Report: Manchester City And Brighton Can't Agree On Fee For Marc ... (Sports Illustrated)

Manchester City's interest in Marc Cucurella is well established at this point, but it appears the Sky Blues are still no closer to securing their target.

Instead, City see Cucurella's true value to be around £30million and 'will not pursue a move' for the Spaniard unless Brighton accept a lower offer. Given his impressive performances and the fact he still has four years left on his contract, Brighton are set to demand a high fee for the fullback. With the Cityzens likely to sell Oleksandr Zinchenko, the club need a new left-back.

Having been linked with a move away from Manchester City for months, it appears a deal to take Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal is all but complete.

It will be interesting to see whether the Sky Blues opt to meet Brighton's valuation of Cucurella, or move for a cheaper option such as Stuttgart's Borna Sosa. However, the left-back is understood to have a desire to secure more game-time at this stage of his career, meaning an exit from City was always likely this summer. It has become clear this window that City are keen to find an upgrade on the Ukraine international, with the club being long-term admirers of Brighton's Marc Cucurella.

Gallery: City get pre-season off to a winning start (Manchester City FC)

A Kevin De Bruyne brace was enough to earn Pep Guardiola's men a hard-fought victory over Mexican side Club America at Houston's NRH Stadium.

It could’ve been three soon after the restart when Julian Alvarez won the ball back deep in the Club America half, but Grealish was denied in a one-on-one situation. This time, our skipper latched onto a cleverly disguised pass from Riyad Mahrez before slotting home through the legs of substitute goalkeeper Oscar Jimenez. In a first half of few chances, it was a moment of typical brilliance from the Belgian which broke the deadlock on the half hour.

Ruben Dias has been unwell, although should return for the friendly against Bayern Munich, while John Stones is with the Under 23s in Croatia and Aymeric Laporte was left at home injured. Perhaps that will serve him well for the months to come. Grealish showed purpose, dropping into dangerous pockets, but could not escape rough treatment – some of which the broadcaster inside the NRG refused to show on the big screen. Kevin De Bruyne picked up from where he left off. The referee, Armando Villarreal, certainly knew of his existence, with the pair often deep in conversation about penalty appeals. This friendly might have been thousands of miles away from Manchester but Jack Grealish must have felt right at home.

The first strike was one of typical individual brilliance as he curled in a right-footer from the edge of the box. Jack Grealish still feels like a relatively new kid on the City block despite now entering his second season at the Etihad - and there's no doubt it's a big campaign for last summer's record-breaking arrival. City are short of options at the back and their problems mounted when Ruben Dias was consigned to his hotel room on the day before the game after feeling unwell. Afterwards, Guardiola was beaming when asked to comment on how he felt the new players did, and in Alvarez it feels he has someone who can fit right into his well-oiled machine. The £51m summer arrival from Borussia Dortmund was briefly shown on the big screen at the NRG Stadium wearing a City tracksuit rather than his match kit, which confirmed that Pep Guardiola never intended to give him any game time here. Manchester City remain keen to sign Brighton's Marc Cucurella but the two clubs are £20 million apart, sources have told ESPN.

But sources have said that the club will not pay beyond their valuation of Cucurella simply to get the deal done, having previously walked away from deals for players such as Harry Maguire, Fred and Alexis Sanchez when the cost of the transfer was deemed too high. City will be almost £60m in profit from their summer transfer dealings when Zinchenko seals his move to Arsenal, despite adding Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez to the squad since the end of last season.
