Heavyweight prospect Mohammed Usman wants to create a UFC legacy that isn't solely linked to his pound-for-pound king brother Kamaru.

He’s looking to defend the title for a sixth time following his most recent win over Colby Covington at UFC 268. Usman has had his fair share of ups and down during his professional MMA career, including most recently in a loss to Brandon Sayles during the 2021 PFL season. Usman will battle Zac Pauga for The Ultimate Fighter 30 heavyweight title tonight at UFC Vegas 59.

UFC Vegas 59 saw the conclusion of the heavyweight portion of the Ultimate Fighter 30 after Mohammed Usman KO'ed Zac Pauga.

The knockout of Pauga now puts the younger Usman into the UFC alongside his brother, the current reigning and defending welterweight champion. Two firey heavyweights worked their way through The Ultimate Fighter 30 and squared off at UFC Vegas 59. Round one started off with a running kick right to Usman, but the blow missed.

He earned himself a six-figure UFC contract with the win. With the victory, Usman won the heavyweight bracket of “TUF 30.” He defeated Mitchell Sipe and Eduardo Perez via decisions in exhibition fights during the taping of the reality series. Usman followed it up with a nail in the coffin, a massive diving follow-up punch that further sealed the deal at 0:36 of Round 2.

One of those contests, against UCLA shortly after Stoops was fired, was memorable for another reason. The Usman brothers were born in Nigeria and migrated to the United States as kids, settling down in Dallas. Whereas Kamaru developed his fighting skills as a collegiate wrestler, Mohammed adopted the American pastime of football, eventually earning his way on to the Arizona program in 2010-11 under Mike Stoops. Usman follows in the footsteps of his brother Kamaru, who won The Ultimate Fighter in 2015 before going on to become one of the top MMA fighters in the world.
