Stratford hockey team through to final (New Zealand Herald)

Four tidy goals came from Josh Bland, Brayden Sharp, David Jackson and Anthony Boyder to complete a great win for Broadway to head into the finals this weekend.

The game ended in a 1-all draw, meaning the team ended up fifth equal. Then, capitalising on a small error, NPOB levelled the score. The intensity was sparking in all directions but with everyone putting in the hard yards, no one seemed to be able to score. Going into halftime 0-0 both teams were out to be first to score and it eventually came Broadway's way. Stratford dominated the opening stanza. A true team effort was on display.

The XFL is returning next year — and it's coming back to Washington (The Washington Post)

The XFL announced the eight cities that will host teams in 2023, and Washington is among them.

In 2020, the XFL had teams in the New York, Los Angeles and Tampa areas, but they had lackluster attendance. Next year will mark the first season of XFL action in San Antonio, and the league will return to the Las Vegas and Orlando regions, where the original XFL had teams in 2001. The next month, the league filed for bankruptcy and sought a sale. In February 2020, the DC Defenders hosted the first game of XFL 2.0, providing an alternative for the dwindling fan base of Washington’s NFL franchise. Kaiss coached with Barlow at Alabama State. Hutchins, selected in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL draft, played defensive back for the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans. The league announced several coaching and front-office positions for each team in June, but it didn’t specify where each group would coach.

Paradox Mindset: The Source of Remarkable Creativity in Teams (INSEAD Knowledge)

Each team was then randomly primed for one of four different conditions: paradoxical framing with high or low (control) epistemic motivation, and low or high ...

Just as in the first study, we found that teams in the paradoxical frame-high epistemic motivation condition were significantly more creative and able to balance novelty and usefulness better than other teams. Teams in the control group were instructed to simply review their various perspectives and ideas without recognising and embracing their contradictions. In short, they were primed to scrutinise their contradictory ideas and perspectives. Ensure that we consider all the interests, all the competing elements. Teams in the control condition were not told that they would be interviewed about their strategies. Their products were assessed by two independent judges as more novel and useful than the other teams, who tended to focus on novelty or usefulness, and to settle for subpar compromises. When teams adopt paradoxical frames, we hypothesised, they collectively recognise the contradictions inherent in the task at hand, yet understand that the contradictions could feed off each other to the team’s benefit. We theorised that, to be really creative, the paradox mindset must go hand in hand with what we call epistemic motivation. Each team was then randomly primed for one of four different conditions: paradoxical framing with high or low (control) epistemic motivation, and low or high epistemic motivation without paradoxical framing. Put simply, team members must be motivated to thoroughly understand the task and their competing perspectives and demands, as well as how these are interconnected, and then integrate their ideas in the best way possible. We showed that people who adopt paradoxical frames – or recognise and embrace the simultaneous existence of contradictory elements – could be very creative, even radically creative. In a new paper, we show how teams are more creative when members recognise and embrace differences, and systematically explore members’ opposing perspectives.

Customer service teams are a brand's best ambassadors (SmartBrief)

Ruby's Patti Crume explores how customer service teams can serve as brand ambassadors to embody your brand and build customer loyalty.

Remember: customer service teams are the ones who actually speak to customers. Across her 10 years at the company, Patti has built necessary process flows between customer marketing and service to tightly align their efforts and better reach and serve customers. By knowing the brand – and better yet, believing in it – customer service teams help earn customer trust and loyalty. This is why, like marketers, customer service teams need to know the brand (and product or service) so intimately that they become the only expert a customer needs to reach. The best representatives – and the best brand ambassadors – have values that align with the company’s, so by letting them be themselves, organizations naturally allow these representatives to embody the brand. And they can be a marketer’s greatest ally. Frontline staff should feel empowered to lean into their individual personalities, especially when it means empathizing with a customer and skipping canned responses. For customer service representatives, brand ambassadorship means acting as the human embodiment of the brand. Service reps should know – without having to go ask in the middle of a conversation. If not, then what are the other ways the company can meet the customer’s needs? This alleviates a customer’s concerns about whether they’re speaking to the right person. Frontline service employees are often a consumer’s first human interaction with a company.

Understanding Microsoft Teams Intelligent Cameras (Tom Talks Blog)

Microsoft introduced the “Intelligent Camera” concept in September 2021, and it got a call out at the recent Microsoft Inspire (July 2022).

Some cameras compose the people into a single video feed; others can output separate streams for truly separate video squares. Each OEM vendor has a different name for its version of the technology: Also, these cameras can use a separate video stream to deliver a panoramic view of the room, so remote participants have the full context of the space.

Microsoft Teams Improves Video Chat Functionality (Tech.co)

A Teams update, coming this month, should fix one of the platform's most frustrating features when it comes to video chats.

Still, it's not the best when it comes to ease of use, which Zoom and Google Meet both offer in droves. Given its managed by one of the largest companies in the world, the platform is privy to frequent updates in service of a more efficient and productive experience. In a world filled with remote employees and hybrid work policies, finding a platform that can help your business run smoothly and efficiently is key. According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, which lists new updates to a variety of Microsoft services, Microsoft Teams is adding a new feature that will allow users to more effectively turn on or turn off their cameras when in meetings. The feature will be available by the end of this month, according to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, and will be available for all desktop users of Microsoft Teams. That does mean Teams app users will be out of luck, but with the frequent updates coming through, it's safe to say something might be on the horizon.
