LPGA Power Rankings: Minjee Lee knocks Jin Young Ko from No. 1 (Just Women's Sports)

Minjee Lee overtakes Jin Young Ko at the top of the LPGA power rankings for the first time this season, while In Gee Chun earns a spot.

Because of her success in South Korea, however, she has made major starts on the LPGA Tour before this year. After missing the cut at the LOTTE Championship in April, the Japanese star started working with a new coach and has turned her season around. Thompson’s runner-up finish at the PGA Championship was her fourth at a major, and came after she squandered a two-stroke lead to Chun on the final three holes. Instead, she’ll have to wait for her opportunity at major redemption when she tees off at the AIG Women’s Open. Chun followed it up with a three-under 69 in the second round, giving her a six-shot cushion entering the weekend. Henderson has since turned her season around, finishing within the top 16 in her last four starts. Henderson’s victory at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club completed a boomerang of a season for Canada’s winningest golfer. The 13-time winner went 10 starts between her wins at the 2020 CME Group Tour Championship and 2021 Volunteers of America Classic. Kupcho has won two of her last three tournaments, raising trophies in back-to-back LPGA starts in Michigan for the most titles on tour so far in 2022. The Australian is now second in the Rolex World Rankings and has an opportunity to be the first player to knock Jin Young Ko off her No. 1 perch since Nelly Korda in 2021. “In the end, I think it really calmed us down to have each other by our sides,” Kupcho said at her victory press conference. Lee nearly won back-to-back majors, if not for In Gee Chun’s four-foot putt on the 18th hole to secure the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship title.

Opinion | Swetha Sathish sets her sights on LPGA's heights (TheSpec.com)

The 14-year-old Oakville golfer who plays out of Hidden Lake Golf and Country Club in Burlington won the Golf Ontario Junior Girls U-19 championship last week.

“I love the challenge of golf because a lot of it is based on how your mental game is,” she says. She may only be 14 but she has the maturity of someone who is 18 or 19.” The odds against are about 17 million to one. I was able to recover from bad shots pretty quickly and if I had a bad hole my mindset was still strong and I was able to maintain the lead through the whole tournament.” A real rarity at St. Catharines G&CC this week. “That’s definitely one of the strengths of her game,” he says.

Dual-sport star Keating has Olympic hockey and LPGA dreams (Tbnewswatch.com)

THUNDER BAY – At some point in the very near future, Reese Keating may have a pretty tough decision to make – golf or hockey.

She’s up at 6, on the ice at 6:30, off the ice at 8, in school by 8:45 until 3, then to the golf course, back for goalie skate, than eat then study until 10:30 or 11 and do it again. I just went out there and played, and played better than I expected to,” Keating said of her performance in Manitoba last week. “I’m really excited to try to do both,” she said. “At first I was shocked, and then I was very nervous, but I’m very excited to get the opportunity.” “It would be a lot, but I would prefer to do both than just pick one.” “Yeah,” agreed Reese, a graduate of the Thunder Bay Queens program and a straight A student in the classroom.

She also had six birdies on the day to go with a single bogey at No. 8. After starting on No. 10, Henderson closed her round with a long eagle putt at No. 9. Korda was bogey-free on Thursday, choosing to wade into the water at No. 18 to secure a clutch up-and-down with her ball at the edge of the hazard. Major champions Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson are tied for second at 7 under with matching 64s.

Evian Championship leaderboard: Who's leading after Round 1 (Golf.com)

Ayaka Furue shot an eight-under 63 to take a one-stroke lead over Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson after the Evian Championship first round.

“I just feel like it’s a really great feeling to start the major championship with a solid round. “I had just bogeyed the previous hole and it was a super long putt and it was going pretty hard. “The eagle on the last hole was definitely a bonus,” she said. What were you working on to prepare for this week?” Buckle up, Ayaka Furue. A who’s who of women’s golf — Nelly Korda, Brooke Henderson, Jin Young Ko and Lydia Ko, among others — is lurking behind you, and 54 holes are ahead at the Evian Championship. Then again, maybe it’s them who should be concerned. Korda, in her fifth event since her return from blood clot surgery, shot a bogey-free 64.
