Manchester United v Burnley: Carabao Cup fourth round – live (The Guardian)

Clockwatch: Join Scott Murray for updates from the League Cup fourth-round tie at Old Trafford.

Burnley are looking to win their first major trophy since they became champions of England in 1960. [Manchester United](https://www.theguardian.com/football/manchester-united) are in their famous red shirts, forcing Burnley out of their trademark claret and into second-choice sky blue. A reminder that they’ve already played two games since the post-World Cup restart, while United are going into tonight’s match cold. Garnacho nearly picking up where he left off at Fulham just before the break. 9 min: A one-on-one chance for Garnacho at Old Trafford … 12 min: Of course this MBM is more of a Clockwatch now, which inevitably means slightly reduced coverage of the United-Burnley game. He slightly miscontrols as he reaches the edge of the 19 min: Garnacho is clipped over as he makes his way down the left. The ball’s rolled infield for Brownhill, who tries to round Casemiro in order to enter the box. The ball ricochets off Rashford and loops back over the keeper’s head and towards the unguarded net. He takes his eye off a backpass and allows the ball to trundle under his foot and towards the open goal. “I’m struggling to think of a club that’s changed an entrenched style so radically from one season to the next.”

In a side featuring five of our World Cup players, Ten Hag has opted to deploy Brazil midfielder Casemiro alongside Victor Lindelof at the heart of our defence this evening. ''Rapha [Raphael Varane] and Licha [Lisandro Martinez] were involved in the World Cup final," added the boss. Also, last week, Rhys Bennett played against Everton [behind closed doors] and he did really well, so we have options there, but tonight Casemiro will play there.''

Man City predicted lineup vs Liverpool - Carabao Cup (90min)

Manchester City will return to action with a match against Liverpool in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. He may not admit it but Pep Guardiola would ...

With Rodri only just returning to training, the 32-year-old will most likely slot in as his side's holding midfielder. He'll get another chance to show what he can do with Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish unavailable. CM: Kevin de Bruyne - Belgium's disastrous World Cup was good news for Man City with De Bruyne able to join their training camp in Spain and make himself available for the Liverpool game. GK: Stefan Ortega - 30-year-old Ortega was excellent in the previous round of the cup against Chelsea and is all but certain to start again with Ederson yet to return to full training. CB: Aymeric Laporte - Laporte should be fairly fresh having been knocked out of the World Cup with Spain in the round of 16, and given the lack of alternatives, might well be thrown straight back into the action by Guardiola. Manchester City will return to action with a match against Liverpool in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Manchester United cruise into Carabao Cup quarterfinals (World Soccer Talk)

Manchester United advanced to the Carabao Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday thanks to goals from Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford.

Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion did not have the same luck as United on Wednesday. Defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka made a fantastic play to keep the ball on the pitch and squared it to an open Eriksen. Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, and Casemiro were all fit enough to make the starting XI. However, Wednesday’s match saw much of their World Cup contingent back with the team. Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford supplied the goals for Erik ten Hag’s side. Manchester United progress to Carabao Cup quarter-final as ... (Planet Sport)

Marcus Rashford scored a superb solo effort as Manchester United moved into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford.

But there were five back from Qatar - Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Eriksen, Casemiro, being utilised as a central defender, and Tyrell Malacia - included in a strong starting XI as Ten Hag made four changes from the 2-1 Premier League win at Fulham on November 13. The advantage was then doubled by another 12 minutes into the second half when Rashford, scorer of three goals for England during the World Cup, went on a run taking the ball from his own half to the visitors' box and drilled it into the net. Returning to action after the World Cup - and for their first match since Cristiano Ronaldo's departure - Erik ten Hag's men took the lead in the 27th minute through a close-range finish from Christian Eriksen, one of the various players on show that had been at the tournament in Qatar.
