He's done it again! SVG records sixth Pukekohe victory as first lap madness costs title rival dearly.

Mostert was 2.3s behind, with Waters 4.4s from the winner. Van Gisbergen kept the margin at 1.3s, with Waters unable to make a dent on Mostert. Mostert led Davison in on the following lap, with Waters splitting them on re-entry. Van Gisbergen emerged ahead of Mostert following his lap 18 stop, with the margin 0.5s. The points leader crossed the line ahead of Chaz Mostert and Cam Waters, with Will Davison fourth. Davison ranged around the outside of the #97 at Turn 8, but ran wide and collided with Waters.

Van Gisbergen delivers Supercars stunner in Pukekohe farewell (1 News)

Aucklander wins both races on Sunday - the second in dramatic style - as Supercars say goodbye to cherished old race track.

"The car was amazing ... Brown was sent off the track at 180km/h, saying "it was the biggest hit I've ever had", before unloading on Winterbottom in the garage, with his team manager pushing the veteran and telling him to leave. Davison was too quick on the accelerator in pit lane, taking off as his team tightened his wheel, meaning he needed to pit again to fix it, and then once more as a penalty. Saturday's winner Will Davison will rue his Sunday, botching a passing move on van Gisbergen for the lead in race 28 to finish fourth, then winding up 23rd after a race 29 disaster. It's a dream. I grew up watching Supercars here and fell in love with it and wanted to become a Supercars driver."

'Better than Bathurst': Shane van Gisbergen reflects on incredible ... (Stuff.co.nz)

Shane van Gisbergen has hailed his incredible finish to the final Supercars race at Pukekohe Park as the highlight of an already illustious career.

It resulted in the wheel just hanging on, having to pit again on the next lap and then copping a penalty. A beautiful mind crunching all the player stats. You need journalists close enough to smell the liniment. But the left rear wheel nut wasn’t done up before Davison’s car was dropped and he sped away. No offence to Cam, but I was cheering for Shane.” If quality local sport journalism is important to you, become a Stuff supporter today. Then you start thinking about it and fight back the tears,” Heimgartner said. Then when I passed Cam into the hairpin on the next lap, they were going nuts.” The spotlight had been on Van Gisbergen all week, something he’s never comfortable with. Having Jason’s parents there, it was very cool.” “It was an emotional day and I was really glad Shane was able to get it in the end. “I could see them going wild.

Van Gisbergen dominates to give Pukekohe a perfect farewell (New Zealand Herald)

In a highly entertaining weekend of Supercars racing, it was a fitting farewell for the end of motorsport at the grand old lady of New Zealand racing venues.

With three laps to go the Kiwi slid past Waters and went on to take the win with Heimgartner third. I knew he was going to be the hardest guy to get past but I wasn't going to give up. On the restart, Davison bounced away and held firm from Waters, De Pasquale, Feeney and Heimgartner with van Gisbergen in eighth, but trouble arrived for Davison during the pitstop. "It was a bit crazy on the restart and I did the best I could to try and get going as I was struggling on my tyres. Van Gisbergen picked up his 17th win of the season with Mostert second and Waters third. "I could see the crowd and it was awesome and pretty hard to not get distracted. With a few laps to go van Gisbergen got past Heimgartner and set about chasing Waters down. The second race again started with drama as James Courtney was punted heavily into the wall at turn one. On the restart van Gisbergen held Davison at bay. Heimgartner finished sixth and the third Kiwi in the field, Chris Pither, ended 19th. No matter where we go next in New Zealand I hope we can keep racing for the JR Trophy." Seeing his parents was awesome and great to have them here.

Supercars Auckland: Van Gisbergen doubles up in final Pukekohe ... (autosport.com)

Shane van Gisbergen took an emotional victory in what was a thrilling final ever Supercars race at Pukekohe Park.

Supercars' most successful team of the past 15 years is set for a radical shakeup next year when Jamie Whincup retires from driving and takes over the reins at Triple Eight. On the face of it, picking an 18-year-old rookie to replace arguably the greatest Supercars driver of all time is a risky move. His decision to leave Brad Jones Racing was the biggest shock of the Australian Supercars silly season so far.
