Love In The Villa transforms bottomless cliches into an amiable rom ... (PINKVILLA)

A breezy, pleasing love story about star-crossed travelers that transcends Netflix's romantic recipes.

[enamored](https://www.pinkvilla.com/entertainment/hollywood/sofia-carson-1184377) of was actually built later, in a deliberate attempt to draw tourists to charming Verona, as pragmatic Charlie explains at one point. The film is given a brilliant effervescence by Johnson and his team, who previously provided another amusing rom-com for the streamer ("Love, Guaranteed"), not merely in the material's cherry jests but also in its deft production. The two are forced to live together because the erratic owner of the apartment (Emilio Solfrizzi) offers them no recourse and there is no other place for them to reside. With their chemistry and intrinsic likeability that is as appealing as it is entertaining, he and Graham create rooting interest. The location has been reserved for the exact same week by ruthless wine merchant Charlie (Tom Hopper), who is in town for the annual wine festival on business. But the happy surprise that awaits even the most pessimistic viewers of romantic comedy from writer-director Mark Steven Johnson is that the manufactured product contains a comforting appeal to its reasonable delight.

The views expressed here are that of the respective authors/ entities and do not represent the views of Economic Times (ET). Verona is in the Northern part of Italy, particularly on the western side of Venice, and popular among lovers for its charm. This is mainly because that was the first visit to Verona for all of them. So, it is not surprising that [Julie](/topic/julie), the protagonist of the comedy, is so much in awe of Verona. Kat Graham is playing the character of Julie, and she was forced to visit Verona alone after her boyfriend dumped her! Huddleston and Stephanie Slack – two producers of this romantic drama, reported that not only the characters but all the members of the shooting unit were awestruck by Verona during the shooting.

Love in the Villa is so forgettable that it ceases to exist-Entertainment ... (Firstpost)

The Netflix rom-com is happy to be a glorified tourism advert.

The statues in Verona have more chemistry with the bees than the two leads have with each other. He sends back her luggage from the airline and convinces them to sell her clothes to orphans, which in turn lets Julie dress like an Italian model for the rest of the film. When Julie gets dumped in the beginning, I expected her to discover that romance is a tourist trap in the ultimate city of love, Verona. The cobblestones have more personality than the characters. The initial parts – where both of them try to get rid of each other by playing juvenile tricks – are difficult to watch; even the actors (Kat Graham and Tom Hopper) look uncomfortable. But no, Julie is missing an alphabet, so the only subversion is that she finds a super-fit man who cooks for her. They’re the actions of two budding sociopaths. Note the title: Love in the Villa. It’s a tale older than Shakespeare, designed to capture the imagination of Mills-and-Boons-loving pre-teens from 1992 who grow up to defend Serendipity over Notting Hill. In fact, she has no right to exist otherwise. For a hot minute, I thought of the Hindi film Queen, which starred Kangana Ranaut back in 2015, and told a far more progressive story about a woman finding herself after going on a solo honeymoon to Paris and Amsterdam. They feature performances that strive to be generic and forgettable.

'Love in the Villa': Netflix meets Hallmark Channel (Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette)

In fair Verona: Cool British subject Charlie (Tom Hopper) finds himself having to share accommodations with suddenly single Julie (Kat Graham) in the Netflix ...

When I did eventually settle into "Love in the Villa," I saw Graham and Hopper actually make a cute pair. If you asked fans of psychological thrillers what the best psychological thriller is, again, you'd find a handful of common titles, "Silence of the Lambs," likely among them. Because typically, if you polled Western fans and asked them what the best Western title is, I think you'd find a handful of common titles (and "The Magnificent Seven" from 1960 would likely be among them). It took me a little longer to get with these characters because I kept seeing the witch Bonnie from "The Vampire Diaries" and strongman Number One from another popular Netflix title "Umbrella Academy." Some of the jokes land perfectly with Charlie's dry British sass and Julie's initial lack of fortune. The pair try to drive each other out of the villa by going to war with pranks until they escalate too far, and the police-- er, la polizia, arrive. The story follows a third-grade teacher from Minneapolis named Julie (Kat Graham) who is obsessed with "Romeo and Juliet." But I appreciate that the movie doesn't try to make the narrative anything more than it is. And that provides the setup for this little story. But the more I watch, the more I find rom-coms, as a genre, to be slightly more subjective than the rest. These are movies where the Rotten Tomatoes score is an unspoken language and the opinion of others is moot. Every rom-com fan has a few titles that transcend the word "favorite."

Cassie is Tom’s on and off-again finance who shows up at the end of the 2nd act to add more drama. The two barely seemed to like each other, let alone be in love with each other. The soundtrack is also fire! The film has an entire Italian cover soundtrack that sets the mood perfectly for each scene. However, I don’t care for the bullying trope and that’s all this film is. The worst thing he does is make her an Italian delicacy making her think she ate horse meat.

In trying to make her a relatable, endearing protagonist with just the right sprinkle of awkwardness that people can identify with, the writers manage to make her nothing short of insufferable. Even for rom com enthusiasts who do not mind a bit of predicability, Love in the Villa comes off as a huge disappointment. Not one to waste her one in a lifetime chance to see the city of Love, Julia decides to go anyway. After a tumultuous time at the airport and a near death experience in a cab, Julia arrives to a shocking surprise when she finally sets foot into the beautiful villa she booked in Verona. Her plans of experiencing a slice of the epic romance herself by embarking on a romantic trip to Verona with her boyfriend is shattered when the latter abruptly breaks up with her. Love in the Villa (2022) - Netflix rom-com in Verona - Review ... (Martin Cid Magazine)

Love in the Villa is a romantic comedy starring Kat Graham and Tom Hopper. It is written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson.

Love in the Villa is a location romantic comedy in all its formulaic splendor. It is a light viewing experience for the more romantic audience, and who want to take a quick trip to Italy. There is a guaranteed tour of the beautiful city of Verona, full of scenes and sequences showing-off the charming streets, buildings, and its people. Forced to co-habitate in this splendid villa, Julie and Charlie will start a get to know each other. If you have not had a chance to visit Italy, you can get a taste of the bucolic atmosphere of Verona – remember it is heavy on stereotypes, but you can choose to ignore them. If you are looking a watchable rom-com, with beautiful scenes of Verona (yes, where Romeo and Juliet was set), Love in the Villa is it.
