Apple Reveals iPad Pro 2022: Faster, With Striking Upgrades But 2 ... (Forbes)

The new iPad Pro comes in two sizes, with 11-inch and 12.9-inch displays, as now.

The new iPad Pro goes on sale on Wednesday, October 26, with pre-orders open now. When you hover your Apple Pencil above the iPad Pro, it will be detected, and show a preview of where your stylus is going to touch the screen. There’s a new feature coming to the existing second-generation Apple Pencil. Most importantly, the processor has been updated from the already blazing-fast M1 chip to the new M2. This means that most of us can have a cool experience, but the most demanding users will really benefit, so they can work with big photo libraries or manipulate 3D objects onscreen. Many previous rumors suggested that the 11-inch model iPad Pro would be upgraded to have the miniLED backlighting, called Liquid Retina XDR introduced on the iPad Pro 12.9-inch.

So users can arrange the ideal workspace and work with up to four apps on the iPad and up to four apps on the external display. Stage Manager is an entirely new multitasking experience that automatically organises apps and windows, making it quick and easy to switch between tasks. In addition, Wi-Fi + Cellular models with 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave) now support more 5G networks worldwide. Third-party apps can also use this feature to enable new marking and drawing experiences. Apple Pencil is now detected up to 12mm above the display, allowing users to see a preview of their mark before they make it. Good luck figuring out which iPad to buy now (Macworld)

iPad (10th generation, 256GB): $599; iPad Air (64GB): $599; iPad mini (256GB): $649; iPad Air (256GB): $749); iPad Pro (11-inch, 128GB): ...

If you want one in the summer, there will probably be an iPad Air update right around the corner. And what about the iPad mini? And then there’s the issue of updating. And who’s the iPad Air for now? But buying an iPad is also more confusing than ever. The new 10th-generation iPad is a complete redesign that brings it in line with the Air and mini, and the new iPad Pro is the fastest tablet ever made, with an M2 processor and Wi-Fi 6E.

iPad line-up: Something for everyone, or a confusing mess? (9to5Mac)

iPad 9: $329 · iPad 10: $449 · iPad mini: $499 · iPad Air: $599 · 11-inch iPad Pro: $799 · 12.9-inch iPad Pro: $1,099.

There’s no equivalent of the iPhone 14 Plus in the iPad line-up, so if all you want is a bigger screen, you’re going to have to pay for all the Pro features to get it. From a consumer perspective, and iPad 10 Plus would be a great option, but the fact is that enough people are willing to pay the Pro premium for the size, so that’s all money in Apple’s pocket. Compact size is the only benefit, but if you want a small iPad, you want a small iPad. Is is worth almost twice as much as the iPad 9 we were looking at in the first place? If I were going to remove one model from the line-up, this would be it. If you need one or more Pro features and/or want a large screen (and can afford it!), buy the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. If you just want an iPad for everyday needs, are happy with a small screen, and don’t have a specific need for any of the Pro features, buy the base model (but with more storage). But if you’re going to spend $n more, then for just $n+ you could move up to the next model and … The display is better (P3 rather than sRGB), and you also get anti-reflective coating, which is a small thing that can make a big difference. It’s just a pretty big price jump for the prettier screen and some spec improvements that probably don’t much matter to an entry-level iPad buyer. With the latest changes, what is Apple’s iPad line-up now? You start by looking at the base model of something, then tell yourself that for just $n more, you could have features X, Y, and Z.

But zoom out to the iPad line as a whole, and it’s kind of a mess. From the old ninth-generation iPad all the way up to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, there’s an iPad for everyone—if you can figure out which ones have which features and whether those features are worth the extra price. It’s a very weird situation to be in when the low-end iPad is showing the way to a new front-facing camera position and an embracing of function keys, but the high-end iPad Pro is stuck in the past. All these other apps are great, yes, but Apple has had an opportunity to take the lead in defining what the pro app experience should be on one of its platforms and has never seized it. This feature is a cousin to the hover state apps can adapt to when the pointer from an external trackpad is hovering over interface elements, but it’s not quite the same feature, and developers will need to use a new API to address it. But the result is that the leading iPad is missing innovations that the cheap iPad offers. Just as with the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, the move from M1 to M2 will offer some nice but modest speed boosts for the iPad Pro. [Pencil-to-USB accessory](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MQLU3AM/A/usb-c-to-apple-pencil-adapter), which will also now be included in the box with future Apple Pencils. While the iPad is basically a complete hardware redesign, the new M2 iPad Pro models are very subtly upgraded versions of last year’s hardware. The new 10th-generation iPad is a nice update, adding Touch ID (on the wake/sleep button) and an A14 processor, kicking the home button to the curb at last. (The Magic Keyboard Folio lacks the key backlighting of the Magic Keyboard.) The Magic Keyboard Folio also has a row of function keys that the Magic Keyboard sorely lacks.

iPad Pro 2022 vs iPad Air 2022: What are the biggest differences? (TrustedReviews)

Apple recently unveiled this year's update to its high-end tablet line with the iPad Pro 2022. But, how does it compare to the iPad Air 2022?

