San Francisco 49ers Among Teams Interested In Carolina Panthers ... (Forbes)

The Carolina Panthers are reportedly entertaining trade offers for All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey with the San Francisco 49ers showing interest.

This would have the team without a first-round selection for three consecutive drafts. They have dealt with a plethora of injuries at the running back position and are void of that dual-threat out of the backfield. Despite how dynamic he has been since joining the NFL, injuries have had a role in McCaffrey’s career. The Denver Broncos make less sense in that they’ve committed a record-breaking contract to newly-acquired quarterback Russell Wilson. He missed a combined 23 games in 2020 and 2021. It ranks dead last in the NFL in rushing and has youngster Cam Akers on the trade block. Prior to injury-plagued 2020 and 2021 seasons, McCaffrey was the single-most electric running back in the NFL. But much like San Francisco, these Rams are without their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. They have acquired the likes of Matthew Stafford and Jalen Ramsey through that avenue. They are reportedly joined by two AFC squads and the division-rival Los Angeles Rams in pursuit of McCaffrey. From an on-field perspective, acquiring someone of McCaffrey’s skill-set would be a major boon for the 49ers. Is the NBA Really Rigged for Richest Teams? The Numbers May ... (Bleacher Report)

Another Golden State Warriors winning anothe title is disheartening, at least to teams who look at the Warriors' $170.3 million tax bill for the 2021-22 ...

The Warriors have as many titles as they have because of Steph Curry. The Oklahoma City Thunder spent $61.6 million in taxes for 2018-19, only to lose in the first round to the Portland Trail Blazers, who advanced to the Western Conference Finals with a $15 million tax bill. The teams with historic greats take home the rings. They may be more likely to be a buyer at the trade deadline. The last two teams to advance but lose in the Finals were under the tax. The final four in 2021 paid out a combined $5.9 million in taxes, with the Los Angeles Clippers footing $5.2 million and the Atlanta Hawks under completely. The Cavaliers (with LeBron James) that lost to the Warriors in 2017-18 made a heavy investment in defeat. The Celtics were very competitive in June despite the $170.3 million extra the Warriors were spending on tax. The Los Angeles Lakers are in a top media market and always ready to spend in free agency, but even they were under the tax in their championship run (2019-20). A primary goal of the CBA is to give every team the opportunity to win, regardless of market size. Recency bias may scream the Warriors are buying titles—that the system is broken. That gap is a widespread concern as the NBA and National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) have already begun negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

The Panthers claim they're not in a fire sale, but they are willing to listen to offers.

That’s not to say they couldn’t get a deal done without a first round pick, but it handicaps them right out of the gate. Christian McCaffrey trade rumors heating up with 4 teams ... (ClutchPoints)

The Carolina Panthers are expected to press forward with a rebuild and potentially blow up the roster ahead of the 2022 NFL trade deadline.

Melvin Gordon’s fumbling issues won’t have the team feeling confident, so a trade for McCaffrey could bring some much-needed confidence back to the offense in Denver. Running back is one of the areas where the Bills lack a true superstar and McCaffrey would instantly change that. The Rams’ young running back is expected to be traded in the near future, and could potentially fit in nicely with the Panthers’ rebuilding timeline.
