Louisiana rapper JayDaYoungan was shot and killed Wednesday outside his home in Bogalusa. He was 24.

"We are deeply saddened to hear the devastating news that JayDaYoungan has been tragically killed," Atlantic Records said in a statement to EW. "This is a senseless loss of an immensely talented artist with his whole life in front of him. JayDaYoungan found regional success with this 2017 mixtape Ruffwayy, which he followed up with The Real Jumpman 23 later that year. I'm so sorry 💔 I love you so much!!!"

Police said the surviving victim was a “close relative” of the rapper but would not discuss their relationship. “My thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ family and friends. His major-label debut album Baby23 arrived in 2020. Another victim, still on the scene, was critically wounded and was transported there by ambulance. “The senseless shooting in Bogalusa [is] another tragic reminder of the pain that violent crime brings with it,” she said. The musician, whose real name is Javorius Scott, was killed Wednesday just after 6 p.m. Local police said he died "as a result of his injuries."

In a Facebook post, Bogalusa Police confirmed Scott's death "as a result of his injuries." Earlier this year he released two EPs, "Scarred" and "All Is Well." In his brief career, Scott had worked with Lil Durk, Latto, Moneybagg Yo and Kevin Gates. In June 2021, Scott was released from prison after serving seven months on charges of possession of a firearm while under indictment for a crime. Legal issues dogged Scott, with charges stemming from things such as possession of a controlled substance in 2019, illegal drug possession and assault in March 2020, serving as an accessory to second-degree murder. In the same year, Scott released “The Real Jumpman 23,” which peaked at No. 86 on the Billboard 200. in September 2021, and child desertion and evidence tampering in October 2021. “We can also confirm that Javorius Scott has died as a result of his injuries. Earlier Wednesday, Bogalusa police said that there were two victims receiving treatment after the shooting, which was reported at 5:50 p.m. One victim was transported to the Our Lady of the Angels emergency room. The Bogalusa Police Department said detectives are investigating the crime.
