airline has adopted a different strategy and is targeting the busiest trans-Tasman route, Auckland to Sydney. Ismail said the airline is in “a much better position” to take advantage of pent-up demand after Covid and do well this time. Air Asia X Chief Executive Benyamin Ismail expects the lie-flat beds to be “very popular” as a low-cost option to experience the thrill of lying down in the sky.
