- Maungakiekie-Tamaki: Josphine Bartley has retained her seat. U have my full support and thanks for being so respectful and robust during rue campaign. - Albert-Eden-Roskill: Christine Fletcher has retained her seat and looks to be joined by Will McKenzie. - Whau: Tracey Mulholland has retained her seat. Sincere congratulations to Wayne Brown and wish you every success in this blessed role as Mayor of Auckland. Let me be very clear: Wellington’s job is to listen to what Aucklanders say are our priorities, and to fund them – not impose ideological schemes like the $30 billion airport tram, untrammelled housing intensification and Three Waters on a city that doesn’t want them.”

Local elections: Who's in and who's out? Where to find results (1 News)

Voting boxes for local body elections were sealed around the country at midday.

On the final count in 2019, 41% of Wellingtonians had voted. Every location closed their doors at midday on the dot so anyone trying to join the queue after that time would have been turned away," it said. “It’s an extremely busy time for us as a large number of votes have come in this morning. The city's electoral officer, Dale Ofsoske, said last-minute votes would not be counted until after midday. In Auckland, voter turnout was 29.4% as of 5pm yesterday. Tory Whanau has beaten Labour's Rongotai MP Paul Eagle and incumbent mayor Andy Foster to become the city's second Greens-aligned mayor. It comes as voter turnout was low across the country, just hours before polls closed. Phil Mauger has won the race to become Christchurch's next mayor. With 90% of votes counted former National MP Nick Smith is set to become Nelson's new mayor. Tripe, a management consultant, has 6901 votes, with McDouall on 4981. Candidate Sophie Barker is placing third with Lee Vandervis coming in fourth. First-time candidate Andrew Tripe has beaten incumbent mayor Hamish McDouall, according to preliminary results.

Cocurullo was first elected to the Whangārei District Council 15 years ago in 2007. "I'm looking forward to getting the new council on track," Cocurullo said. He stood unsuccessfully as mayor in the 2010 and 2013 local government elections. Tomorrow the Kaipara District Council, Whangārei District Council and Northland Regional Council are expecting to update these with preliminary results. He said he was looking forward to working with fellow councillors - including those in the new Whangārei District Māori ward - in the following week to build a new team based on people's strengths. Progressive results show Vince Cocurullo has won the race for the title of Whangārei Mayor and current deputy Far North mayor Ann Court as the district's new leader.

The process is this: the election services provider (most councils contract to one of two private companies) informs the council; the council in turn informs candidates and then publishes the results on their site. For the Chathams, housing provision and income support is a major concern, as the cost of transporting materials makes living much more expensive than elsewhere in the country. The margin is far from overwhelming, but with 90% counted a lead of more than 1,000 is enough to call it: the Labour candidate, elected to the mayoralty in 2019 at the age of 31, will be back for another term. Since local governments don’t caucus, or agree to vote along certain lines, as happens in central government, the success of a policy depends on an ability to work with others and convince them to support motions and budgets. Like the Māori seats used in central government elections, Māori wards represent voters who are registered on the Māori electoral roll at a council level. Hutt City Council is also holding a referendum about whether to use this system next time around – we’ll let you know the results of that when we have them. His mayoralty spanned over 24 years and we know the Invercargill community has a strong affection and gratitude for his hard work and commitment to the role and the city over the past two decades. Just over an hour ago Stuff journalist Dileepa Fonseka offered a glimpse of the queue to special vote in Auckland. Invercargill City Council Deputy Electoral Officer Michael Morris said with only 2104 ordinary votes and a number of special votes still to be counted, the result was clear. While Auckland Council would be “a whole new challenge” it would not be “the first thing I’ve had to fix”. “At more than 300 campaign events over the last six months, Aucklanders have made clear to me and fellow candidate Efeso Collins that you love our city, but that you know much of it is broken.” This term has seen devastating floods in Nelson and a divided council, with multiple councillors subject to a Code of Conduct process that has been identified as unhelpful for building council relationships.

The Dunedin City Council uses the single-transferable vote for its electoral system and other councils in the South use first-past-the-post. "The council is going to be there for the next three years, and if you don't vote, then it'll be made up of councillors that other people want." "Given the limited time left, consider which candidates you would really like to be mayor or on council and list them in order of your preference," Prof Geddis, from the University of Otago, said. Start your day in the knowGet the latest headlines straight to your inbox. Dunedin Mayor Aaron Hawkins is up against 10 challengers for the role and four of them are city councillors from the past term — Jules Radich, Sophie Barker, Carmen Houlahan and Lee Vandervis. These would be in the upper Octagon outside the Municipal Chambers, in George St outside the Civic Centre and in the Octagon's central carriageway, Dunedin deputy electoral officer Clare Sullivan said.

Three new mayors elected for Northland - Vince Cocurullo, Ann ... (New Zealand Herald)

This year's election is full of change as three new mayors will be appointed in Northland.

That means just over one in four people on the Māori roll cast a vote. She is a world champion waka ama paddler and the wife of former MP Hone Harawira. Cocurullo was first elected to the Whangārei District Council 15 years ago in 2007. "I don't believe in turning up three months before an election and raising a profile. Looking at current numbers, that person is Rachel Smith - but that, too, could change. Turnout in the Far North has been disappointing despite the prospect of a new mayor, the introduction of Māori wards, and a wide choice of high-calibre candidates. "I just take my job seriously and give it 100 per cent ... I'm not that kind of politician," she said. He won the mayoralty by more than 1400 votes. According to progress results, the new general ward councillors for the Far North District Council are Ann Court, Kelly Stratford and Steve McNally (Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Ward), John Vujcich (Kaikohe-Hokianga Ward), Felicity Foy and Mate Radich (Te Hiku Ward). The new council will be very different to its predecessors with 10 instead of nine councillors, four of whom will be elected from the Ngā Tai o Tokerau Māori Ward — the first time a designated Māori ward has been used in the Far North. She was celebrating the culmination of a 24-year career in local government at home in Waipapa with close family and a bottle of bubbly.