The iPad Pro takes advantage of a second rear camera. That means the iPad Air is $200 / £330 cheaper if you’re looking at the Wi-Fi only models, or $250 / £360 less for the Wi-Fi + Cellular models of the same size. This is significantly more than the 256GB available on the iPad Air. The M1 is the same processor that powers the iPad Air 2022. The iPad Air is available in five colours that includes a handful of eye-catching pastel shades: Space Grey, Starlight, Pink, Purple and Blue. Apple chose a bad year to launch expensive iPads that aren't ... (AppleInsider)

Apple's new iPad, iPad Pro, and Apple TV updates are less than stellar, yet the company is charging us as if they are.

That camera move is not yet any particular benefit, and it's handicapping the iPad to have it solely able to use an Apple Pencil that should have been discontinued by now. And it also isn't sufficiently great enough that it should harm sales of the iPad Air. It definitely has the data to know when a refresh is needed to keep sales up, but this time that seems to be all these releases can do. The new iPad is physically just a few fractions of an inch taller and wider than the 9th generation model, but the bezels are thin enough that the screen has gone from 10.2 inches to 10.9 inches. Still, it is better than the A13 Bionic in the previous 9th generation iPad — but the question is whether it's worth the price increase. However, Apple now has to further complicate the Apple Pencil by creating an adapter to let users charge it on the new iPad. You might want the new features of the 10th generation model, but not enough that you'll sell off the old one and upgrade. Ultimately, users have still got to make the mark they want in the app that they want it to. It is faster, certainly, and you will surely notice that over the long term if you continually stretch the iPad Pro to its limits. It's very cleverly done, and it involves the iPad Pro recognizing the angle of the Pencil as well as its proximity. But then you can say that about the new hover mode for Apple Pencil on the iPad Pro. It would have been cut because the new iPad and [iPad Pro](https://appleinsider.com/inside/ipad-pro) are ultimately not significant.

The new iPad requires a $9 dongle if you want to use the Apple Pencil (CNBC)

But since Apple made the move from a Lightning port to USB-C, you can't just stick the Apple Pencil into the iPad's charging port to juice it up. (That itself ...

You'll plug the Apple Pencil into that dongle, and then plug the dongle into the iPad. That's the only way to pair the Pencil with the new iPad, too. But there's one thing that's just a little silly about it: The $99 optional Apple Pencil requires a dongle to charge and pair with the new iPad. Still, it meant anyone who didn't already have a $19 charger brick had to buy one, and it likely helped spur people to buy $19 EarPods or $129 AirPods. That's not a big deal in itself, as much as I'd like to see added support for the more comfortable Apple Pencil 2, which charges on the side of those aforementioned iPads. (That itself was always a little weird, but it worked.) Instead, you have to buy one of

The A15 Bionic chip gives the Apple TV 4K "faster performance and more fluid gameplay," according to Apple. The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, codenamed J617 and J620, will be the first update to the higher-end iPad since April 2021, where both models gained the M1 chip and a new 12.-9-inch mini-LED display. Apple plans to announce new iPad Pro models with the M2 chip this Tuesday, October 18, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The new MacBook Pro models will be available with M2 Pro and M2 Max chip... Apple will announce new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models in "a matter of days," respected Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman said today in his latest Power On newsletter. Following its debut, Apple has now removed the 3.5mm connector from all of the latest-generation iPad models in its lineup. When Apple stops selling the previous-generation iPad, it will be the death knell for the headphones connector on the company's tablets, and among Apple's hardware it will be only Macs that include the jack.

Comparison: New 10.9-inch iPad vs. iPad Air (AppleInsider)

The redesigned entry-level iPad is closer to the iPad Air than ever. Here's how they compare. Apple released two 10.9-inch iPads in 2022 with very different ...

Apple still sells the 10.2-inch iPad at $329, then the new 10.9-inch iPad is $449. There are too many limitations and drawbacks to using the 10.9-inch iPad for art, though it is possible. The iPad Air 5 uses the Apple Pencil 2 thanks to a dedicated magnetic charging pad on one side of the tablet. Apple introduced a new keyboard for the 10.9-inch iPad with an integrated trackpad called the Magic Keyboard Folio. Both the iPad Air and the 10.9-inch iPad offer about 10 hours of battery life during regular use. It was later introduced in [iPad Pro](https://appleinsider.com/inside/ipad-pro) and trickled down to the iPad Air in 2022. Spec-wise, this front-facing camera is identical to the iPad Air, and both include support for Center Stage. There is very little to differentiate the 10.9-inch iPad and iPad Air 5 at a glance besides color. The iPad's display panel is identical to the iPad Air 5, with a couple of important exceptions. A laminated display, like the one found in the iPad Air 5, enables content to appear closer to the surface of the display glass. The iPad Air 5 has P3 and a laminated display, both features which target artists directly. iPad Air 5
