The Block NZ is back, like Heartbreak Island without the bikinis (Stuff.co.nz)

Review: It's the same but different from the nation's favourite reno show, from mud baths to amateur project management.

And then it’s on to the build. Stacy is thinking Quinn and Ben1 better not get too comfy in house one. Chloe and Quinn are already buying test pots and collecting paint chips. Someone swallows a gallon of ecoli (probably), and then Ben2 and Chloe win. This time, they have to wade into some muck, grab sand bags and smash opposing teams’ promo shots out of some frames. They were from the Firehouse season, and have spent the time since doing up their own home, getting married and getting a new dog. I’m pretty sure they have a similar challenge on Heartbreak Island, except with more bikinis and crying. The challenges are never have anything to do with DIY, they’re just ways to humiliate the contestants. Could have been awkward, but turns out to be like one of those parents’ group wine nights, sans wine, where everyone hugs and stands in a circle talking at each other about their children. Stacy is incandescent. They have tiny backyards and pokey windows. Stacy and Adam Middleton are first.
