All Blacks score two late tries against Springboks to blown open ... (Fox Sports)

New Zealand ended a three-match losing streak with a 35-23 Rugby Championship second-round win over South Africa at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Opting to kick for goal from the halfway line, his kick just made it and as the teams trooped off the field a 15-point New Zealand advantage had been cut to 15-10. Taukei’aho then used his strength to power over from close range and this time Mo’unga split the posts with his kick for a 15-point lead five minutes before half-time. His successful kick triggered a period of away dominance in which captain and flanker Sam Cane and hooker Samson Taukei’aho scored tries, the second of which Mo’unga converted.

Rugby Championship: Five takeaways from Argentina v Australia as ... (planetrugby.com)

Following a 48-17 victory for Argentina over Australia in their Rugby Championship clash, here's our five takeaways from the match in San Juan.

As we approach World Cup year, his value to Argentina cannot be understated and they can take great comfort that every time he plays, they go into a Test with the best goal kicker in the world. The first thing Dave Rennie needs to work on is upping the desire and intensity, two qualities that should be a given for Test rugby players. It’s a crazy situation when the scrum-half has so much pressure in his face to ask him then to run the game and, put simply, it’s not working for Australia. On only four occasions in the match did James O’Connor receive the ball as a traditional 10. Argentina have been improving slowly but surely and are developing a host of world-class players in every department of the team. Above all, the key to their success was owning the drop zone – in other words controlling the five-metre box around where the kicks are landing.

Rugby Championship: All Blacks bounce back in style as losing run ... (planetrugby.com)

New Zealand picked up their first win in this year's Rugby Championship after they overcame South Africa 35-23 in a morale-boosting victory at Ellis Park.

Following the interval, South Africa looked to build on that score and a Pollard penalty goal made it a two-point ball game after 45 minutes. New Zealand, to their credit, were much better in the forward exchanges and their improvements from last weekend were rewarded on 23 minutes as a run downfield that involved Will Jordan and Rieko Ioane ended with Lood de Jager straying offside. Despite their early dominance, however, the All Blacks could not turn pressure into points and that was with Damian Willemse off the field after he was yellow carded for killing the ball at a ruck.

It left him isolated as the Pumas got on the ball to win a penalty, which allowed Boffelli to add another three points from the kicking tee to see the home take a 29-10 advantage. Argentina had a second after just six minutes to leave the Wallabies shell-shocked. But, having turned to Noah Lolesio following Quade Cooper’s injury for the series against England in July, it appears he has muddied the waters by turning away from the youngster. “We gave them a few soft points early on, fought our way back into it. After a quieter start to the second half, at least from a points perspective, Wright’s inexperience at fullback was exposed again in the 52nd minute as the Brumbies back opted to run the ball back from rather than kick. While Len Ikitau hit back after 66 minutes, but two late tries saw the home side pull away and punish the Wallabies for their mistakes to grab a bonus point and move to the top of The Rugby Championship standings.

Following a 35-23 victory for New Zealand over South Africa in their Rugby Championship clash, here's our five takeaways from the match at Ellis Park.

However, on replay, most of his calls looked on point and it was the early inaccuracy of the Boks that really cost them. In a match with some controversial and complex refereeing decisions, it would be easy for South Africa to go full on Rassie and question some of Luke Pearce’s decisions. In adversity and having to rearrange their backline after Jesse Kriel went off, the passing and the ambition finally clicked. Sure, it’s a very simple game plan, but the key to Springbok tactics is the legality and accuracy that they deliver their plans with. They also performed a lot better in the aerial battle with Jordie Barrett and Will Jordan making some big catches under huge pressure to shore up the usually effective Springbok kick and chase game. Crucially, they edged the battle of the set-pieces and breakdown, a remarkable feat considering their deficiencies last weekend.

Argentina secured their biggest ever victory over Australia as they superbly overcame the Wallabies 48-17 in Saturday's Rugby Championship contest.

It was to prove a big turning point as Argentina almost immediately benefited from that let off. The home side held a 19-10 lead in Round One but they went seven better on Saturday as tries for Juan Imhoff, Thomas Gallo, Jeronimo de la Fuente and Juan Martin Gonzalez gave them a 26-10 advantage at the interval. James Slipper touched down for Dave Rennie’s outfit and James O’Connor kicked a conversion and a penalty, but they struggled for fluency throughout the contest.

Australia have slumped to their biggest ever defeat by Argentina, a 48-17 thrashing in which Los Pumas score seven tries to two.

They got the momentum and the crowd behind them and they’re a tough team to play catch up football against. Gallo grabbed his second and then Boffelli crossed before a try by Tomas Albornoz after full-time capped a memorable match for the home side. We’ve got to be better and while we’ll get a few guys back, whoever puts the jersey on has to front and we weren’t good enough. Australia got off to the worst possible start and they trailed 14-0 after seven minutes. “Clearly disappointed,” said Slipper. “Off the back of a good performance last week we wanted to back it up. A ruck’s not a disaster; just not clinical enough.

Just a week after the Boks recorded a stunning win over the All Blacks, the visitors bounced back in fine fashion beating South Africa 35-23.

Conceded a silly penalty in the 48th minute but overall it was a tremendous display by the replacement, who certainly has a case for the No.8 jersey. He had problems in defence and failed to make his usual strong carries. Was caught offside which resulted in the All Blacks’ first points of the match. And it was certainly a match to forget. The best of the struggling starting front row, however not the most memorable 50th test cap for the prop. Another masterclass by Am. Unfortunate not to score a try in the opening minutes of the match. He copped a yellow card in the opening minutes of the match. He looked out of pace and even missed a couple of tackles. He also contested the high ball very well and scored a try. He moved to No.12 following Jesse Kriel’s departure in the eighth minute and it was not a bad effort from the utility back. Nonetheless, he made two great carries before being replaced by Jasper Wiese in the 35th minute. However, labelled as Mr Cool by All Blacks legend Justin Marshall, Pollard bounced back and produced another cool and collected display in the second half and kicked very well.

After an injury-plagued winter, eight sidelined Wallabies players will return for the first Test against South Africa in Adelaide.

“They’re very direct and they’re happy to defend and give you a bit of ball. If you make a mistake, you bar up and you get it right. “We have to make sure he can’t get through so easily, and you can legally do that, with guys coming back to the zone. You have to make him run around and not get an easy contest on the ball. The Springboks will have noted the Pumas’ success and look to do the same in Adelaide, given contestable kicks are a big part of their game. It is a tricky area, given referees will watch for players changing their line to block a chaser, but Rennie said they would work on helping the catcher before meeting the Boks.
