Welsh lineout 10m from halfway which they win and gain a penalty from as the Black Ferns find themselves offside. Wales earn another penalty and again they kick for the corner. Chelsea Bremner gets the meat pie and after a tight start to the contest, the Black Ferns finally forge a lead. The attack looks to continue but a forward pass ends it so we come back for the penalty. The ball stays with the forwards for a few phases and eventually the Welsh armour cracks. Wales go short with the restart and are punished as the Black Ferns again get easy metres up to halfway. The ball gets to Woodman on halfway and she steps her way into the backfield. Wales kick for touch with it and get a lineout 10m inside the NZ half. Ponsonby makes the break off the restart and offloads to Reynolds. It comes back to the middle of the field and the Black Ferns are into the Welsh half. Welsh with one last chance to strike off a scrum 10m inside the NZ half. After Wales go deep on the restart the ball comes wide to the left and with the space NZ are back in the Welsh half.

Black Ferns start slow, finish strong to smash Wales (New Zealand Herald)

The Black Ferns booked their spot in the Quarter Finals after a solid 12-56 win over Wales in Waitakere. Leading 7-22 at halftime, New Zealand kicked clear ...

Wales spent a considerable period of the second half inside opposition territory, and while they only managed to crack the line once โ€“ through a late lineout drive - it will be concerning for the Black Ferns as they look toward the knockout stages. But again, discipline was the enemy of the Black Ferns. The halftime break didn't seem to trouble the New Zealand side though, with Maiakawanakaulani Roos, Theresa Fitzpatrick and Brunt all scoring within 10 minutes of the restart. Woodman was in the thick of the action moments later, this time in the middle of the park and breaking away from the defence. While the flanker didn't have the speed to beat two cover defenders, she cut back inside and took the contact before flicking a beautiful offload to Sylvia Brunt for the try, soon followed by a second to Woodman. While prop Tanya Kalounivale was ultimately held up over the line, the Black Ferns continued to hold the ball and work away, seeing lock Chelsea Bremner crash over from close range in the 18th minute.
