At this time revenge porn laws had not been created, and he even mocked the cease and desist letters that were sent to him. Netflix says: “Hunter Moore was the most hated man on the internet – that is, until his online presence saw its day of reckoning. This meant if someone, such as a potential employer, Googled that woman then this could come up. He wrote most of it while the events were still happening and finished it in prison. The self-proclaimed “professional life ruiner” is the subject of the new documentary, and the story is as troubling as it is vindicating.

Moore was sentenced to time behind bars — followed by three years of supervised release — but has completed his sentence.

“I’m still contacted by women every day and I expect that number to rise when the Netflix show is broadcast,” she told the Daily Mail. “I’m just a mum who defended her daughter, but I will make it my mission to defend anyone’s daughter.” And while Moore initially agreed to take part in the docuseries, he subsequently backed out. A little over a year later, Moore entered into a plea deal, under which he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $2,000 fine. He was also required to notify of his probation officer of “every computer, computer-related device, screen name, password, e-mail account or ISP” he used or created during his three years of supervised release, according to his plea deal (which VICE shared in 2015). The site launched in 2010, and was only live for about two years, but had an outsize impact — both for its victims, and its founder. The site didn’t require that those featured in the images had consented to sharing them; often, the images were submitted by the subjects’ exes, who had received the pictures in confidence — hence why the the site became famous as a destination for revenge porn.

The mom took her findings to the FBI, and through an investigation, law enforcement found that Moore did have an accomplice who he paid to hack women's accounts. Despite the efforts of the people who were posted on the site against their will, there wasn't a specific law against what Moore was doing in the early 2010s. Early in the doc, we are introduced to Charlotte Laws, whose daughter Kayla Laws was posted on the site. As told by the women who were posted on the site, Moore did not care that he was ruining their lives.

There seems to be little remorse nor accountability for the nude photos that were hacked, nor self-awareness that both he and the scorned partners can both do terrible things. In one video posted to his timeline, he admits he was "a little p***k" during the site's heyday. Moore would then publish the nude photos on IsAnyoneUp. Moore created IsAnyoneUp, the most popular revenge porn site the Internet had ever seen at that point. He created the website IsAnyoneUp.com, which featured nude and sexually explicit photos, mostly of women, usually submitted by their exes without their consent.
