Nanai wins 2022 Dally M NRL Rookie of the Year Award (NRL.COM)

Cowboys second rower Jeremiah Nanai has capped off a superb season by taking out the 2022 Dally M NRL Rookie of the Year Award.

Nanai is the first Cowboys player in history to have won the Rookie of the Year Award. Bulldogs winger Jacob Kiraz, Rabbitohs halfback Lachlan Ilias and Panthers winger Taylan May were the other finalists in this year’s Dally M NRL Rookie of the Year Award. Nicho Hynes became the fourth Sharks player to take out the NRL's most coveted individual prize when named the winner of the 2022 Dally M Medal.

It's an honour to be here, and to do it with mum who is here tonight, she means the world to me, makes it even more special.” It is my first Dally M so I’m just glad to be here,” Hynes said after accepting the award from Dally Messenger the Third. On a big night for the Sharks number seven, Hynes was also revealed as a Finalist for the NRL's community award the Ken Stephen Medal, as the winner of the Provan Summons Medal, Spirit of the Game award, while he was also named as half back in the Dally M Team of the Year.

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks halfback Nicho Hynes has won the 2022 Dally M Medal – with the highest ever individual score in the history of the award.

Panthers Grand Final captain Isaah Yeo also capped a stellar night, awarded Dally M Captain of the Year and Dally M Lock of the Year. Tonight we have celebrated the spirit of rugby league encapsulated by the male and female athletes who make our sport great. Kids grow up wanting to play because of them.

Cronulla Sharks halfback Nicho Hynes has capped off a superb season by taking out the 2022 Dally M Medal for the NRL Player of the Year.

Hynes also recorded career high totals in kick metres (9,347 metres), offloads, tackle breaks and running metres, averaging 117 metres per game with the ball in hand. After shifting from the Melbourne Storm ahead of the 2022 campaign, Hynes excelled in his first season at his new club — playing 25 of a possible 26 matches to help the Sharks to a top four finish in the regular season for the first time since 2018. Ben Hunt was regarded as the hot favuourite to claim the Dally M medal but was beaten out by Nicho Hynes who in turn claimed the halback spot in the team.

Alongside Manu and Suaalii, the 29-year-old was consistently one of Trent Robinson’s best and ended up running second on the overall leaderboard. After winning the Captain of the Year award, Isaah Yeo was also placed at lock in the Team of the Year. Craig Fitzgibbon clearly had no doubts he was the man to lead Cronulla forward and he recorded the highest ever points tally, breaking a 43-year record in the process. The Origin gun stormed out of the gates in the voting leaderboard and beat out No.13 rivals Camerom Murray and Jason Taumalolo. Storm superstar Cameron Munster was able to keep his head in the game, despite a heavily-publicised contract decision looming. Pundits tipped Storm dummy-half Harry Grant to take this spot, but the Panthers No.9 prevailed. The Brisbane gun led from the front for Kevin Walters men, despite the club’s stunning late-season slide and was also a crucial man for NSW in a losing State of Origin series. Tapine was a revelation for Canberra after struggling for game time last season, becoming one of the NRL’s best big men. Roosters star Joseph Manu excelled in his new role, playing as a roaming attacker under Trent Robinson. Roosters superstar James Tedesco was ever-present for the Tricolours and thoroughly deserves his spot at the back in the Dally M Team of the Year. The Dally M Medal winner for the 2022 season. The Dally M Team of the Year has been unveiled and it’s fair to say there are a couple of shocks.
