Fewer than a dozen 'disinformation' candidates elected to councils (Stuff.co.nz)

Two prominent Voices for Freedom figures have won council seats. But most electorates rejected candidates who spread disinformation.

[Duncan Campbell won the seventh seat in the Taupō ward](https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/300687952/taup-council-candidate-backs-voices-for-freedom-after-initially-not-revealing-stance). In Gisborne, incumbent councillor [Meredith Akuhata-Brown](https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/440230/gisborne-councillor-reprimanded-for-facebook-post-with-vaccine-misinformation), who was reprimanded for posting false information about the Covid-19 vaccine on social media, also failed in her re-election bid. In the north of Auckland, Leanne Willis will serve on the Hibiscus & Bays local board. They also said they had not provided any financial support to candidates or their campaigns. He donated to VFF last year, is on their mailing list, and attended the [VFF’s operations manager, Tane Webster, ran for a seat on the same council but was unsuccessful](https://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/news/129613549/operations-head-of-antivax-group-voices-for-freedom-standing-for-new-plymouth-district-council). Clyde Graf took one of two Waipā-King Country seats on the Waikato Regional Council. It was not a complete blowout. Thames-Coromandel, Tasman, Waimakariri, and Far North district councils all had multiple VFF-aligned candidates that were not elected. Booth was elected to the Teviot Community Board in Central Otago. Dairy farmer Boparai, who pushes a conspiracy theory about a UN agenda to enslave humanity, was elected to the Southland District Council.

The curious case of the Labour logos stuck to Efeso Collins' hoardings (The Spinoff)

They don't at first glance suggest defacement – Collins was elected as a Labour councillor and his mayoral bid has been formally endorsed by the Labour Party, ...

“On all our collateral, signs and on our website we make it clear that City Vision is a coalition of Labour, Greens and community independents like me who have shared progressive values. “I’m honoured the prime minister was able to make time in her busy timetable to support our campaign for a more just and sustainable city,” said Collins this week. And his team doesn’t know where the stickers, which have been placed to obscure the slogan “for the people” on the signs, come from. Red rectangular stickers sporting the logo of the Labour Party have been attached in recent days to a handful of Efeso Collins’ election signs. [told RNZ](https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/474987/chatting-with-auckland-s-mayoral-candidates-wayne-brown-efeso-collins-craig-lord) last month he was a swing supporter. “None of our allies or volunteers have been doing it.”
