Live goal and score updates from Goodison Park as Everton take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
I’d stick with the same three in central midfield and be looking for Amadou Onana to break into the box to support Calvert-Lewin. I’d start with him on the left and Anthony Gordon on the right and ask them to target the byline as much as the box. Two goals down and seemingly headed towards a chilling final day relegation battle, Everton somehow turned it around to win 3-2 and ensure their top-flight status remained intact. I would start Dwight McNeil as a result, and ask him to look to cross into the box where possible. After a solid start, the Blues have slumped down the table in recent weeks and find themselves nervously looking over their shoulder. Some reassurance can be taken from the players recognising this amongst themselves though.

Blues need to get back on track with four winnable games before the World Cup.
The winner, courtesy of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s diving header five minutes from the end, led to utter pandemonium at Goodison Park with two separate pitch invasions from delirious fans. The Eagles have had a mixed bag of results to start the season, and sit just three points ahead of the Blues. [Everton](https://royalbluemersey.sbnation.com) take on Crystal Palace with just four games left to go before the early winter break for the World Cup. The last time the Blues played Palace was a very momentous occasion, with the home side rallying from a two-goal deficit at the break to roar back with three goals in the second stanza to snatch three points and secure Premier League survival. The Blues have mustered two shots on goal in that trio of games, and their utter inability to mount concerted pressure on the opponent’s goal will have given Frank Lampard plenty to ponder before this next sequence of games - Palace, Fulham, [Leicester City](https://fosseposse.sbnation.com) and then AFC Bournemouth twice in five days, first in the League Cup and then the league. Everton vs Crystal Palace live: The Toffees will try to avoid a four-game losing skid, while the Eagles try to go four games unbeaten, on Saturday.
I expect Chelsea to have plenty of the ball but they have to be patient and alert defensively to stop United’s quality on the break. This is going to be a tight, tense clash and there will be contrasting styles of play on show. They are always good value for a shock and will take the game to City with their possession-based style and bravery on the ball. Given his incredible form, and run of five-straight shutouts, Kepa will start in goal again and Edouard Mendy will have to wait to start after his recent comeback from injury. In midfield Scott McTominay could come in to give Fred a rest, while the front four has a great balance about it so expect that to stay the same. Phil Foden is also in superb form in attack and Kevin de Bruyne continues to pull all the strings and Rodri is a machine in midfield. City have won nine of their 10 meetings against Brighton and they have won each of their last eight home league meetings against the Seagulls by an aggregate score of 21-2. Forest had Kouyate and Yates sat in front of their defense and they snapped into challenges, won the ball back so many times and set the tone for a huge win. They haven’t scored in their last three games under the Italian coach and although they are dominating possession and creating chances, that finishing touch is just missing once again. This victory will give Forest huge belief and now they have become tough to beat, the onus is now on their attacking talents to deliver when it matters most. Ryan Yates (who could have scored a second late on) in midfield has summed up how tough they have become to beat and it was always going to take time for Cooper to find a winning formula with a whole new squad. Salah struggling in central role: The Egyptian King is missing the right wing as Salah started up top again in Liverpool’s 4-4-2 and it just isn’t working.

Coming out of a tough run of games the Blues need to get it done on home turf.
Alex Iwobi remains Everton’s only player capable of constructing attacks and the experiment of pushing him further forward and to the right side of midfield has had detrimental effects. Encouragingly for Everton, today’s opponents are more prone to losing the ball than anyone else, being bottom in terms of bad touches and being dispossessed. Everton’s Expected Goals (xG) was only a combined 1.2 across the three games and with such a low level of offensive production it is tough to generate much in the way of results, unless the defence is playing out of this world. Shifting Iwobi to the left and bringing in the marginalized Abdoulaye Doucoure would add box-to-box energy and add a player who will attack the penalty area. Under Vieira, the Eagles have undergone a revolution in terms of the way they play the game, a far removal from Hodgson’s defensive, old-school approach. Right now Everton have few players who will get into the box and cause trouble for the opposition defence. Last summer’s major recruit, Doucoure has come in and added some solidity to Palace’s midfield, as evidenced by a combined 5.28 tackles and interceptions won per 90 minutes. That the points haul has been...well, non-existent is not all that surprising, considering [Manchester United](https://thebusbybabe.sbnation.com) at home is probably a draw on paper, a visit to [Tottenham Hotspur](https://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnation.com) has been traditionally a wasteland for the Blues and [Newcastle United](https://cominghomenewcastle.sbnation.com) are a much-improved outfit these days. For his inaugural campaign, Vieira was given £77m in new recruits, including a reconstructed central defence, new striking options, the exciting prospect Michael Olise and on-loan Chelsea talent Conor Gallagher, whilst losing only a raft of hitherto dependable types - all over the age of 30. The boss wants his team to play in a balanced fashion, although they are actually slightly losing the possession battle this season (44.6%) and not generating high xG totals (10.2, ranking 18th). The veteran had guided Palace to back-to-back 14th-placed finishes, which was a decent accomplishment considering the team’s lack of financial power, but the football was a tough watch, pragmatism dominating all else. [Everton](https://royalbluemersey.sbnation.com) garner (not James!) zero points, the team make a welcome return to Goodison Park this afternoon.

[Anthony Gordon](https://www.espn.com.au/football/player/_/id/268782/Anthony-Gordon) made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute when he tapped in the rebound from [Vitaly Mykolenko](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/player/_/id/262594/vitalii-mykolenko)'s saved shot, but the goal was disallowed for offside. "I think we were second best in every department of the game," Palace manager Patrick Vieira told the BBC. The way we recovered wasn't aggressive enough. It was a bad team performance. It's been a long time coming but great to get the result.
