New Zealand summon late magic to down South Africa in must-win ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

Whether this sensational performance has made the New Zealand Rugby Union change its mind is unclear, but the selection of props Ethan de Groot, and Tyrel Lomax ...

"It's something we expected from South Africa in terms of the high ball collision and contest," he said. It's all New Zealand at the moment. New Zealand kick for touch but cannot create anything from the resulting lineout. As the clock winds down South Africa have a penalty. Great play from the ABs Ioane and Jordan bounce down the right touchline in a great breakout for the visitors. The All Blacks needed to make a statement early on and for 35 minutes they did that here, deservedly taking a 15-0 lead, taking on the Boks pack and coming out on top. It's a penalty for the hosts and they can go in front for the first time this match. New Zealand had finally found their mojo, and after a tremendous break down the middle from Caleb Clarke, the ball was recycled for Will Jordan to put Sam Cane over at the corner. The Boks are putting the squeeze on here, it's hard to see how the All Blacks get back in this without a moment of magic. Pollard and Richie Mo’unga exchanged penalties, but the turning point came when Willemse’s try got ruled out after Jaden Hendrikse was adjudged to have blocked an All Blacks defender from tackling Am. Mo’unga nailed the penalty, but South Africa hit straight back. Prior to kick-off reports in New Zealand indicated Foster would get the boot even if he led his side to victory. Forwards coach John Plumtree and attack coach Brad Mooar paid the ultimate price for these failures, getting shown the door by Foster. And whatever new forwards guru Jason Ryan is doing in training is undoubtedly working because the All Blacks matched the world champions in every aspect be it the set-piece, the driving lineout, the kicking game, and most importantly the collisions.

'Disappointing': Wallabies smashed by Cheika's Pumas in record loss (Fox Sports)

The Wallabies will return home with their tails between their legs after letting slip a golden opportunity in Argentina. Not for the first time the ...

It left him isolated as the Pumas got on the ball to win a penalty, which allowed Boffelli to add another three points from the kicking tee to see the home take a 29-10 advantage. Argentina had a second after just six minutes to leave the Wallabies shell-shocked. But, having turned to Noah Lolesio following Quade Cooper’s injury for the series against England in July, it appears he has muddied the waters by turning away from the youngster. “We gave them a few soft points early on, fought our way back into it. After a quieter start to the second half, at least from a points perspective, Wright’s inexperience at fullback was exposed again in the 52nd minute as the Brumbies back opted to run the ball back from rather than kick. While Len Ikitau hit back after 66 minutes, but two late tries saw the home side pull away and punish the Wallabies for their mistakes to grab a bonus point and move to the top of The Rugby Championship standings.

Wallabies take a step backward in Argentina thrashing (The Sydney Morning Herald)

There were extenuating circumstances but the Wallabies have serious issues to address after their thumping loss to Argentina.

15. Jordie Barrett (New Zealand) 5. Scott Barrett (New Zealand) 4. Sam Whitelock (New Zealand) The All Blacks scored two superb tries in the 35-23 win over South Africa and rediscovered their edge up front. It was unrealistic to expect James O’Connor to be anything but a bit clunky at No 10, but you can bet that the Wallabies will track Quade Cooper’s rehabilitation extremely closely. However, the Boks have a ‘point of difference’ player in Lukhanyo Am, who must be the best centre in world rugby.

Argentina register their biggest ever win over Australia to go top of ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

What a win for the Pumas. Thanks to that thrashing of the the Wallabies they are now top of the Rugby Championship. Australia were tactically outplayed and ...

The Australia defence is at sixes and sevens at the moment. Much better from the Australians. They're in the hosts' half keeping the ball alive, popping it left and right. From there the Pumas keep the ball alive moving it from right to left BUT then they give a penalty away for 'foul play'. Great move off the back of a lineout from Australia as Rob Valetini picks up the ball at pace, charging into the Pumas' 22 before passing to Petaia who goes over the line but cannot ground the ball. The ball is in the Australia half which suits the Pumas just fine. The Pumas kick over the top and O'Connor collects in the corner, but the No 10 is isolated and outnumbered and the hosts turn the ball over. It's the Pumas put in now and the Wallabies will be annoyed with themselves as the hosts kick away any danger. Boffelli kicks the extras and it's been a great, great win for the Pumas. Argentina kicked the ball 15 times in all in the first match between the teams last weekend which Australia won 41-26. The chalking off of that try seemed to blunt the Wallabies' rally and Argentina surged further ahead when De la Fuente scored in the 24th minute. Winger Emiliano Boffelli appeared to score soon afterwards, again winning a contest for the ball in the air. Slipper picked up the ball when it appeared quickly at the base of the ruck and drove over for only his second try in 119 Tests.

It took five minutes for Pablo Matera to go over, after a slick interchange with Santiago Carreras. Juan Martin Gonzalez's effort was without doubt the try of the opening weekend. Folau Fainga'a joins Cooper on the physio table, which means Lachlan Lonergan starts in a Test for the first time. If this second clash between Argentina and Australia is anything like the first, we're in for another cracker. Cheika has made four changes to the Argentina lineup, with wing Juan Imhoff, center Matias Moroni, loosehead prop Thomas Gallo, and scrum-half Gonzalo Bertranou coming into the team.

Cheers and tears: Cheika says beating Wallabies a 'confusing' ride (The Sydney Morning Herald)

Former Wallabies coach Michael Cheika admits he had very mixed emotions in seeing his new team thump his old team.

But I am looking forward to going to New Zealand because it is a great place to go and play rugby.” “I was up on the last try, cheering. But taking the Pumas there will be a different experience for Cheika, and given the internal drama of New Zealand rugby, he may even fly entirely under the radar. You have to focus on the situation ahead of you, not the past, whether it be the first half or four years ago.” One of Cheika’s most famous moments as Wallabies coach was in Salta in 2018 when Argentina raced away to a 28-0 lead at half-time. But the former Wallabies coach then had a flash of sadness, too.

Rugby Championship: Argentina score seven tries in record win ... (The Guardian)

Australia have slumped to their biggest ever defeat by Argentina, a 48-17 thrashing in which Los Pumas score seven tries to two.

They got the momentum and the crowd behind them and they’re a tough team to play catch up football against. Gallo grabbed his second and then Boffelli crossed before a try by Tomas Albornoz after full-time capped a memorable match for the home side. We’ve got to be better and while we’ll get a few guys back, whoever puts the jersey on has to front and we weren’t good enough. Australia got off to the worst possible start and they trailed 14-0 after seven minutes. “Clearly disappointed,” said Slipper. “Off the back of a good performance last week we wanted to back it up. A ruck’s not a disaster; just not clinical enough.
