Australia v England: third men's T20 cricket international abandoned ... (The Guardian)

So that is that. We only had 15.5 overs, but they were very lively. There was time for a commanding innings by Jos Buttler, a sensational spell from Chris ...

With the Dettol Trophy in the bag, Jos Buttler could be giving all the understudies a go, but he prefers just to switch a couple of his seamers – the only department in which England have made changes in this series. The only worry for their supporters is that the Australians will be hell-bent on revenge when the two sides meet again in the World Cup, a fortnight from today. 1st over: England 7-0 (Buttler 2, Hales 0) Starc swings the first ball – down the leg side, so England get going with a wide. Malan pulls again and gets hold of it this time – the firm smack of a back-foot player in top form. He’s gone from a powerhouse in the Australian middle order to a batting coach for England. With a few ones and twos, the batters make 11 off the over and bring up the fifty partnership off 35 balls. “Yesterday he went out to the national art gallery and had a look around. To be fair it may not be the worst thing for Australia, as Finch is out of form. We knew they’d have to come hard in a 12-over game, but to make the ball swing and take early wickets is brilliant bowling.” It’s between him and Sam Curran for England’s man of the series. Woakes has been one of the world’s best one-day bowlers for years, and Curran has shown in the IPL that he can grab a game by the big moments. That would be too much to ask of a game that has been washed out, and as Jesse Linklater said, the Aussies will probably come back strongly when the two teams meet again, two weeks today, in the World Cup.

Australia vs England T20 Game 3: Result, updates, scores and ... (Sporting News AU)

Australia's third and final T20 against England on Friday night has ended in a no result. The reigning T20WC champions lost both their games to their old ...

0 - Cummins bounces back and beats the edge to finish the set. Buttler goes over the top of cover for a boundary, before taking off for a quick single. A misfield at cover allows the England skipper to get off strike with a single. The rain has now returned, the covers are coming back on and we are set for another delay. The game will now be 12 overs per side and will resume at 9.30pm. Aaron Finch has run down the pitch first ball to Chris Woakes and found the fielder out deep on the off-side, dismissed for a golden duck. Woakes is hooping the ball about a metre, fair over from the seamer. Woakes strikes again, as Maxwell looks to go over the top and Ben Stokes takes a simple catch at mid-off. The cut-off time for play is 10.39pm and there needs to be a minimum of five overs to constitute a result. England batted first and scored 2/112 from their reduced 12 overs, which set the Aussies a revised target of 130 runs to win.

Canberra washout denies England a whitewash (ESPNcricinfo.com)

Under pressure Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell fell cheaply, but Australia avoided a clean sweep against England after the T20I series finale in Canberra was ...

Woakes was denied a hat-trick but picked up Maxwell shortly after to cap his stunning opening burst of 3 for 4 off 2 overs. In better signs, Stokes was more fluent with 17 off 10 balls although he had a brain fade on the final ball when he smashed Maxwell down the ground and didn't run thinking he had hit a boundary. He had two wickets before you could blink by removing Finch first ball of the innings then Mitchell Marsh next ball with a sharp delivery caught at short third off a leading edge.

Aussies spared series whitewash but huge World Cup worry ... (Fox Sports)

In the end the rain spoiled the party, but not before Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell — the two biggest concerns ahead of the World Cup — failed again.

It was exactly the state of play when former World Cup-winning captain Michael Clarke went into bat for Smith and said the star batter was a must for the Australian side despite recently falling down the pecking order. Glenn Maxwell, who opened the batting in the absence of David Warner (whiplash), departed for eight, as the all-rounder mistimed a slower ball to mid-off to continue his struggles. The match was perfectly set up for him to seize the moment and show that he was the man for a crisis. Unfortunately for Smith, the right-hander did not get the chance to prove his worth as the rain denied him the chance for some precious time in the middle. Australia was 3-30 before the rain returned, ultimately forcing the umpires to abandon the game with Steve Smith (7) and Marcus Stoinis (8) the not out batters. In the end the rain spoiled the party, but not before Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell — the two biggest concerns ahead of the World Cup — failed again.

England vs Australia In-depth Match Preview — Transcontinental ... (Transcontinental Times)

AUSTRALIA: The final game of Australia vs England is to be held today and as far as the series is concerned, the game is a dead game.

Starc will look to fine-tune his approach and try to stick to his strengths and give some early blows to the English team. In terms of batting, Liam Livingstone must be close to returning to full health following his ankle injury. Jos Butler:- Butler will be hungry for runs in today’s game as he is in very good form. However, there is always room for learning and improving in cricket, Australia will be looking to do the same, learn and apply. If Australia’s sloppy hands haven’t dropped three catches in the middle of Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali’s important 92-run stand for the fifth wicket, who knows where that momentum would be headed now? Although momentum and confidence are somewhat related, momentum is largely meaningless in professional sports if you allow yourself to live by it.
