Avatar: The Way Of Water Reviews - Film Critics Can't Agree On ... (HuffPost UK)

The blockbuster has been hailed as "dazzling" and "exceptional"... and blasted as a "damp squib" and a "trillion-dollar screensaver".

“The stage is set for a rip-roaring adventure, a space opera sprinkled with debates on the ethics of colonialism and assimilation. They’re absolutely right, but then it doesn’t have much of a middle either.” Cameron, in The Way Of Water, remains a fleet and exacting classical popcorn storyteller, but oh, the story he’s telling! “It’s like watching a tidal wave start miles in the distance as a tiny bump in the ocean. “The Way of Water melts away any skepticism that it might be too late or too long in its return to Pandora. Because the story’s a seen-it, been-there snore.” “Watching The Way of Water, one rolls their eyes only to realise they’re welling with tears. “In terms of narrative sophistication and even more so dialogue, this $350 million sequel is almost as basic as its predecessor, even feeble at times. “The effects work is unbelievable; I still haven’t entirely wrapped my head around the fact that none of this stuff actually exists, that it’s all a meticulously rendered digital environment. The thing the reviews can’t seem to agree on is whether or not that matters. “At 192 minutes, the runtime is almost certainly too long. [James Cameron](https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/news/james-cameron/)’s long-awaited sequel has been 13 years in the making, during which time it’s been hit with repeated delays to both its production and release schedule.

But like I said, don't let that stop you from watching The Way Of Water. Don't be surprised if years after he has made the fifth and final Avatar movie, he decides to make an actual documentary about the wildlife of Pandora, narrated by David Attenborough. His world building is impeccable – if you thought the jungles of Pandora was cool, wait till you see its oceans. Make no mistake about it, The Way Of Water isn't just a movie – it's a spectacle, and boy does Cameron excel at creating those. Faced with this new threat, Jake and his family flee their native jungles and seek refuge with the Metkayina water tribe. Let’s get this out of the way first.

'Avatar': What to Know Before 'The Way of Water' (Collider.com)

Avatar: The Way of Water is almost upon us, and we're finally heading back to Pandora to see what new adventures James Cameron has conjured for the sequel.

On the RDA side of things, Colonel Quaritch is killed in action during the final duel against Jake and the Na’vi, but he’ll come back to Avatar: The Way of Water as a Recombinant. So, while Jake wins a battle in Avatar that allows Pandora to remain in peace for many years, humanity is a plague, and Quaritch will soon be back to restart the war. Grace, in her Avatar body, to access the living database of Eywa, uploading a copy of herself and being granted eternal life in Pandora. [Michelle Rodriguez](https://collider.com/tag/michelle-rodriguez/)), the pilot who betrayed Colonel Quaritch in the final battle, didn't even get a chance to become part of Pandora. Nature is alive in Pandora and comes to the rescue of Toruk Makto and the Na’vi. After months among the Na’vi, Jake is convinced that the native people of Pandora are right to be hostile to humans and that Earthlings should just leave the moon. Since the superconductor properties of Pandora's soil rubbed off its flora and fauna, the Na'vi evolved in a way that allowed them to access information stored in animals and plants. And even more curious is that the Na'vi, as a species, evolved a unique braid they use to commune with Eywa and Pandora's fauna. As a final rite of passage before being considered part of the tribe, every Na’vi needs to tame their own ikran, a dangerous flying creature that becomes the warrior’s mount. In short, the entire moon of Pandora works like a supercomputer, probably due to the natural presence of unobtanium as a superconductor. As the weeks pass, Jake starts to understand the Na’vi and their symbiotic connection to nature.
